BUT THAT'S A GOOD THING BECAUSE MANY OF THESE STUDENTS, THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO BE HONORED LAST SPRING SO WE ARE EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO HONOR THEM TONIGHT.

WE'RE GOING TO START WITH SPEECH AND DEBATE.

WE WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL SPEECH AND DEBATE PROGRAM.

THREE STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE STATE CONGRESS TOURNAMENT BACK IN FEBRUARY, AND WE WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO WILLIAM STEPHENS, HE WAS AWARDED THE NATIONAL SPEECH AND DEBATE ASSOCIATION ACADEMIC ALL AMERICAN AWARD, WHICH IS GIVEN TO LESS THAN [NOISE] ONE PERCENT OF STUDENTS IN THE NATIONAL SPEECH AND DEBATE ASSOCIATION.

HE EARNED THIS THROUGH POINTS AWARDED FOR COMPETING, ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.

BUT THEN WE'VE ALSO DONE THE NATIONAL SPEECH AND DEBATE ASSOCIATION, AND THAT'S BEEN VIRTUAL AS WELL.

BUT WE'VE BEEN GIVEN THE GO-AHEAD TO GO IN PERSON NEXT YEAR, SO I'M REALLY EXCITED.

THEY JUST RECENTLY COMPETED AT THE STATE CONFERENCE WHERE THESE STUDENTS COMPETED AGAINST HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ACROSS THE STATE.

THEY HAD AN IMPRESSIVE 36 STUDENTS COMPETING VIRTUALLY AT THE STATE DECA CONFERENCE FOR VARIOUS BUSINESS-RELATED COMPETITION SUCH AS MARKETING, FINANCE, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AND HOSPITALITY.

THIS COMPETITION IS EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE AS 14,000 STUDENTS IN TEXAS VIPERS FOUGHT AT NATIONALS.

THIS YEAR, WE HAD TWO STUDENTS, GAVIN LATHAN AND TRINITY HARDING WHO CAME IN AS NATIONAL RUNNER UPS, AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE FRENSHIP ISD [NOISE] JUNIOR, DANIEL RAMIREZ WHO WAS SELECTED TO REPRESENT OUR DISTRICT AS AN OFFICER THIS YEAR.

I WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THE SUCCESSES THAT WE HAD IN THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.

TA PUT IN A NEW STATE PLAN FOR THE EDUCATION OF GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS.

[NOISE] WE WERE ABLE TO MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS IN ITS FIRST YEAR OF IMPLEMENTATION.

THAT WAS REALLY NEAT.

NEXT, WE ALSO BEEN MAKING SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF OUR GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM.

I KNOW YOU'VE ALL BEEN PROVIDED WITH A COPY THE DISTRICT EFFECTIVENESS REPORT AND THERE ARE LOTS OF GRAPHS IN THERE TO SHOW YOU THE GAINS THAT WE'VE MADE IN THIS AREA.

THE FALL OF 2019,

WE WERE ABLE TO SEND 16 EDUCATORS TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR GIFTED CHILDREN.

THEN IN TURN, THESE EDUCATORS CAME BACK TO FRENSHIP AND PRESENTED AT OUR GT SUMMIT ON JULY 21ST.

WE HAD OVER A 100 TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN THAT TRAINING FROM FOUR DIFFERENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

THAT WAS TIME WELL INVESTED TO GET TO GO TO THAT CONFERENCE.

AS YOU GUYS KNOW WE ADD SOME SPECIAL CHALLENGES IN 19-20, IN THE SPRINGTIME THOUGH WE DID MEET THE SURFACES OF OUR GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS BY PROVIDING SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS TO THEM, BOTH ON THE ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS, SO THAT WE CAN STILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICES DURING THE REMOTE LEARNING TIME.

IN THE FALL AND IN THE SPRING OF THIS YEAR, COVID HAS CONTINUED TO IMPACT OUR DELIVERY OF GIFTED AND TALENTED INSTRUCTION BY NOT BEING ABLE TO MIX COHORTS OF STUDENTS.

SO THAT PRESENTED SOME TIME CONSTRAINTS AS WELL.

BUT OVERALL, I THINK THAT OUR GT TEACHERS HAVE REALLY RISEN TO THE OCCASION AND DONE A GREAT JOB OF SERVING THE NEEDS OF OUR GIFTED STUDENTS.

SO OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE IS THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE GAINS IN THE DEMOGRAPHIC REFLECTION BECAUSE NOT ONLY IS THAT IMPORTANT TO US, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO THE STATE THAT OUR PROGRAM BE REFLECTIVE OF THE FRENSHIP DISTRICT.

WE ALSO ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR TEACHERS HAVE INSTRUCTIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR GT STUDENTS.

IN THE PAST, A TEACHER JUST LEARNED THAT HIS OR HER STUDENT WAS GT.

NOW WE'VE IMPLEMENTED SOMETHING CALLED THE ORANGE OLDER PROGRAM FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

WE RECEIVED THREE OTHER CALLS ON THE LAND, TWO OF THEM JUST OUT OF TOWN PEOPLE THAT WEREN'T INTERESTED IN.

I HAD ONE REALLY GOOD ONE.

I HAVE ONE THAT CALLED WORRIED ABOUT WESTWIND, THE SCHOOL.

[LAUGHTER] I WANT TO THANK THE CMC COMMITTEE FOR THEIR HELP AND ALWAYS THEIR GUIDANCE WHEN WE COME TO LAND ISSUES.

WE LOOKED AT THIS LAND FOR A LONG TIME.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN US TO MOVE FORWARD AND SEE WHERE WE'RE GOING WITH THIS THING.

THE SPECIFICATIONS ON THE BID WERE EVALUATED, THEY WERE SCORED IN THREE DIFFERENT AREAS.

ONE OF THEM WAS THE MONETARY PORTION OF THE BID.

ANOTHER ONE WAS 15 POINTS THE BIDDER'S DESCRIPTION OF THE LAND, AND THERE WAS ANOTHER 15 POINTS FOR THE TRAFFIC CONTROL THAT WE ASKED FOR IN DETAIL.

WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME SCORING THIS THING.

I APPRECIATE, AGAIN, THE COMMITTEE, DEREK COBB AND ALSO FARLEY REEVES FOR THEIR HELP.
