THE MEDICINE AND DISEASE OLYMPIAD IS A KNOWLEDGE-BASED PROGRAM, PROBLEM-SOLVING COMPETITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

THE COMPETITION TESTS THE PARTICIPANT'S KNOWLEDGE IN MEDICINE RELATED FIELDS OF BIOLOGY INCLUDING TOPICS LIKE MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY, HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY AND HUMAN DISEASES.

OVER THE SUMMER, ARYAN HAD A STEADY COLLEGE-LEVEL CURRICULUM AND TOPICS TO PREPARE FOR THE HIGHLY COMPETITIVE US TEST.

OUT OF 160 QUESTIONS, HE ANSWERED 157 CORRECT AND PLACED A SECOND IN THE NATION, EARNING HIM A SPOT ON TEAM USA.

IF THAT WASN'T IMPRESSIVE ENOUGH, IN EARLY AUGUST, HE ADVANCED TO THE INTERNATIONAL MEDICINE AND DISEASE OLYMPIAD, ALONG WITH NINE OTHERS FROM TEAM USA.

JUST RECENTLY IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT ARYAN INTERNATIONAL TEST SCORE EARN ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL, THIS TIME FOURTH IN THE WORLD.

[NOISE] WHO JUST GRADUATED LAST MAY, CURRENT SENIORS WHO WILL GRADUATE THIS SPRING, AND A FEW JUNIORS WHO TOOK THE TEST AS SOPHOMORES.

NOW OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED AP SCHOLAR AWARDS, NEARLY 20 STUDENTS ARE IN THE AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION, THAT'S THE HIGHEST AWARD POSSIBLE.

AP SCHOLAR, WHICH MEANS A STUDENT IS SCORED THREE OR ABOVE ON THREE DIFFERENT EXAMS., AP SCHOLAR WITH HONORS, MEANING THE STUDENT SCORED THREE OR ABOVE ON FOUR EXAMS, AND THE HIGHEST TIER IS AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION, MEANING A STUDENT MADE A THREE OR ABOVE ON FIVE OR MORE AP EXAMS. LAST YEAR, FRENSHIP HAD 77 STUDENTS GET THIS HONOR, 17 OF WHICH WERE AT THE SECOND TIER AND 18 OF WHICH WERE AT THE HIGHEST.

WHEN WE GREW OVER PRIOR YEARS, YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE NUMBERS AREA WE PARTICIPATED IN GROUP, EVEN THOUGH THE WEATHER WAS EVEN HOTTER THIS SUMMER THAN IT WAS LAST SUMMER.

BUT WE HAVE LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS AND THE KIDS HAD A GREAT TIME.

THERE'S NO SPLIT IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ON OPTION B.

WE PLAN ON HAVING FOUR COMMUNITY MEETINGS ON THESE, AND WE'LL PUBLICIZE THOSE PLENTY IN ADVANCE ON OCTOBER THE 23RD, 24TH, 25TH, 26TH, IT'S A BUSY WEEKEND.

AT EACH OF THE MIDDLE-SCHOOL.

IN THE FALL OF 25, THOSE 7TH GRADERS AND 8TH GRADERS WILL BE 9TH GRADERS AND 10TH GRADERS.

AGAIN, 11TH AND 12TH GRADERS WON'T BE IMPACTED.

WE THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING A MEETING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT THEN THEIR CHILDREN ARE IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

THEN IN THE SPRING WE'LL CREATE GRANDFATHERING GUIDELINES IF THERE ARE ANY.

BUT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE 90 YEARS OLD WHEN WE OPEN.

IT'S BEEN AN EXCITING TIME AND EXCITED ABOUT THE GROWTH IN THE COMMUNITY THAT GOES WITH IT.

AS WE LOOK AT THESE BOUNDARIES AND UNDERSTAND THAT THESE AREN'T JUST STREETS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT, BUT THESE ARE PEOPLE'S LIVES AND TRADITIONS AND ROUTINES.

THAT'S WHY WE'RE HAVING MANY MEETINGS.

THAT IS AN EXPENSIVE ENDEAVOR, BUT ALSO WE'VE USED IT AND WE'VE USED THE DEMOGRAPHERS TO HELP US DEVELOP BOUNDARIES SINCE 2009.

THAT WAS BEFORE I CAME. BUT IT IS UNCANNY HOW IF YOU LOOK BACK TO 2009 AND IT PROJECTED OUT TO 2019, AND HOW REMARKABLY CLOSE THEY WERE ON THE TOTAL ENROLLMENT NUMBERS.

NOW THEY MIGHT MISS IT BY A GRADE, IN THE GRADE LEVELS OR SOMETHING, BUT THE OVERALL NUMBER, THEY MIGHT MISS IT BY 50 OR 60 KIDS, 10 YEARS OUT.

THE THING THAT EVERY BOARD THAT I'VE BEEN A MEMBER OF AT FRIENDSHIP IN BOARDS PRIOR TO ME WHEN I SIT OUT IN THE AUDIENCE AND WATCH THINGS TAKE PLACE, I'VE DONE THAT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE GETTING TASKED WITH THIS POSITION.

THE DISTRICT HAS ALWAYS OPERATED IN TRANSPARENT.

THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY SERIOUS ABOUT LISTENING TO THEIR STAKEHOLDERS AND LET THEIR STAKEHOLDERS GIVE INPUT BEFORE THEY TOOK ACTION ON THINGS.

I THINK THAT IS A CULTURE THAT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED OUT HERE.

BEING A DISTRICT THAT BRIDGES TWO MUNICIPALITIES AND TWO COUNTIES.

THAT'S JUST THE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S ALWAYS TOOK PLACE AT HERE.

I WANT [NOISE] TO ENCOURAGE THIS BOARD AS I KNOW WHAT IT WILL DO SO IN THIS ADMINISTRATION AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS TO KEEP THAT IN MIND.

WHEN YOU START REARRANGING BOUNDARIES, IT CAN GET EMOTIONAL.

PEOPLE CAN GET EMOTIONAL ABOUT IT.

I THINK WE ALL JUST NEED TO KEEP OUR HEADS AND LISTEN TO WHAT OUR STAKEHOLDERS HAVE TO SAY, AND TAKE THAT INPUT AND COME TOGETHER AS A COLLECTIVE BODY AND MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS FOR EVERYBODY AS A WHOLE.
