WE HAVE 45 THAT WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE TODAY.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO START OFF WITH A CHOIR AND WE'RE GOING TO BE RECOGNIZING THREE FRENSHIP STUDENTS WHO EARNED A CHAIR IN THE 2021 TEXAS [INAUDIBLE] EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION, ALL STATE CHOIR DURING THEIR AREA AUDITIONS.

SO HERE TO HELP YOU RECOGNIZE THEM IS CHOIR DIRECTOR AMY MOSS.

GOOD EVENING, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME TONIGHT.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS.

THEY HAVE, AS YOU WELL KNOW, THEY'VE OVERCOME LOTS OF INTERESTING CHALLENGES THIS YEAR, LOTS OF CHANGES TO THE PROCESS.

ONE OF THE CHANGES THAT THEY HAD TO THE PROCESS, AT FIRST, WAS THAT THEIR AUDITIONS WERE VIRTUALLY RECORDED THIS YEAR INSTEAD OF DOING AUDITIONS IN PERSON AND THEY ELIMINATED ONE OF THE ELEMENTS, WHICH WAS THE SIGHT-READING PORTION, WHICH DOES AFFECT SCORING A LITTLE BIT. SO FOR SOME STUDENTS, IT CAN BE AN ADVANTAGE.

AND FOR SOME STUDENTS, IT CAN BE A DISADVANTAGE BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REALLY MAKE SURE THAT THAT ONE AREA THAT THEY'RE COMPETING IN IS EXTREMELY WELL-PREPARED.

THE STUDENTS GET THEIR MUSIC, CAN AND CAN GET THEIR MUSIC AS EARLY AS JUNE.

SOME OF THEM DON'T START UNTIL AUGUST, BUT THEY RECEIVE COLLEGIATE LEVEL PACKETS OF MUSIC, USUALLY ABOUT NINE TO 10, THAT A ALL STATE CONDUCTOR FOR THE DIFFERENT ENSEMBLES WILL SELECT AND HANDS OFF TO THE DIFFERENT AREAS FOR THEM TO DISTRIBUTE AND DECIDE HOW TO AUDITION THOSE PARTICULAR PIECES.

AND THEN THE STUDENTS PREPARE THOSE PIECES FOR THREE DIFFERENT ROUNDS, REGION, PRE-AREA AND AREA, AND THEN BASED OFF OF THEIR AREA SCORES, THEY'RE RANKED AND THEY ADVANCE.

THERE ARE ONLY FIVE PEOPLE FROM EACH VOICE PART SELECTED AT THE AREA LEVEL.

SO FOR OUR AREA, AREA A, THERE WOULD HAVE ONLY BEEN FIVE YOUNG WOMEN SELECTED FOR THE DIFFERENT VOICE PARTS THAT THESE YOUNG LADIES AUDITIONED FOR, WHICH IS REALLY DIFFICULT BECAUSE YOU'VE NARROWED IT DOWN FROM ALMOST 10,000, 20,000 CHOIR STUDENTS AUDITIONING DOWN TO, YOU KNOW, A REALLY SMALL NUMBER, ALMOST 150 THAT MAKE THE CHOIR.

SO IT'S PRETTY INTENSE AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WILL BE SINGING AS FAR AS WHICH PORTION OF THE PIECE THEY WILL BE AUDITIONING.

SO THEY USUALLY AUDITION ABOUT THREE TO FOUR PIECES EACH ROUND AND THEY HAVE TO CREATE THE PIECE FULLY ALL THE WAY THROUGH, POLISH IT FULLY ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

AND THEN RIGHT BEFORE THE AUDITION, THEY FIND OUT YOU'RE SINGING THIS MEASURE TO THIS MEASURE AND THEY MAY ONLY HAVE 30 SECONDS TO SHOW WHAT THEY CAN BRING TO THE TABLE.

AND THEY GENERALLY HAD ABOUT THREE PIECES OF ABOUT 30, 45 SECONDS EACH THAT THEY SUBMIT FOR THEIR AUDITIONS. SO IT'S PRETTY, PRETTY TIME-CONSUMING.

THEY DO A LOT OF WORK OUTSIDE AND INSIDE CLASS WITH US, BUT WE OBVIOUSLY ARE SUPER PROUD

SO THE FIRST ONE I'D LOVE TO RECOGNIZE IS ABBY MILLS.

AND I LOVE THAT WE GET TO RECOGNIZE FRESHMEN THIS YEAR BECAUSE WE GENERALLY DO NOT HAVE FRESHMEN MAKE THE ALL STATE CHOIR.

SO THIS IS A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR HER.

ABBY IS INVOLVED IN OUR FRESHMAN VARSITY WOMEN AND SHE'S IN FRESHMAN [INAUDIBLE] AND VERY HEAVILY INVOLVED IN OUR MUSIC THEATER PROGRAM AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

I'M VERY PLEASED TO STAND FOR YOU TO HELP RECOGNIZE THESE THREE OUTSTANDING FRENSHIP STUDENTS. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

OUR STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THREE DIFFICULT MUSICAL ÉTUDES TO PREPARE AND PERFORM BEFORE A PANEL OF JUDGES.

ON EACH OF [INAUDIBLE] THEY RANK THEM IN ORDER.

FROM THIS RANKING. A SELECT GROUP OF MUSICIANS ARE NAMED IN THE REGION 16 ALL REGION BAND AND WE WERE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE 67 STUDENTS THIS YEAR ACHIEVED THAT HONOR.

FROM THESE RANKINGS. THESE STUDENTS WERE PLACED AT THE TOP OF EACH OF THESE SECTIONS, ADVANCE TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER MUSICIANS IN EIGHT OTHER [INAUDIBLE] COMPETITIONS.

WE'RE FORTUNATE TO HAVE FORTY SIX OF OUR STUDENTS MAKE ALL AREA.

NOW, OVER 50,000 STUDENTS FROM ACROSS TEXAS INITIALLY COMPETE IN THIS AUDITION PROCESS, AND ONLY ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY STUDENTS ARE SELECTED TO AN ALL STATE MUSICIAN IN 2021.

THAT'S A LITTLE OVER THREE PERCENT.

SO DESPITE THE INNUMERABLE CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED THROUGHOUT THIS SCHOOL YEAR, 2021 ALL STATORS HAVE REMAINED COMMITTED TO THEIR PERSONAL MUSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

THEY DEMONSTRATED THE VERY PERSEVERANCE AND DEDICATION THAT ONGOING PARTICIPATION IN A MUSIC PROGRAM FOSTERS.

AND I'M PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE OUR 2021 ALL STATE BAND STUDENTS.

WE HAVE FIRST AVA MONACO, A JUNIOR FLUTE PLAYER.

THIS IS HER FIRST YEAR MAKING ALL STATE.

AND SO ALL FIVE OF MY SENIORS ACTUALLY QUALIFIED.

THEY HAD TO HAVE A GPA OF 94 AND ABOVE AND THEY HAVE TO BE A VARSITY PARTICIPANT IN GOOD STANDING AND GOOD MORAL CHARACTER AND COMPETE IN THE UIL CHEER COMPETITION.

NEXT, THESE ARE ALL STAR NOMINATIONS.

AND WHAT THAT IS, IS TO BE ABLE TO GET NOMINATED FOR THAT IS YOU HAVE TO BE AN INCOMING SENIOR, SO YOU HAVE TO BE A JUNIOR.

YOU HAD TO HAVE COMPETED IN THE UIL CHEER COMPETITION, THE COACHES HAVE TO SUBMIT UP TO FIVE, BUT ONLY TWO CHEERLEADERS PER SCHOOL GET NAMED ALL STAR CHEER.

THIS HONOR SHOULD ALSO COME AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF RECOMMENDATION FROM THE COACH AS WELL AS THE PRINCIPAL AND ALL STAR'S MUST EXHIBIT SPECIFIC SKILL SET, ATHLETICISM AND TO BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE MY SPORT SPECIFICALLY AND HAVE GOOD CHARACTER AND GOOD MORAL INTEGRITY.

AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET TWO THAT, MADE THAT.

AND THEN WE ACTUALLY HAVE ONE OF THE FIRST ALTERNATES AS WELL.

AND THEN OUR ALL STATE NOMINATION CAN BE 9TH THROUGH 12TH.

THEY HAVE TO HAVE COMPETED IN THE UIL AND STATE COMPETITION.

COACHES CAN NOMINATE UP TO FIVE AND AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF RECOMMENDATION FROM THE COACH.

TO 50 CHEERLEADERS PER CONFERENCE MAY BE SELECTED AND WE HAVE FIVE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

AND THEN WE HAVE FOR THE FIRST EVER A FRESHMAN AND THE ONLY FRESHMAN ON THE [INAUDIBLE] TEAM. SO IT'S A PRETTY BIG DEAL.

AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE HAVE OUR TGCA LEGACY ALL STARS.

AND WHAT THIS IS, IS THEY ARE THE THE SENIORS THAT YOU CAN NOMINATE, THAT YOU KNOW, THAT THEY ARE LEAVING BEHIND THEIR LEGACY AND SOMEONE THAT YOU WOULD TALK ABOUT FOR YEARS TO COME. AND SO WE HAVE TWO OF THOSE AS WELL.

ALTHOUGH THEY ENTERED THE SEASON FOUR MONTHS BEHIND MOST OTHER SCHOOLS, THESE DECATHLETES WENT TO THE REGION COMPETITION AND EARNED 40 INDIVIDUAL GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE MEDALS, FIVE OF THE TOP NINE OVERALL INDIVIDUALS COURSE, AND DECIMATED THE COMPETITION BY WINNING FIRST PLACE IN THE REGION BY 4000 POINTS.

WITH THE CHAOS THAT OCCURRED, THESE SCORES ALSO COUNTED FOR STATE.

WE HAD ONE STUDENT [INAUDIBLE] STATE [INAUDIBLE].

THE FORENSIC TEAM TOOK TWENTY THIRD OVERALL IN LARGE SCHOOL DIVISION AND 31ST OVERALL AGAINST OVER 170 SCHOOLS.

AND THIS GROUP OF LADIES AND GENTLEMEN HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE SUPERINTENDENT ADVISORY BOARD, DID WE START YOUR SOPHOMORE YEAR OR YOUR? NOW WE USE WE DO FRESHMEN.

BUT WITH THIS GROUP, WE STARTED AS SOPHOMORE.

AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT I HAVE LEARNED A LOT MORE FROM THEM THAN THEY HAVE FOR ME.

BUT IT IS MY FAVORITE PART OF WE SEE EACH OTHER ABOUT ONCE EVERY SIX WEEKS.

THAT HASN'T NECESSARILY HAPPENED EVERY SIX WEEKS THIS YEAR BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN A PANDEMIC. AND BUT WE'VE DONE LOTS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE TOGETHER.

WE AND WE HAVE MADE BLANKETS.

WE HAVE PASSED OUT FOOD.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE DONE? TELL THEM HOW GOOD I AM AT MAKING [INAUDIBLE].

AND THEY WERE LEADERS WHEN THEY STARTED IN THE PROGRAM.

BUT WHAT I FIND AMAZING ABOUT THEM IS THAT I SEE THEM BEGIN TO SEE IN THEMSELVES WHAT I SAW IN THEM FROM THE BEGINNING.

AND THEY ARE GOING THE WORLD IS GOING TO BE IN GOOD HANDS.

SO WHEN WE'RE OLD AND FEEBLE, IT'S ALL GOING TO BE GOOD IF THEY'RE IF ALL THE KIDS ARE LIKE THESE. BUT I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE THEM.

AND THEN WHAT WE ARE WHO WE ARE, WE ARE PRE-AP AND AP COURSES.

SO AP EXAMS THAT STUDENTS TAKE FOR COLLEGE CREDIT.

WE HAVE OUR DUAL CREDIT PARTNERSHIP WITH ANGELO STATE UNIVERSITY WHERE STUDENTS RECEIVE FREE TUITION AND PARENTS LOVE THAT.

AND SO DO THE KIDS.

COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS. SO ACT, SAT, TSI, WHICH IS THE COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM FOR SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE DEVELOPMENTAL COURSES AND THEN ACADEMIC DECATHLON.

I KNOW YOU GUYS SAW THEM TONIGHT.

THEY DID GREAT THIS YEAR.

AND SO LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR SUCCESSES EVEN DURING COVID.

I WON'T TALK ABOUT ACADEMIC DECATHLON SINCE YOU JUST HEARD THAT THEY WON REGION ONE FOR THE SECOND YEAR. WE HAD A STRONG AP AND DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM.

EVEN THIS SCHOOL YEAR, I WAS REALLY NERVOUS THAT OUR NUMBERS WOULD GO DOWN.

THEY DID JUST A LITTLE BIT, BUT NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED.

SO I WAS VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND PARENTS FOR TAKING THAT RISK AND STICKING IT OUT, EVEN THOUGH WE WERE HOMESCHOOLING, SO TO SPEAK, DURING THE SPRING.

AND THEN WE ALSO OUR AP SCORES, OUR STUDENTS Y'ALL HAD TO TAKE THIS EXAM AT HOME ON A COMPUTER. THEY'VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE.

IT HAPPENED LAST MINUTE, THE EXAM CHANGED.

SO IT WASN'T THE SAME DESIGN THAT THEY WERE USED TO.

WE DID LOTS OF TROUBLESHOOTING WITH TECHNOLOGY [INAUDIBLE] EVEN HELPED A LITTLE BIT.

[LAUGHTER] BELIEVE IT OR NOT, BUT OUR KIDS DID REALLY WELL.

OUR SCORES, OUR AVERAGE SCORE WAS CONSISTENT EVEN WITH THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

SO I'M VERY, VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

OUR TEACHERS WORKED HARD FOR THOSE KIDS DURING COVID.

OUR SAT SCHOOL DAYS FROM LAST YEAR WAS ABOUT THE STATE AND NATION AVERAGE.

IT WAS A 977.

WE TOOK OUR JUNIORS, TOOK IT YESTERDAY.

EVERYTHING'S ACCOUNTED FOR AND SHIPPED OFF.

IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL DAY.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

SAT AND ACT TESTS WERE A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR FOR OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE TESTING SITES WERE CLOSED.

SO THAT'S ONE THING WITH COLLEGES THAT THEY HAD TEST OPTIONAL.

SO A LOT OF OUR KIDS WERE ABLE TO APPLY AND GET ADMITTED WITHOUT HAVING TO HAVE THOSE

SCORES. WE'RE BACK TO TESTING NOW.

THEY STARTED BACK UP IN AUGUST.

SO THAT'S FULL FORCE AGAIN.

AND OUR BROADCAST MEDIA PROGRAM IS NOW, STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT.

THAT WAS BRAND NEW THIS YEAR.

YOU PROBABLY HEARD ABOUT THIS WITH AMY BAKER BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THAT CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM.

WE HAD 60 STUDENTS, ACTUALLY.

SIXTY SIX STUDENTS WILL BE RECEIVING COLLEGE CREDIT AT THE END OF THE SPRING FROM SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE. ALSO NEXT SLIDE HERE, OUR CHALLENGES.

OF COURSE, WHAT YOU'VE HEARD ALL YEAR IS COVID-19 HAS BEEN THE CHALLENGE WITH OUR REMOTE LEARNERS. TSI THAT WAS THE TEST THAT STUDENTS HAVE TO TAKE TO BE IN OUR DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM. WE WEREN'T ABLE TO TEST BECAUSE WE WEREN'T AT SCHOOL.

SO LUCKILY THERE WAS A SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE WAIVER FROM ANGELO STATE SO KIDS COULD TAKE COURSES BASED ON THEIR PSAT SCORES, EVEN BASED ON TEACHER RECOMMENDATION.

SO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS STILL HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY, EVEN WITHOUT THAT TEST, TO TAKE FULL CREDIT COURSES. AND THEY'VE BEEN SUCCESSFUL FOR THE MOST PART.

ALSO, TECHNOLOGY, AGAIN, I DID GOOD GUYS, EXAMITY, IT IS A THIRD PARTY PROPTER THAT WE'VE HAD ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO'S BEEN VIRTUAL ALL YEAR, HE'S ABLE TO TAKE THE TSI AT HOME.

EXAMITY IS A THIRD PARTY AND THEY WATCH HIM TAKE THE TEST.

THEY PROCTOR IT. SO WE WERE EXCITED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO DO THAT WITHOUT HAVING TO COME UP TO SCHOOL. ALSO, ONE OF THE DOWNFALL OF COVID IS OUR [INAUDIBLE].

OUR SEVENTH GRADERS WHO TAKE ACT AND SAT THAT WAS CANCELED THIS YEAR.

AND I THINK THEY'RE USING THAT OPPORTUNITY TO REDESIGN THE PROGRAM.

AND SO I'M WAITING TO HEAR WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE FOR THE FUTURE.

AND THEN ALSO CONSISTENCY IN PRE-AP IS A CHALLENGE.

AND WE'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD WITH OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE GETTING THAT ENROLLMENT UP AND CONSISTENT ACROSS ALL THREE SCHOOLS.

I'VE ACTUALLY GONE AND TALKED TO FIFTH GRADE TEACHERS AT THE ELEMENTARY, AND THAT'S BEEN FUN TO EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT PRE-AP IS.

I THINK SOME OF THEM JUST WASN'T SURE WHICH KIDS THEY NEED TO PUSH.

AND SO THAT'S BEEN GREAT CONVERSATIONS AND I THINK THAT WILL HELP A LOT.

AND THEN OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE, AN EXCITING THING THAT'S HAPPENING FOR FRENSHIP, IS WE'RE GOING TO BE A PART OF THE OFFICIAL PRE-AP PROGRAM WITH COLLEGE BOARD NEXT YEAR.

WE'LL OFFER FIVE COURSES, 9TH AND 10TH GRADE, AND IT WILL BE ENGLISH ONE, ENGLISH TWO, CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY.

AND THEN I JUST WENT BLANK ON THE FIFTH ONE.

ENGLISH, MATH, GEOMETRY, GEOMETRY PRE-AP.

GEOMETRY. SO THOSE ARE THE FIVE COURSES WE'RE GOING TO START WITH.

THERE ARE EIGHT TOTAL, BUT THESE ARE THE ONES THAT FIT BEST FOR FRENSHIP.

SO THAT'S GOING TO DO IS JUST MAKE SURE THAT KIDS ARE BEING PREPARED FOR AP.

IT'S GOING TO UP THE RIGOR. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT.

SO TEACHERS ARE EXCITED ABOUT IT AND SO ARE WE.

AND THEN COMING NEXT YEAR IS THE FAFSA GRADUATION REQUIREMENT FOR NEXT YEAR SENIORS.

SO WE ARE STARTING THE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO GET ALL OF THEM TO COMPLETE THE FAFSA. THAT WILL BE FUN.

AND ALSO, WE'RE INCREASING OUR COURSE OFFERINGS, ITS FINANCIAL INFORMATION.

SO I'M NOT QUITE SURE HOW THAT'S GOING TO LOOK BECAUSE WE CAN'T FORCE PARENTS TO GIVE US FINANCIAL INFORMATION.

BUT THERE ARE SOME WAIVERS.

SO IF A STUDENT DOESN'T, WE CAN SIGN OFF ON IT FOR THEM.

AND WE'RE ALSO OFFERING EARTH, EARTH AND SPACE DUAL CREDIT.

NEXT YEAR, WE'RE INCREASING OUR SCIENCE DUAL CREDIT OPTIONS AND THEN EQUAL ACCESS FOR STUDENTS IN ADVANCED ACADEMICS.

OUR LOWER SOCIOECONOMIC STUDENTS FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW NOW.

THEIR AVERAGE SCORE HAS BEEN HIGHER THAN OUR OUR KIDS WHO ARE ON FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH.

SO THAT'S AWESOME. THAT'S KIND OF BEEN THE TREND WE'RE SEEING.

AND SO WE WANT THAT TO CONTINUE.

IT WAS RESPECT THAT SHE WAS GETTING.

BUT IT WAS ALSO THE KIDS WERE ENJOYING THINGS AND SOME THINGS I NEVER SAW.

IT KEPT GOING. THE KIDS KNEW HOW THAT WAS GOING.

SO I CAN SEE THERE'S A CULTURE THERE AND THAT'S CULTURE HAS BEEN TAUGHT TO SOMEBODY AND IT JUST KEPT GETTING BETTER AND BETTER.

AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SHE BRINGS OUT THESE BOXES AND NOW THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING THESE SPIKES ON THERE. AND I'M LIKE, I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT, NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT, BECAUSE THAT'S REALLY HOW COACHES GO.

AND YOU CAN SEE A COACH, THEY THEY BRING IN DIFFERENT IMPLEMENTS INTO IT.

SO IT WAS VERY ACTIVE, VERY EXCITING.

AND I WAS HAPPY WITH THAT PART OF IT.

AND THEN I VISITED WITH HER [INAUDIBLE] AND HE COULDN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT HER.

AND SO THAT'S WHAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT, IS SOMETHING I THINK THAT OUR KIDS HAVE ALREADY COME ABOUT WITH SMILES.

I SAW THEM TODAY THERE IN THE TURF, I MEAN, THE FILM ROOM AND IT'S HAPPINESS.

PEOPLE ARE TALKING.

IT'S A DIFFERENT CULTURE.

AND I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE VERY GOOD FOR US.

WORKED IN THE FIELD. FOR ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE I HAD AN AD AT DALHART HE ALWAYS TOLD ME, YOU'RE GOING TO COME FOR ME, YOU'RE GOING TO COME COACH FOR ME.

AND I KNEW COACHING WAS STILL PART OF MY LIFE.

I WAS COACHING CLUB AND DOING THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.
