TONIGHT WE'RE RECOGNIZING TWO FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FOR THEIR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

BOTH GRANT AND ISABELLA HAVE BEEN NAMED COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2022 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.

THESE TWO PLACED AMONG THE TOP 50 THOUSAND STUDENTS ACROSS THE NATION WHO ENTERED INTO THE COMPETITION BY TAKING THE 2021 PRELIMINARY SAT NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST.

TONIGHT, FRENSHIP ISD ADVANCED ACADEMICS COORDINATOR JULIE PRATT IS HERE TO HELP US RECOGNIZE THESE STUDENTS ON THEIR OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.

FOR THOSE JUST TO REFRESH, I'M JAKE LIERMAN; I'M THE DISTRICT COORDINATOR FOR THEATER DEPARTMENT. AND THIS IS COURTNEY FERGUSON; SHE'S THE DEPARTMENT HEAD FOR THE DANCE DEPARTMENT. I JUST WANT TO SAY BEFORE WE START, WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO BE WHERE WE'RE AT.

WE FEEL CALLED TO DO WHAT WE DO.

WE ARE BLESSED TO BE IN THIS DISTRICT AND WE'RE JUST HERE TO BRAG ON OUR KIDS FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES. SO I'LL LET YOU START.

HERE WE GO. SO OVER THE PAST YEAR, DANCE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN SEVERAL AMAZING EVENTS.

THE FIRST ONE IS THE MUSICAL.

NOT ONLY DID WE HAVE A DANCE COMPANY IN GODSPELL, BUT MY TOP TWO IN ADVANCE TOP CLASS HAS ALSO PERFORMED IN THAT MUSICAL.

WE'RE CURRENTLY DOING CHOREOGRAPHY FOR BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, INCLUDING A BALLROOM SCENE, THE ICONIC BE OUR GUEST AND A BODY PERCUSSION PIECE FOR GASTON.

WE DID PERFORM A RECITAL LAST YEAR DUE TO COVID.

IT WAS JUST A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

WE JUST DID THREE.

WE BROKE IT UP INTO SMALLER SECTIONS FOR A LOWER CAPACITY.

BUT THIS YEAR WE HOPE TO PUSH OVER THREE HUNDRED STUDENTS ACROSS THE STAGE AND PERFORM FOR RECITALS, ONE 9TH GRADE AND THEN THREE HIGH SCHOOLS JUST TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR EVERYBODY.

WE'RE ALSO VERY INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY, AND I'LL GET TO THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE LATER.

OUR [INAUDIBLE] IS ALSO VERY ACTIVE.

THESE ARE THE TWO COMPETITIONS WE ATTENDED LAST YEAR AND THE ONE AT THE BOTTOM AD/DT WAS AT LUBBOCK HIGH. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME, BOTH OF OUR SQUADS, JV AND VARSITY WON BEST IN CLASS. WE COMPETED AND WON OVER SCHOOLS SUCH AS LUBBOCK HIGH, ESTACADO, CAPROCK HIGH SCHOOL, AND [INAUDIBLE].

THE CROWD PLEASER COMPETITION THAT YOU SEE ON THE TOP IS A DALLAS COMPETITION THAT WE DID VIRTUALLY, WHICH IS VERY INTERESTING.

WE VIDEOED EVERYTHING AND SENT IT IN.

AGAIN, BOTH OF OUR TEAMS, JV AND VARSITY WON THEIR CATEGORIES AND THREE OF OUR SOLOISTS WON THEIR DIVISION.

WE ALSO GOT THE ACADEMIC AWARD, WHICH I'M VERY PROUD OF FOR THEM AS WELL.

SO THIS PAST WEEKEND, I WAS A PART OF A QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION AT A ONE ACT CLINIC AND SMALLER SCHOOLS GOT TO ASK US QUESTIONS AND ONE OF THE QUESTIONS I GOT WAS HOW DO YOU GET YOUR KIDS TO THE LEVEL THAT THEY GET TO? AND IT'S A REALLY SIMPLE RECIPE.

IT'S YOU EXPECT GREATNESS, THEY WILL GIVE YOU GREATNESS.

AND I TOLD THEM, YOU EXPECT MEDIOCRITY, THEY WILL GIVE YOU MEDIOCRITY.

SO THESE KIDS THIS PAST YEAR IN ONE ACT, WATCHING THEM SET ALL OF THESE RECORDS FOR FRENSHIP BEING THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY THAT WE MADE IT TO THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN GETTING THERE AND WATCHING THEM JUST TAKE OVER THIS AUDIENCE AND DELIVER A STORY, YOU KNOW, I'M BIASED, I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE WON.

ME TOO, I WAS THERE.

BUT ONE THING THAT WE WERE UP AGAINST THIS YEAR WAS COVID.

YOU KNOW, SHOULD WE WEAR A MASK WHEN WE PERFORM? SHOULD WE NOT? YOU KNOW, AND THEY ENDED UP LEAVING IT UP TO THE SCHOOLS.

AND IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HURT US IN THE ARTSY WORLD, THINGS ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT AND WE CHOSE NOT TO WEAR A MASK.

YOU KNOW, WE WANTED TO DELIVER OUR STORY.

WE WANTED THEM TO SEE THE FACES OF THESE CHILDREN AND WHAT THEY COULD GIVE THEM AND WALKING AWAY FROM THIS, I'VE NEVER BEEN A PART OF SOMETHING SO COOL IN MY LIFE WATCHING THESE KIDS DO THIS AND JUST SEEING THAT REWARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WORLD WAS A LITTLE CHAOTIC IN THE PROCESS.

SO THE STATE FINALISTS, WE ENDED UP FIFTH THERE, BUT ONE OF THE JUDGES THOUGHT WE WERE THE STATE CHAMPION AND GAVE US FIRST.

SO THAT'S PRETTY COOL.

WE ALSO WE ALSO PARTICIPATE IN DSM, AND YOU ALL HAVE SEEN A LOT OF KIDS COME IN HERE THAT HAVE BEEN JIMMY NOMINEES.

THIS PAST YEAR, WE WON BEST ENSEMBLE, WHICH HAS BEEN A DREAM OF OURS ALONG THE WAY BECAUSE ENSEMBLE MEANS FAMILY TO ME, YOU KNOW, THEY COULD SEE THAT CAMARADERIE ON STAGE AND SEE THAT THESE KIDS LOVE EACH OTHER AND THEY LOVE PERFORMING TOGETHER.

AND THEN SAVANNAH PRUITT, WINNING BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS THIS YEAR, WATCHING HER FACE.

IF YOU KNOW SAVANNAH, SHE'S ONE IN A MILLION.

SO WE'RE NOW SITTING ON FORTY FOUR NOMINATIONS IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS, WHICH IS PRETTY INCREDIBLE AND UNMATCHED BY A LOT OF SCHOOLS.

ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY HAVE TO TRAVEL SO FAR TO [INAUDIBLE].

YES, THEY DO EVERYBODY ELSE THAT WE COMPETE IN IS IN THAT DALLAS AREA.

THERE'S A FEW SCHOOLS OUT THERE, BUT MOST OF THEM ARE RIGHT THERE IN THE DFW AREA.

BUT I MEAN, THEY FLY TO US TO COME SEE OUR SHOWS.

SOME OF THEM WILL DRIVE THAT DISTANCE AND THEY LIKE WHAT THEY SEE, WHICH IS AWESOME, AND THEY LOVE OUR COMMUNITY.

EVERY YEAR THEY'RE LIKE, MAN, THEY COME OUT FOR THESE SHOWS.

YEAH, THEY DO. SO WE LOVE THAT SUPPORT AS A PERFORMING ARTS COMMUNITY.

WE TRY TO GET OUT INTO OUR COMMUNITY TO GIVE BACK.

ALTHOUGH THIS YEAR WAS A LITTLE TOUGHER, THE THESPIANS SOCIETY WASN'T ABLE TO GET INTO THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LIKE THEY NORMALLY DO.

WE WERE ABLE TO DO SEVERAL EVENTS.

WE HOSTED OVER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE DANCERS AT THE MINI CAMP.

WE GOT TO DO TIGER RIDES, WHICH IS SO COOL WE DELIVERED IT TWICE AND BOTH TIMES MY KIDS WERE LIKE, THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE.

VERY COOL PROGRAM.

THANK YOU FOR LETTING US BE A PART OF THAT.

WE GO TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND VISIT ON FRIDAYS.

WE WERE PART OF THE FRENSHIP FOUNDATION GRANT PARADE, WHICH WE WERE VERY HONORED TO BE A PART OF. KCBD HOMETOWN TOUR AND THEN THAT [INAUDIBLE] PICTURE I WAS REALLY PROUD OF.

TWO OF OUR FORMER STUDENTS WERE ACTUALLY IN TEXAS THE MUSICAL THIS YEAR, WHICH I THINK IS JUST A PART OF HISTORY WHEN IT COMES TO WEST TEXAS.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY NEAT.

THIS IS A MAP, YOU KNOW, EVERY TIME WE DO THIS, WE PUT THIS SLIDE IN THERE AND I JUST NEED TO ADD IN OUR KIDS.

THIS IS THE ACTIVE KIDS RIGHT NOW, SO I TAKE KIDS OFF OF IT THAT HAVE ALREADY GRADUATED.

WE HAVE SOME THAT ARE IN NEW YORK RIGHT NOW PURSUING THEIR DREAMS, SOME IN L.A.

BUT THIS IS A MAP OF OUR ACTIVE KIDS WITHIN COLLEGIATE PROGRAMS AND NOT JUST COLLEGIATE PROGRAMS. BUT YOU SEE NYU UP THERE, UCLA, PEPPERDINE, SOME OF THE TOP THEATER AND DANCE PROGRAMS, OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY, THE TOP PROGRAMS IN THE NATION.

SO, YEAH, THIS IS YOU AGAIN.

THIS IS ME. YEAH, JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW SOME OF THE STUFF THAT'S COMING UP, HERE IN A FEW WEEKS, NOVEMBER 12TH THROUGH THE 15TH IS THE JUNGLE BOOK.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THEY'RE DOING IT IN THE NINTH GRADE CENTER IN A WAY THAT WE'RE ALLOWED. WE'RE BRINGING IN ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES TO WATCH THE SHOW DURING THE DAY. THERE'S ONE DAY WHERE THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE COMING IN AND WE'RE GOING TO GIVE THEM A TOUR OF OUR CAMPUSES.

LET THEM SEE THE FINE ARTS PROGRAMS. SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT ONE.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, IT IS A BEAST OF A SHOW, BUT IT'S GOING TO GET THERE.

IT'S GOING TO GET THERE. BUT IT'S DECEMBER 3RD THROUGH THE 5TH.

WE'RE IN TALKS OF POSSIBLY BRINGING ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS INTO THAT AS WELL.

IT DEPENDS ON MUSICIANS.

WITH THESE SHOWS, CAN WE GET THEM DURING THE DAY? SO WE'RE KIND OF FIGURING OUT IF WE CAN DO THAT, BUT FINGERS CROSSED WE'LL GET THE FOURTH GRADERS IN THERE LIKE, WE USUALLY DO.

JEKYLL AND HYDE'S COMING UP AND THE END OF JANUARY.

BOTH BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AND JEKYLL AND HYDE THIS YEAR WILL BE IN THE DSM COMPETITION.

GIVES OUR KIDS THAT MUCH MORE OF AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE SEEN BY BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS.

THAT PROGRAM, I'LL TELL YOU, IT GIVES IT GIVES A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY.

CIARA ROBESON WAS ONE OF OUR JIMMY NOMINEES A FEW YEARS AGO AND THIS PAST WEEKEND GOT TO SING WITH KRISTIN CHENOWETH LIKE THINGS HAPPEN FROM THAT PROGRAM.

AND SO WE WERE LIKE, LET'S PUT TWO SHOWS IN THERE, AND MAYBE WE CAN GET THEIR FACES OUT THERE MORE. YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT DANCERS? GO AHEAD. I MEAN, WE'RE GOING TO DO THE DANCE RECITAL ON APRIL 19TH AND 21ST.

AND THERE ARE A LOT OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT, IN MY OPINION, THEY DID WHAT WAS EASIER FOR THE ADULTS. AND IN THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT, WE DIDN'T DO THAT.

SO WE HAD THEM GO OUT FOR AN RFP AND THANK YOU TO [INAUDIBLE] FOR WORKING REALLY HARD WITH HEATHER TO GET THE RFP DONE TO GET ADVERTISED AND ALL OF THAT.

AND SO THIS IS JUST THE PROCESS THAT HAPPENED THROUGH GOING THROUGH THE RFP AND MAKING SURE THAT WE PUT IT OUT THERE FOR OTHER COMPANIES TO SEE.

AND WE'RE LIKE, WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? WELL, THEY DIDN'T GIVE IT TO OUR PPO PLANS.

WE WENT BACK AND RENEGOTIATED AND SAID, THAT'S NOT REALLY FAIR BECAUSE WE DIDN'T TELL THEM THAT THERE WOULD BE FREE.

THEY MIGHT HAVE CHOSE A PLAN WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO GET FREE MEDICATIONS.

SO THEY WENT BACK AND INCLUDED OUR PPO PLANS.

SO THOSE CHRONIC MEDICATIONS FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE DIABETICS, A LOT OF THINGS WERE COVERED. AND SO IT KIND OF DROVE UP THE MEDICAL COSTS, ALTHOUGH THEY WEREN'T CHARGED, OUR PLAN WAS CHARGED. SO WE'VE GONE BACK AND REVISITED THAT AS WELL.

SO THIS IS OUR TOTAL PREMIUMS PAID IN A LITTLE OVER THREE POINT FIVE MILLION AND OUR TOTAL CLAIMS PAID OUT.

THIS IS, I THINK, THROUGH AUGUST FOUR MILLION FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND.

SO WE WERE AT ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE PERCENT RATIO.

WHERE WE WANT TO BE IS AT 80.

THAT'S SO THAT THEY BUILD IN THAT 20-50 PERCENT ADMINISTRATIVE FEE AND THEN A LITTLE CUSHION THERE. SO WE WERE WAY OVER.

THEY COULD HAVE CAME IN WITH A FORTY FIVE PERCENT INCREASE.

SO, WE'VE GOT THE 25, WE THOUGHT, OH, GOODNESS, IS THIS THE BEST WE CAN DO? SO I SENT OUT A SURVEY AND WE SURVEYED THE EMPLOYEES TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO KNOW THAT.

DID THEY WANT TO CONTINUE WITH AN HSA? DID THEY WANT TO GO TO A CO-PAY PLAN? DID THEY LIKE THE FREE PRESCRIPTIONS? WAS THAT HELPING THEM FINANCIALLY? SO WE LOOKED AT EVERYTHING ACROSS THE BOARD, AND GUESS WHAT THE SURVEY SHOWED? IT WAS ABOUT HALF AND HALF ALL THE WAY.

HALF LIKED HSA, HALF WANTED A CO-PAY.

HALF LIKED THE FREE PRESCRIPTIONS.

HALF SAID I DIDN'T REALLY USE IT, BUT THE ONES THAT DID USE THE FREE PRESCRIPTIONS WERE SAVING WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS.

SOME OF THEM [INAUDIBLE] ABOUT TWO AND THREE THOUSAND FOR DIABETIC MEDICATIONS.

SO WE HAVE PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT THAT THEIR MEDICATIONS ARE UP TO THREE THOUSAND A MONTH. SO THEY WERE MEETING THEIR DEDUCTIBLE AFTER A MONTH AND A QUARTER, YOU KNOW, SO TO THEM, THAT WAS THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD BENEFIT.

SO WE SURVEYED THEM.

WE DID HAVE FOUR DIFFERENT COMPANIES THAT CAME IN.

WE WOULD PUT IT OUT TO FOUR DIFFERENT COMPANIES, AETNA DECLINED TO BE IN, BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD CAME OUT OF 14 PERCENT, BUT THEY HAVE A FULL NATIONAL NETWORK.

BUT THERE WAS NO OPTION FOR SMALLER NETWORK WITH THE LOWER PREMIUM.

THEY WEREN'T REALLY WILLING TO WORK FOR THIS MUCH.

THEY JUST CAME IN AND SAID, THAT'S OUR BEST SHOT AND IT'S ALL WE'RE GOING TO DO, AND THEY WOULD ONLY GIVE US LIKE A FOURTEEN POINT NINE PERCENT RATE CAP.

SO UNITEDHEALTHCARE, THEY CAME IN WITH A TWENTY SEVEN PERCENT INCREASE.

THEY DID DROP IT DOWN, BUT IT WAS GOING TO BE A VERY SMALL, VERY SKINNY NETWORK.

WE WERE ONLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO GO TO UMC.

AND WHEN WE TALKED TO SOME PEOPLE, WE REALLY REALIZED THAT IF WE PUSHED A THOUSAND OF OUR EMPLOYEES ONTO UMC, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THAT MANY PEOPLE JUST GOING THERE. WE ALSO DID A MARSH MCLENNAN LOOKED AT ALL THE DATA TO SEE HOW MANY OF OUR EMPLOYEES ARE USING COVENANT ONLY.

AND SO WE HAD LIKE SIXTY EIGHT PERCENT OF OUR EMPLOYEES THAT ARE USING COVENANT ONLY.

SO THEY HAD NO INSTANCES THAT THEY WENT TO ANY NETWORK OUTSIDE OF COVENANT.

AND SO WHEN WE LOOKED AT OUR RENEWAL PLAN, WE WERE ABLE TO COME UP WITH SOME COVENANT ONLY PLANS. AND IF THEY GO WITH THE COVENANT ONLY PLANS, WHETHER IT'S THE CO-PAY PLAN, WHICH SOME PEOPLE WANTED CO-PAY SOME WANTED HSA, THE BENEFITS OF THE HSA THAT THE PEOPLE WERE SAYING, I GET TO PUT THAT IN THERE? I GET TO KEEP THAT. IT'S MINE, I DON'T LOSE IT.

IT STAYS THERE. IF I DON'T USE IT, I KEEP GETTING TO COLLECT IT.

BUT THE CO-PAY PLAN, PEOPLE FEEL SAFE WITH THAT AND THEY LIKE TO PAY THAT CO-PAY AND THEY LIKE THE PRESCRIPTION OF IT.

SO WE WANTED TO THROW THOSE IN THERE.

IF WE HAVE SIXTY EIGHT PERCENT, EVEN IF SOME OF THEM WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE, THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A DECREASE IN PREMIUM SO THAT THREE DOLLARS AND 19 CENTS, THAT THE LOWEST PREMIUM WE HAD LAST YEAR WAS TWENTY TWO DOLLARS.

SO IF THEY GO WITH EITHER ONE OF THESE PLANS, THEY'RE GOING TO BE GETTING A DECREASE.

IF THEY DON'T WANT TO GO WITH THE PLAN THEY WERE ON AND THEY'LL BE ABLE TO CHANGE OVER AND GO TO COVENANT ONLY. THE OTHER THREE PLANS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE OFFERED LAST YEAR. THE DISTRICT AND WITH YOUR BLESSING, WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE THE WHAT WE'VE BEEN PAYING TOWARDS EMPLOYEE HEALTH.

IT WAS THREE HUNDRED AND WE RAISED IT TO THREE TWENTY FIVE.

THE LAST MONTHLY WE RAISED, THAT WAS IN 2015, SO WE HADN'T LOOKED AT THAT FOR A WHILE.

SO WE RAISED IT BY TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS AND SO WE TOOK AWAY SOME OF THE INCREASE THAT THE EMPLOYEES WILL HAVE. SO I DIDN'T CALCULATE ALL THE WAY ACROSS.

BUT ON THAT FIRST ONE, THE BIGGEST INCREASE THERE IS AROUND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS IF THEY GO WITH THE WITH THE BEST PLAN, THE PPO PLAN, THAT'S THE PRESENTATION.

SO THESE CHANGES WILL TAKE EFFECT IN JANUARY.

IS THAT RIGHT? YES, JANUARY 1, AND ONE THING AND I'M SORRY, THE COMMITTEE DID MEET ONCE IN PERSON, ONCE VIRTUALLY, THEY SAW THE SURVEY RESULTS.

WE WENT OVER IT. THEY TOOK THE INFORMATION BACK TO THEIR CAMPUSES.

AND ANOTHER THING THAT SCOTT AND WHITE HEALTH PLAN DID IS THEY GAVE US A RED CAP FOR THE NEXT YEAR. SO THAT'S REALLY GOOD BECAUSE IF WE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE PATTERN THAT WE'RE IN RIGHT NOW, WE COULD HAVE ANOTHER BAD YEAR.

AND SO THE MOST IT COULD GO UP WOULD BE NINE POINT SIX PERCENT FOR A COUPLE OF THE PLANS.

AND THEN, IT'S A LITTLE BIT VARIANCE THERE.

BUT THEY DID GIVE US A RED CAP, WHICH WILL BE VERY BENEFICIAL.

AND HEATHER IS LIKE, SHE IS NOT GOING TO, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO JUMP STRAIGHT TO THE RED CAP. SHE'S GOING TO NEGOTIATE DOWN AND SHE DOES A REALLY GOOD JOB.

AND SO I WAS ALSO REALLY EXCITED THAT DEPENDING ON WHAT PLAN YOU CHOSE, SO THE DISTRICT WAS ABLE TO GIVE A RAISE.

THE DISTRICT WAS ABLE TO GIVE A ONE TIME LUMP SUM AND THEN A RETENTION BONUS AND A SIGNING BONUS.

AND A LOT OF TIMES THAT JUST COVERS WHAT ENDS UP BEING THE INCREASE OF THE INSURANCE IN JANUARY. SO THEY'RE LIKE EXCITED.

AND THEN IT'S LIKE, OH, THIS IS JUST ENOUGH TO COVER MY INSURANCE INCREASE.

AND THIS YEAR, IF THEY CHOOSE, DEPENDING ON HOW THEY CHOOSE, THEY GET TO KEEP ALL OF THAT RAISE AND ALL OF THAT ONE TIME LUMP SUM AND ALL OF THAT WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY IT IN JANUARY. YEAH.

SO THAT IS A HUGE.
