SO WE'RE GOING TO START WITH A GROUP OF SUPPORTERS THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF THE DISTRICT IN MANY WAYS, WE'D LIKE TO THANK THE MEMBERS OF THE FRENSHIP COMMUNITY'S POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN PUBLICIZING THE NOVEMBER 2020 BOND ELECTION FOR FRENSHIP ISD.

SO IF YOU WERE ON A FRENSHIP POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE, IF YOU WILL JOIN ME AT THE PODIUM, THE COMMITTEE LED A CAMPAIGN THAT HELPED PASS THE TWO HUNDRED NINETY NINE POINT SEVEN DOLLARS MILLION BOND, AND THERE ARE FOUR OF THEM HERE REPRESENTING US TONIGHT.

SINCE THEN EVIE MAE'S OWNER ARNIS ROBBINS HAS SERVED AS A MENTOR AND A COACH TO THE TEAM.

AND TONIGHT, WE CTE CO-ORDINATOR, AMY BAKER.

AND WE ALSO HAVE KEITH PATRICK HERE TO HELP US SAY A FEW THINGS.

AND FRENSHIP STARTED THEIR BARBECUE TEAM THROUGH THE CULINARY PROGRAM, WHICH AMY SUPPORTS IN CTE, AND THEY COMPETE IN HIGH SCHOOL BARBECUE COMPETITIONS. SO THAT'S ALWAYS MY FIRST QUESTION.

THEY DON'T COMPETE IN THE CHAMBER BARBECUE THAT [INAUDIBLE] SUCH A GOOD TIME AT.

SO. [INAUDIBLE] EVIE MAE [INAUDIBLE] MENTORING.

AND THEY LOANED US A SMOKER IN THAT FIRST YEAR AND HAVE HAD A GREAT INTEGRATION WITH THAT PROGRAM. AND ALSO IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, ARNIS STEPPED UP AND BUILT US AT FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, BUILT A SMOKER FOR THAT PROGRAM TO USE, AND HE DONATED ALL OF HIS LABOR FOR THAT. AND AMY'S PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER FUNDS FOR MATERIALS IN THE MIDDLE OF RUNNING A RESTAURANT THROUGH THIS CRAZY TIME.

HE DID THAT FOR OUR PROGRAM.

AND IT'S IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING.

I'M SAD THAT ROBERT LEFT BECAUSE I THINK HE PAID FULL PRICE FOR HIS.

SO IT'S BEEN A GREAT TESTAMENT TO WHAT HE FEELS ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY TO WHAT THEY DO FOR FRENSHIP ISD IT'S A REALLY AMAZING TOOL THAT THAT PROGRAM WOULD HAVE.

AND WE'RE GLAD TO BE ABLE TO SAY THANK YOU.

WE'VE BEEN TRYING THROUGH THE FALL TO GET HIM HERE.

AND SO I JUST THINK JOB OPPORTUNITIES, YOU'VE GOT SOME GROWTH COMING DOWN YOUR WAY, JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS. BUT THE TRAINING THAT THEY WOULDN'T GET ANYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE OF THIS PARTNERSHIP, VERY APPRECIATIVE.

NATIONAL SPANISH SPELLING BEE COMPETITION AFTER WINNING THE LUBBOCK SPANISH SPELLING BEE CHAMPIONSHIP IN NOVEMBER.

SARAH IS THIRD IN FRENSHIP'S HISTORY TO ADVANCE TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION, AND HER WIN ALSO MARKS THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THAT WILLOW BEND HAS HAD A STUDENT WHO WILL GO TO NATIONALS. SO OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, SARAH IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO PRACTICE AND STUDY FOR THE NATIONAL SPELLING BEE, AND THAT'S GOING TO BE IN JULY OF NEXT YEAR IN DENVER. AND TONIGHT, I WANT TO WELCOME AND JENNIFER PIERCE, WHOSE PRINCIPAL, WE HAVE [INAUDIBLE] AND HER TEACHER, MR. NUNEZ. AND THEN I THINK HER MOM IS JOINING US AS WELL.

MR. NUNEZ HAS PRACTICED WITH HER AND SOME OTHER STUDENTS FOR MULTIPLE WEEKS AND THEY HAVE JUST DONE A FANTASTIC JOB AND THEY WON.

SO THAT'S THE BEST THING EVER.

THIS YEAR'S STATE COMPETITOR IS A FRESHMAN AT FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL AND SHE WON DISTRICT 26A CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP.

SO TONIGHT WE RECOGNIZED [INAUDIBLE] ON HER QUALIFICATION TO THE STATE CROSS-COUNTRY MEET BACK IN NOVEMBER. AND TONIGHT, WE HAVE RICHARD PASCAL, HEAD CROSS-COUNTRY COACH, AND AMANDA KIRKPATRICK HERE TO SAY A FEW THINGS ABOUT [INAUDIBLE].

THAT'S A BIG ONE, ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW IN A PANDEMIC.

SO I'VE BEEN ABLE TO WORK WITH FAMILIES, GET THEM SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES, COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS THAT MAYBE WE'LL MEET LOTS OF DIFFERENT NEEDS.

SO THAT'S BEEN GOOD.

AND THEN SUPPORT OTHER STAFF.

SO I'VE BEEN ABLE TO WORK WITH THE COUNSELORS.

WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO JUST HELP THE OTHER TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO IT'S BEEN AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY.

AND VIRTUAL COUNSELING WAS INTERESTING IN THE SPRING.

WE FIGURED IT OUT AS WE WENT ALONG, BUT IT WORKED WELL.

OUR COUNSELORS WORKED VERY HARD EVEN FROM HOME.

SOME OF THEM EVEN WENT AND DID WELLNESS CHECKS AT HOME IF WE WERE WORRIED ABOUT KIDS.

AND SO THEY HONESTLY PUT KIDS FIRST.

SOME THINGS WE'VE DONE AND PUT IN PLACE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS IS OUR COUNSELORS HAVE DONE VIRTUAL NEWSLETTERS FOR ALL OF OUR REMOTE LEARNERS SO THAT THEY'RE NOT MISSING OUT ON ANYTHING. WE HAVE ELEMENTARY COUNSELORS HAVE DONE GUIDANCE LESSONS ON TEAMS, SO THEY WORK WITH THE TEACHER, LET THE KIDS SEE THEIR FACE, DO THE SAME LESSONS THAT THE KIDS ARE GETTING IN OUR SCHOOL BUILDING AND THEN DIGITAL REFERRAL FORMS.

AND THE BIGGEST THING FOR US WAS TO MAKE SURE PARENTS AND STUDENTS COULD CONTACT A COUNSELOR VERY EASILY.

AND SO ON THE WEBSITE, ON EVERY CAMPUS, ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE, UNDER THE STUDENT AND THE PARENT TABS, IT'S CONTACT A COUNSELOR AND THEY CAN FILL OUT A FORM.

SO THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT OF DIGGING THAT THEY HAVE TO DO.

WE JUST WANTED TO MAKE IT VERY EASY FOR THEM TO GET IN CONTACT WITH US.

AND SO THIS IS A MODEL OF WHAT FRENSHIP HAS TAKEN FROM IT IS THAT WE ARE DOING A DATA DRIVEN PROGRAM, SO WE HAVE A NEW ONLINE.

IT'S CALLED [INAUDIBLE] IT HAS ZERO STUDENT INFORMATION IN IT, BUT OUR COUNSELORS ARE PUTTING IN EVERYTHING THEY'RE DOING SO THAT WE CAN SEE WHERE THE NEEDS ARE DISTRICT WIDE AND BE PREVENTATIVE. SO IF ANXIETY IS THE ISSUE, WE CAN FIGURE THAT OUT AND START WORKING ON IT AHEAD OF TIME INSTEAD OF BEING REACTIVE.

SO THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO US RIGHT NOW.

SO THE FIRST THING WE'VE DONE IS AT OUR SCHOOLS, WE DID A PROGRAM CALLED HANNAH FOR HOPE.

IT'S A SUICIDE AWARENESS PROGRAM.

WE DID THAT LAST YEAR.

IT WAS VERY POWERFUL.

IT WORKED VERY WELL. WE TARGETED SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS, SO WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH THEM, COORDINATE A VIRTUAL OPTION WHERE WE WERE STILL ABLE TO DO THAT FOR OUR SEVENTH GRADERS. WE DID THAT ACTUALLY LAST WEEK AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

WE ALSO DO A SUICIDE AWARENESS PROGRAM CALLED TO SAVE A LIFE THAT'S ALREADY HAPPENED.

AND THAT'S BEEN REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

AND WE'VE DEVELOPED IT BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING A LOT OF ANXIETY.

WE HAVE DEVELOPED SOME MINI WORKSHOPS ON ANXIETY AND THOSE ARE GOING TO BE ROLLING OUT IN THE SPRING FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS.

THAT'LL BE A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM.

WE ALSO AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, THEY'RE DOING SOME VIDEOS EACH MONTH, SOME MENTAL HEALTH VIDEO. SO THEY'RE GOING TO TARGET JUST DIFFERENT TOPICS.

WHATEVER THEY'RE SEEING, THEY'LL TARGET STUDENTS AND BE ABLE TO SHOW THOSE.

ELEMENTARY ARE GOING INTO CLASSROOMS. THEY'RE DOING GUIDANCE COUNSELING.

SO REALLY AT ALL LEVELS.

AND WE'VE HAD SOME SUCCESSES IN JUST ADDRESSING THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS IN THE DISTRICT.

AS FAR AS THE STUDENT THREAT ASSESSMENTS, I GET TO BE PART OF THAT TEAM.

AND SO AS WE IDENTIFY STUDENTS THAT MAY NEED SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORT THAT WE WANT TO KIND OF WATCH, THAT'S BEEN A REALLY NEAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME.

I'M GETTING TO FOLLOW UP NOT ONLY WITH A STUDENT THAT WE KIND OF WATCH AND SEE, BUT I ALSO GET TO FOLLOW UP WITH THEIR FAMILY AND MAYBE THEY NEED SOME OUTSIDE SUPPORT.

MAYBE THEY NEED SOME ADDITIONAL THINGS THAT WE CAN CONNECT THEM WITH AND HELP.

AND I ALSO GET TO WORK WITH THE CAMPUS SO THE COMMUNICATION ISN'T DROPPED.

I CAN HELP WITH THE TRANSITION IF A STUDENT IS MOVING FROM CAMPUS TO CAMPUS.

SO THOSE HAVE BEEN REALLY SUCCESSFUL AND [INAUDIBLE] OPPORTUNITIES.

TRAUMA INFORMED CARE TRAINING WAS NEW THIS YEAR FOR OUR TEACHERS AND IT WAS PERFECT TIMING. TEA WAS REQUIRING IT.

BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, EVERY PERSON HAS EXPERIENCED SOME TYPE OF TRAUMA BECAUSE OF THIS. AND SO THAT WAS TRAINING THAT WE DID FOR TEACHERS.

I MEAN, FROM OUR TEACHERS, EVERYBODY ACROSS THE DISTRICT HAD THIS TRAINING.

SO IT'S BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL.

ONE THING THAT WE ARE REALLY FOCUSING ON IS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF AS WELL. WE HAVE TODAY, AS I SAID, A SERIES OF VIDEOS CALLED PROJECT RESTORE.

AND SO WE'VE SENT THOSE OUT TO OUR TEACHERS OUR COUNSELORS ARE SENDING EMAILS OUT TO TEACHERS JUST WITH ENCOURAGEMENT AND SELF CARE TIPS.

SO WITH THE TRAUMA INFORMED CARE, IT'S NOT ONLY TO HELP THEM BE AWARE OF OUR STUDENTS, BUT ALSO OUR TEACHERS, BECAUSE STAFF IS GOING THROUGH THIS PANDEMIC AS WELL.

AND SO JUST MAKING SURE EVERYBODY'S TAKING CARE OF THEMSELVES.

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS.

THIS ONE WE ARE I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT.

WE'VE GOT THE TAPR REPORT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT STANDS FOR, BUT I GOT THE TAPR REPORT AND FOR TSI, WHICH IS TO SAY KIDS ARE COLLEGE READY IN 17-18, WE HAD ACTUALLY 18-19 WE HAD NINETY THREE POINT TWO PERCENT OF THAT GRADUATING CLASS IS COLLEGE READY IN THE ENGLISH AREA. AND THAT WAS UP THIRTY POINT FOUR PERCENT FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

AND THEN WITH MATH, IT WAS SEVENTY FIVE POINT ONE PERCENT AND THAT WAS UP ALMOST 30 PERCENT. SO AS TARGETING SENIORS TO TRY TO GET THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THAT TSI, WE'RE SEEING SUCCESS ALSO OUR COUNSELORS FRENSHIP.

WE'RE VERY PROUD THAT WE PUSH ALL STUDENTS TO HAVE THAT DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT. AND SO BECAUSE OF THAT, OUR KIDS ARE COLLEGE READY AND CAREER READY.

SO THE CHALLENGES THAT WE HAVE, OBVIOUSLY, YOU GUYS KNOW WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE WAVE OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES THAT WE'RE SEEING, YOU'RE SEEING IT.

SO WE'RE SEEING THE ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, GRIEF.

I WAS FLOORED ATHOW MANY STUDENTS HAD DEALT WITH THE DEATH OF A PARENT.

NOT ALL OF THEM ARE COVID RELATED, BUT CERTAINLY IT'S A LOSS AND HARD FOR THEM TO DEAL WITH. SO WE'RE TRYING TO ADDRESS THOSE THINGS IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS.

ALSO TARGETING AND WORKING WITH THE STAFF BECAUSE THE STAFF ARE GIVING SO MUCH TO TEACHERS, WE HAVE FOUND THAT THEY AT TIMES NEED SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.

SO IT'S BEEN A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL COUNSELORS TO BE ABLE TO WORK WITH THE STAFF TO PROVIDE SOME EXTRA HELP, FAMILY CHALLENGES WE'RE SEEING.

SO NOT ONLY MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, BUT WE'RE SEEING FAMILIES THAT HAVE FINANCIAL ISSUES AND THEY HAVE HEALTH ISSUES.

THEY HAVE RELATIONAL ISSUES BECAUSE EVERYBODY GOT PACKED IN THEIR HOUSE FOR A LOT OF MONTHS TOGETHER. AND SO THAT WASN'T ALWAYS PRETTY.

AND SO BEING ABLE TO WORK WITH OUR FAMILIES HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE JUST BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING LOTS OF DIFFERENT CHALLENGES.

IT'S JUST COMPLICATED.

SO. AND GROWING STUDENT BODY, THANKFULLY, THE BOND PASSED, SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE MORE BUILDINGS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THAT'S GOING TO HELP A LOT.

ALSO, JUST DURING THIS TIME WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH, THE GROWING STUDENT, YOU KNOW, THE NUMBER OF KIDS AND THEN THE NUMBER OF KIDS WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, WE'RE SEEING IT INCREASED DRAMATICALLY.

AND SO THAT IS A HUGE CONCERN FOR COUNSELORS.

AND JUST BETWEEN SCHOOL, STARTING IN NOVEMBER 20TH, SUICIDAL IDEATION, WE'VE SEEN 58 STUDENTS. AND I WILL TELL YOU ALL THAT THIS WAS BROUGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING BREAK.

SO THANKSGIVING BREAK UNTIL RIGHT NOW, IT HAS BEEN CRAZY.

THAT'S A BAD TERM TO USE.

THAT'S NO THE RIGHT WORD. IT HAS BEEN WHEN WE WERE SEEING A HUGE SURGE IN ISSUES RIGHT NOW. AND THAT HAPPENS AROUND THE HOLIDAYS ANYWAY, BECAUSE KIDS AND SOME KIDS DON'T WANT TO GO HOME FOR THAT LONG. SO IT IS NORMAL, BUT THERE IS AN INCREASE IN THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE ISSUES. AND STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE SEEN THAT HAVE LOST THE DEATH OF A PARENT OR GUARDIAN 31 AND THEY MAY BE 50 CPS REPORTS IN CATR WHICH IS CAMPUS ALLIANCE TELEHEALTH REFERRALS. THIS IS FOR KIDS THAT NEED PSYCHIATRIC HELP.

WE'VE MADE 12 OF THOSE AND THAT'S USUALLY WHAT WE DO IN A YEAR.

AND WE'VE ALREADY MADE THAT MANY REFERRALS TO START SCHOOL.

SO THAT'S JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT OUR COUNSELORS ARE SEEING.

ALSO, COMPASSION FATIGUE.

THIS ONE WE ARE WE ARE WORKING VERY HARD TO CHECK ON OUR COUNSELORS, AMY AND I BOTH WEEKLY, MAKING SURE THEY HEAR FROM AT LEAST ONE OF US BECAUSE THEY'RE HEARING ALL OF THE SAD STORIES AND IT'S HARD ON THEM AS WELL.

I MEAN, EVEN ME, I'M GOING TO BE HONEST, I TALKED TO DR.

MCCORD LAST WEEK AND I SAID, YOU KNOW, I THINK IT'S STARTING TO AFFECT ME A LITTLE BIT AND I'M AWARE. SO I'M TAKING CARE OF IT.

BUT JUST MAKING SURE EVERYBODY IS GOOD.

IT SEEMS LIKE, EVEN THOUGH THAT'S REQUIRED, THE DISTRICT WANTS TO TAKE THAT STEP FURTHER.

SO WE'RE DEVELOPING AND SOME COMMUNICATION PIECES TO REACH OUT TO STUDENTS AND TO FAMILIES JUST TO HELP THEM IDENTIFY WHAT ARE SOME THINGS TO LOOK FOR.

TO THEM, IT'S SCHOOL AND IT'S THE CONSISTENT.
