FIRST, I'D LIKE TO WELCOME KELSEY TAYLOR UP HERE, AND MR. MCAFEE, IF YOU'D LIKE TO ALSO JOIN US, SOME GOOD SPACE HERE.

FRENSHIP ISD IS VERY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT KELSEY TAYLOR, OUR NINTH GRADE CENTER ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE 2024 TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR BY THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

THE STATEWIDE AWARD RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, FROM THE 20 REGIONS ACROSS TEXAS, AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ARE NOMINATED AND CHOSEN BY THEIR PEERS WITHIN THEIR REGIONS, AND OUT OF ALL THE FINALISTS, KELSEY WAS SELECTED AS THE TEXAS ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR FOR HER EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE, AND OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP.

NOW KELSEY IS A PROUD 2006 FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE WHO ATTENDED FRENSHIP SCHOOLS FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12TH GRADE, AND AFTER EARNING A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ENGLISH AT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY, SHE RETURNED TO HER ROOTS, AND BEGAN HER EDUCATIONAL CAREER AS A TEACHER AT FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL.

IN 2020, KELSEY WAS NAMED THE NINTH GRADE CENTER ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, AND SHE IS CURRENTLY IN HER 13TH YEAR IN EDUCATION ALL HERE AT FRENSHIP ISD.

AS A RECIPIENT OF THIS AWARD, AND KELSEY WILL BE HONORED DURING THE TEXAS PAST SUMMER WORKSHOPS HELD IN AUSTIN, AND THEN SHE IS ALSO IS A RUNNING FOR THE NATIONAL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR.

TONIGHT WE HAVE SPECIAL GUEST, ARCHIE MCAFEE, HE IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

HE MADE THE TRIP TO FRENSHIP FROM AUSTIN SO THAT HE COULD HELP RECOGNIZE KELSEY TONIGHT.

>> SO MAYBE I SIT DOWN. BUT MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, SUPERINTENDENT OF COURSE IT'S TRULY MY HONOR FOR ME TO BE HERE THIS EVENING REPRESENTING OVER 6,000 SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS IN TEXAS, TO HONOR KELSEY TAYLOR.

KELSEY WAS SELECTED AS THE REGION 17 HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR LAST JUNE BY HER PEERS, AND THEN LAST DECEMBER, AFTER FOLLOWING A PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH THE PRINCIPAL IMAGE COMMITTEE OF AUSTIN, KELSEY WAS SELECTED BY THE PRINCIPAL IMAGE COMMITTEE, ANTHONY TEXAS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, WHICH COVERS BOTH THE MIDDLE LEVEL AND HIGH [APPLAUSE] [BACKGROUND] SCHOOL.

I THINK THIS DESERVES AN APPLAUSE.

I HAVE A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO ADD AS A REMINDER.

KELSEY HAS DISTINGUISHED HERSELF AS THE LEADER OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS.

ADMINISTRATORS IN TEXAS AND THIS AWARD IS INDICATIVE OF HER CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUCCESS OF THE NINTH GRADE CAMPUS OF FRENSHIP ISD, AND KELSEY IS AN EFFECTIVE MEMBER OF OUR ASSOCIATION [INAUDIBLE].

I'M NOT PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS OF THE PRINCIPAL REVIEW.

HOWEVER, I DO TAKE THE LIBERTY OF READING THE APPLICATION, BECAUSE I'M ALWAYS INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT THESE YOUNG PRINCIPALS ARE DOING TO HELP MOTIVATE THEIR STUDENTS TO DO WELL.

IT'S MUCH DIFFERENT THAN WHEN I WAS A PRINCIPAL 100 YEARS AGO.

[LAUGHTER] I READ THE APPLICATION AND IT JUST GIVES ME A THRILL TO READ ABOUT THINGS THAT KELSEY AND HER PEERS ARE DOING FOR KIDS.

IF YOU DON'T MIND, I'D LIKE TO READ PART OF A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION I WAS READING.

MY FAVORITE PART OF THE APPLICATION ARE THE RECOMMENDATION, BECAUSE THEY GIVE A CLOSE AND PERSONAL VIEW OF THE CANDIDATE, AND AS I READ THE LETTERS THAT HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED ON BEHALF OF KELSEY, A SIMPLE THING BECAME VERY EVIDENT, A THING BASED ON WHAT I CALL THE THREE CS OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, CARE, COMPASSION AND COMMITMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS.

PART OF THE LETTER I'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU WAS WRITTEN BY A PARENT, MISS WHITNEY SMITH, IF SHE'S HERE WITH YOU?

>> IN HER LETTER, MISS SMITH WRITES, "I HAVE KNOWN KELSEY TAYLOR IN BOTH THE STUDENT, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DAUGHTER, KIMBERLY SMITH, AT THE FRENSHIP NINTH GRADE CENTER, AND AS A SOFTBALL COACH WITH MY DAUGHTER, KIMBERLY SMITH, HAS BEEN PLAYING FOR THE PAST 18 MONTHS." SHE SAYS, "MY DAUGHTER KIMBERLY WAS A STUDENT AT THE NINTH GRADE CENTER, KELSEY IS A DIRECT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL.

SHE'S INVOLVED WITH STUDENTS AND IN MANY ASPECTS OF THEIR SCHOOL LIFE, AND SHE REMEMBERS STUDENTS NAMES WHICH MAKES THEM FEEL LIKE SHE KNOWS THEM PERSONALLY.

HER DOOR WAS ALWAYS OPEN WHEN YOU NEED TO TALK, AND SHE FIGURED OUT A WAY TO HELP THE STUDENTS WITH THE PROBLEMS. SHE CAN BE STERN AND KEEPS THE STUDENTS IN LINE, WHICH IS HARD TO DO WITH HUNDREDS OF 14-15 YEAR OLD TEENAGERS, BUT SHE IS STILL VERY FRIENDLY AND CAN MAKE YOU SMILE.

SHE HAS A WAY OF MAKING YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND IS VERY APPROACHABLE." SHE CONCLUDES HER LETTER BY SAYING, "I FEEL LIKE KELSEY DESERVES TO WIN THIS STATE PRINCIPAL AWARD FOR HOW GREAT SHE IS, NOT ONLY AS A PERSON BUT AS A PRINCIPAL WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT HER STUDENTS." KELSEY, BECAUSE OF YOUR CARE, CONCERN, AND COMMITMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS, WE HAVE THIS PLAQUE FOR YOU AND IT SAYS, SELECTED FOR HER WILLINGNESS TO TAKE RISKS TO HELP STUDENTS, HER ABILITY TO ANTICIPATE AND SOLVE PROBLEMS, AND SUCCESS IN IMPROVING THE SCHOOL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

WE HAD A LOT OF GREAT APPLICANTS FOR THE OPENING OF HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE IF YOU REMEMBER IN JANUARY, WE NAMED CHELSEY CAMPBELL, WHO WAS THE HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, AS FRENSHIP MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, AND SO THAT LEFT THAT SLOT OPEN, AND KELSEY INTERVIEWED.

ALL OF THOSE GREAT ATTRIBUTES THAT WERE MENTIONED IN THE LETTER CAME ACROSS IN HER INTERVIEW FOR HERITAGE.

IT'S NOT OFFICIAL YET BECAUSE THE BOARD HAS TO TAKE A VOTE IN THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT'S COMING UP AFTER THE RECOGNITIONS.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND KELSEY TAYLOR AS THE PRINCIPAL FOR HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I WAS GOING TO SAY MEDICAL SCHOOL, [LAUGHTER] BUT THAT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT THING.

MAYBE YOU'RE NOT COOPERATING FOR THAT YET, BUT PROBABLY, I KNOW YOU COULD DO IT.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'M GOING TO TELL HER, KELSEY, THAT SHE'S LIKE, DEAR, WHAT IS SHE GOING TO SAY? BUT YOU JUST HEARD IT.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I DON'T HEAR VERY MUCH, COMING FROM SECONDARY PRINCIPALS OR REALLY ADMINISTRATORS, I KNOW I DON'T DO IT HARDLY ENOUGH.

BUT WHEN I ASKED KELSEY IF SHE WAS STILL INTERESTED IN THE POSITION, SHE GIGGLED.

THERE SHOULD BE MORE GIGGLING, [LAUGHTER] IN SECONDARY ADMINISTRATION.

I JUST LOVE THAT ENTHUSIASM AND THAT PASSION, AND KNOW THAT THAT WILL CONTINUE.

[NOISE] FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, FRENSHIP STUDENT CESAR GUZMAN IS HEADED TO THE NATIONAL SPANISH SPELLING BEE COMPETITION THIS SUMMER.

NOW THIS MARKS THE SIXTH YEAR A FRENSHIP STUDENT HAS ADVANCED TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION.

LAST YEAR IS A FIFTH GRADER AT WILLOW BEND ELEMENTARY, HE QUALIFIED FOR THE NATIONAL SPANISH SPELLING BEE, AND NOW IS A SIXTH GRADER AT TERRA VISTA MIDDLE SCHOOL.

HIS SPELLING BEE SKILLS REMAINED UNMASHED.

HE WON FIRST PLACE IN THE FRENSHIP DISTRICT SPANISH SPELLING BEE BACK IN SEPTEMBER.

IN NOVEMBER, HE TOOK HOME THE FIRST PLACE REGIONAL TROPHY, SECURING A BACK-TO-BACK APPEARANCE AT NATIONALS.

NOW TONIGHT, WE HAVE HIS TEACHER, MRS. BARRAGAN, HERE TO HELP US RECOGNIZE CESAR'S ACCOMPLISHMENT.

FOUR OF OUR FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR STUDENTS FOR THEIR RECENT SELECTION TO THE TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION ALL-STATE CHOIR.

BEING SELECTED FOR ALL-STATE CHOIR IS CONSIDERED THE HIGHEST HONOR A TEXAS MUSIC STUDENT CAN RECEIVE.

ACROSS THE STATE, NEARLY 1,900 STUDENTS ARE SELECTED THROUGH A PROCESS THAT BEGAN WITH OVER 70,000 STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE STATE VYING FOR THIS HONOR TO PERFORM IN ONE OF THE 18 ENSEMBLES.

NOW, ONLY THE TOP 2.6% OF MUSICIANS WHO INITIALLY AUDITION BECOME ALL-STATE MUSICIANS.

THESE FOUR FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS JUST PERFORMED WITH THE TMEA, ALL-STATE CHOIRS, ON FEBRUARY 10TH IN SAN ANTONIO.

TONIGHT WE HAVE FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR DIRECTOR AMY MOSS TO HELP US RECOGNIZE THESE STUDENTS.

IT'S TREMENDOUSLY PROUD OF THESE KIDS, AND ONE OF OUR STUDENTS UNFORTUNATELY, COULDN'T BE HERE TONIGHT, BUT JUST AMAZING WORK ETHIC.

THIS PROCESS STARTS BACK IN THE SUMMER AND THEY HAVE TO GIVE A LOT OF EXTRA TIME, NOT JUST IN CLASS PERIODS, BUT THEY GIVE A LOT OF EXTRA TIME OUTSIDE OF CLASS, AND A LOT OF FORETHOUGHT AND PLANNING GOES INTO IT.

THEY HAVE TO WORK SO HARD TO BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH THEMSELVES FROM OTHER STUDENTS THAT ARE ALSO SINGING ALL OF THE SAME MUSIC.

AS SOMEBODY WHO'S BEEN ON THE JUDGING SIDE OF IT AND LISTENED TO ROOMS OF STUDENTS, AND SOMETIMES UPWARDS OF 120 STUDENTS IN ONE ROOM.

IT CAN BE REALLY DAUNTING TO BE LIKE, MY GOSH, I HEAR 80 SOPRANOS THAT SOUND THE SAME.

THEY JUST HAVE TO FIND THAT EXTRA SPARK AND THAT EXTRA DIG TO PULL SOMETHING OUT OF THAT MUSIC THAT TRULY MOVES THE PEOPLE THAT ARE JUDGING THEM AND PROVIDE A REASON TO PUT THEM IN THE TOP LAYER, AND SOMETIMES THAT CAN JUST BE SO HARD.

WE WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE SEVEN FRIEND HIGH SCHOOL BAND STUDENTS WHO ARE RECENTLY SELECTED FOR THE TEXAS ALL-STATE MUSIC ENSEMBLE.

NOW AGAIN, THIS IS ONE OF THE HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL HONORS FOR A HIGH SCHOOL MUSICIAN AND ONLY THE TOP 2.6% OF MUSICIANS WHO INITIALLY AUDIT BECOME ALL-STATE MUSICIANS AND WE HAD SEVEN.

ALL THESE MUSICIANS JUST RECENTLY PERFORMED AT THE TEXAS ALL-STATE ENSEMBLE IN SAN ANTONIO ON FEBRUARY 10TH.

TONIGHT WE HAVE FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR SCOTT CARTER TO HELP US RECOGNIZE THE STUDENTS. SCOTT?

>> WELL, GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP CELEBRATE THESE 2024 ALL-STATE BAND MEMBERS.

AS YOU HEARD, THEY ARE RECOGNIZED AS THE HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL HONOR THAT A HIGH SCHOOL MUSICIAN CAN ACHIEVE.

THE FRIENDSHIP BAND PROGRAM HAS A LONG LEGACY OF TALENTED STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR THE TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION ALL-STATE MEMBERSHIP AND THIS YEAR IS NO DIFFERENT.

IN FACT, THIS IS THE MOST ALL-STATE BAND MEMBERS WE'VE HAD SINCE WE HAVE ENTERED THE 6A CLASSIFICATION.

STUDENTS SELECTED TO PERFORM IN THE ALL-STATE CONCERTS HAVE COMPETED THROUGH AUDITIONS TO QUALIFY AT THE STATE LEVEL.

EIGHTEEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE STUDENTS ARE SELECTED THROUGH A PROCESS THAT BEGIN WITH OVER 70,000 STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE STATE VYING FOR THIS HONOR TO PERFORM IN ONE OF 18 ENSEMBLES.

THIS COMPETITIVE PROCESS BEGINS THROUGHOUT THE STATE IN AUDITIONS HOSTED BY 33 TMEA REGIONS.

WE ARE REGION 16.

A SELECT GROUP OF MUSICIANS ADVANCES FROM THEIR REGION TO COMPETE AGAINST MUSICIANS AT OTHER AREAS IN THE EIGHT TMEA AREA COMPETITIONS.

THEN THE HIGHEST RANKING MUSICIANS JUDGED AT THE AREA COMPETITION QUALIFIED TO PERFORM AT THE TMEA ALL-STATE MUSIC GROUPS.

OUR STUDENTS, AS YOU HEARD, ARE PART OF THE TOP 2.6% OF THE MUSICIANS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS TO BECOME ALL-STATE MUSICIANS.

A WEEK AGO, THESE ALL-STATE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A FOUR DAYS OF REHEARSALS DIRECTED BY NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED CONDUCTORS DURING THE TMEA CLINIC AND CONVENTION.

THEIR PERFORMANCES IN SAN ANTONIO FOR THOUSANDS OF ATTENDEES WAS AN EXTRAORDINARY EVENT, AS WELL AS AN EXPERIENCE THEY WILL TREASURE FOR A LIFETIME.

WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT CONCERNS ABOUT THE FUTURE AND JUST WHERE ARE THESE KIDS HEADED? WELL, THESE KIDS ARE HEADED, THEY'RE ALREADY LEADERS, AND THEY'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE LEADERS AND IN MY ESTIMATION, HAVE MORE INFLUENCE OVER MORE THINGS AND MORE PEOPLE IN YEARS TO COME.

EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM KNOWS AND I CERTAINLY KNOW, THAT WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS IS LEADERS WHO ARE CONSCIENTIOUS AND WHO ARE KIND AND WHO HAVE INTEGRITY, AND WHO CARE ABOUT THINGS LIKE JUSTICE AND EQUITY AND ALL OF THE THINGS.

THEY ALSO ARE VERY CAREFUL WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THINGS.

WE DO COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK, WE PACK FOOD, BACK PACKS, AND THEN THEY MAKE BLANKETS.

THOSE BLANKETS ARE GIVEN TO UMC, HAS A CLINIC THAT SPECIALIZES FOR PATIENTS THAT ARE GOING THROUGH CHEMOTHERAPY AND THEY'RE TREATING THE SYMPTOMS AT THAT CLINIC.

THIS GROUP MAKES THOSE BLANKETS AND THEN THEY'RE PASSED OUT TO CANCER PATIENTS.

THEY ALSO ADVISE ME ON THINGS THAT ARE JUST HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

HERE'S WHY THEY ADVISE ME, ONE BECAUSE THEY'RE REALLY SMART AND TWO, THEY GIVE ME A STUDENT PERSPECTIVE.

I TOLD Y'ALL THIS WAS THAT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO THAT MY 40TH HIGH SCHOOL REUNION IS THIS SUMMER, AND SO WHEN I CAME BACK ON 40 YEARS AGO, I CAN STILL REMEMBER BARELY, BUT I DID NOT HAVE IT TOGETHER LIKE THESE KIDS HAVE IT TOGETHER.

I THINK THAT'S PART OF THE SERVE MODES, SOMETHING THAT WE BELIEVE IN, IN FRIENDSHIP.

I THINK THAT GOES A LONG WAY.

WE'VE GONE ALSO AND PRODUCED A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER.

AS OUR FACULTY AND STAFF, WITH THE HELP OF THE BUSINESS OFFICE, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE THAT MONEY THAT WAS ALLOCATED FOR THAT POSITION AND BE ABLE TO PUT IT BACK TO OUR STAFF.

THIS WAS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO GROW AND LEAD.

BUT THEN ALSO FOR A CHANCE FOR OUR NEW TEACHERS TO HAVE SOMEBODY, MENTOR A LITTLE.

NOW AGAIN, ANOTHER THING WITH THIS MENTOR PROGRAM, WE WENT THROUGH AND GAVE OUR MENTEES TWO DAYS OFF.

BECAUSE AGAIN, IT'S TIME.

AS WE MAKE THE TEAMS FOR NEXT YEAR, THEY'LL ALREADY HAVE A ROADMAP TO JUMP INTO THAT WORK THAT WE'VE ALREADY CRITICALLY LOOKED AT.

SO FAR IN THE LENS IT'S VERY HELPFUL BECAUSE WE'RE IN THE LENS OF THE WORK THAT'S GOING ON, AND SO WE KNOW WHAT IT'LL BE BUILDING ON.

TEACHERS WERE EXCITED TO HAVE THAT VERY SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY TRAINING TIME WITH THOSE EXPERTS.

THE MEDIA SPECIALISTS WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT TOO AND GOT TO CUSTOMIZE WHAT IT WAS.

THAT'S HAPPENING NOW.

THAT IS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT WILL HAPPEN UNDER THIS.

MICHELLE'S TEAM HAS DONE A TON OF WORK DIGGING INTO THIS AND BUILDING OUT A PLAN THAT WILL NOT JUST TRAIN NEW HIRES OR STAFF COMING BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, BUT THAT WE'LL LOOK AT ALL OF THESE THINGS GOING FORWARD AND HOW WE CAN CONTINUE TO TOOL UP OUR STAFF AND SUPPORT THEM AS WE GO THROUGHOUT A YEAR, WHETHER THEY'RE A BRAND NEW TEACHER, NEW TO THE DISTRICT, OR A RETURNING STAFF.

THEN THE OTHER ONE I'D LIKE TO MENTION TO YOU IS ONE THAT YOU'VE HEARD A LITTLE BIT ABOUT FROM CRAIG THOMPSON WHEN HE DID HIS COUNSELING DISTRICT EFFECTIVENESS REPORT, PRE-K THROUGH 12TH GRADE TIERED INSTRUCTIONAL CONTINUUM FOR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

THESE TWO THINGS THAT YOU SEE HERE ARE EXISTING PROGRAMS. WE HAVE HOPE SQUAD OF OUR SECONDARY CAMPUSES, WHICH IS SUICIDE PREVENTION.

THAT IS PEER-LED STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED IN THE HOPE SQUAD.

THEN THE OTHER SECOND STEP IN OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES, AND IT'S INTEGRATED INTO CLASSROOMS, BRINGING THOSE SPECIFIC LESSONS.

THIS TEAM HAS DUG INTO COUNSELING DATA, INTO REFERRALS AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE TO REALLY SEE WHAT DAYS OF THE WEEK, WHAT TIMES OF THE YEAR DO WE NEED MORE SUPPORT THAN OTHERS AND HOW CAN WE CUSTOMIZE WHAT WE'RE DOING TO BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE USING SOME OF THAT DATA.

THEN THEY HAVE ALSO SENT SURVEYS OUT DISTRICT WIDE AND SURVEYED OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR SHACK COMMITTEE AND SOME OTHERS TO SEE WHAT ARE TEACHERS SAYING THEY REALLY THINK THE NEEDS ARE, WHAT ARE COMMUNITIES SAYING WHAT THEY THINK THE NEEDS ARE? THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS BUT THE BEGINNINGS OF THE PLAN THAT THEY WILL COME OUT WITH THEMING WHAT WE DO MONTHLY AT A CAMPUS LEVEL AND ALLOWING COUNSELORS AND OTHERS THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS AND OTHERS TO FIGURE OUT THE PROGRAMMING THAT WILL FIT WITHIN THAT CAMPUS UNDER A THEME THAT WILL WEAVE ITS WAY THROUGH ALL OF FRENSHIP ISD.

A SNEAK PEEK THAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT WITH THIS ONE, A FUTURE YEAR 3 GOAL WILL BE ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, AND THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR THAT TO FIT IN THOSE THEMES AS WELL.

THIS NEXT ITEM PERTAINS TO SENATE BILL 763 FROM THE 88TH TEXAS LEGISLATURE.

THIS SENATE BILL REQUIRES THE BOARD TO TAKE A RECORD VOTE ON THE INVOLVEMENT OF CHAPLAINS IN OUR SCHOOLS.

LET ME JUST BACK UP AND SAY THAT FRENSHIP HAS ALWAYS ALLOWED CHAPLAINS AMONG A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS TO VOLUNTEER IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ACCORDANCE WITH OUR GKC LOCAL POLICY WHICH JUST MAKE SURE WE VET THOSE INDIVIDUALS AND PROVIDE PROPER BACKGROUNDS FOR THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE SAFE FOR OUR KIDS AND WE WANT TO CONTINUE THAT.

AGAIN, WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? BECAUSE THEY'RE REQUIRING US TO HAVE A RECORD VOTE ON HOW WE'RE GOING TO INCORPORATE THOSE VOLUNTEERS.

YOU HAVE A RESOLUTION IN YOUR BOARD PACKET THAT CAN ARTICULATE HOW WE FEEL THAT WE CAN BEST UTILIZE THOSE VOLUNTEERS.

IN THERE IT SAYS THAT WE WANT TO CONTINUE FOR CHAPLAINS TO BE INVOLVED IN VOLUNTEER.

ALSO IT SAYS THAT WE WANT TO CONTINUE FOR OUR COUNSELORS TO BE CERTIFIED.

WE FEEL LIKE OUR STUDENTS DESERVE THE ABSOLUTE BEST.

IN THIS CASE, IT MEANS HAVING THE MOST HIGHLY TRAINED AND CERTIFIED PEOPLE AND THAT INCLUDES COUNSELORS IN THIS SITUATION.

THESE COUNSELORS HAVE EXTENSIVE TRAINING AND SPECIFIC TRAINING AS DO CHAPLAINS AND PASTORS, AND ALL OTHER VOLUNTEERS.

WE SURE DON'T WANT TO MINIMIZE ANY TRAINING FROM THOSE STAFF, THOSE PEOPLE.

IN FACT, WE WANT TO HOPEFULLY UTILIZE ALL THEIR STRENGTHS, BUT WE WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND WHERE WE DO THAT.

THIS RESOLUTION JUST AGAIN STATES WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO ALLOW THEM TO VOLUNTEER IN OUR SCHOOLS FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR KIDS AND STAFF.

WE WANT OUR COUNSELORS TO CONTINUE TO BE CERTIFIED COUNSELORS.

THEN WE ALSO BUILD IN TWO BAD WEATHER DAYS.

THOSE FALL ON APRIL 18TH, WHICH IS GOOD FRIDAY, WHICH IS WHAT WE'VE HISTORICALLY DONE AND THEN THAT LAST FRIDAY BEFORE GRADUATION, WHICH WOULD BE MAY 23RD.

THAT'S GOING TO BE THE SAME ON BOTH OF THOSE DRAFTS.

THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE IS MADE UP OF PARENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

WE ALSO HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL 15 CAMPUSES.

THEN WE HAVE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION.

THAT COMMITTEE MET IN EARLY JANUARY AND FINALIZED TWO DRAFTS THAT YOU SEE IN FRONT OF YOU THAT WE PUT OUT TO THE PUBLIC THROUGH A SURVEY ON JANUARY 18TH TO THE 24TH.

REALLY THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE THAT YOU'LL SEE IS IN DRAFT A, WE HAD PRESIDENT'S DAY AND TRUE HOLIDAY.

IN DRAFT B, IT WAS A STAFF DEVELOPMENT STUDENT HOLIDAY.

THEN IN DRAFT A, STAFF HAD A THREE DAY WEEKEND FOR EASTER.

THEN IN DRAFT B, IT IS A FOUR DAY WEEKEND FOR ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF.

THROUGH THAT SURVEY, WE HAD CLOSE TO 1,600 PEOPLE TAKE THE SURVEY.

OF THAT, ABOUT 60% WERE PARENTS, 38% WERE STAFF.

AGAIN, SOMETIMES YOU MAY HAVE STAFF THAT IDENTIFY AS PARENTS, AND SOMETIMES THEY'LL IDENTIFY AS STAFF.

THEN AT THE END OF THE WEEK, 75% VOTED IN FAVOR OF DRAFT B.

AGAIN, THAT WAS THE ONE THAT MORE CLOSELY RESEMBLES THE CALENDAR THAT WE HAVE THIS SCHOOL YEAR WITH PRESIDENT'S DAY AS A STAFF DEVELOPMENT STUDENT HOLIDAY.

THEN THE FOUR DAY WEEKEND, WHICH WAS VERY POPULAR AMONG THE PARENTS AND STAFF FOR EASTER.

BUT AS FAR AS THE START DAYS AND THE END DAYS, THE THANKSGIVING BREAK, WINTER BREAK, AND SPRING BREAK, THOSE WERE ALL VERY SIMILAR.

THEN THEY ALSO ALIGNED WITH LEANDER ISD.

SOME OF THE FEEDBACK WE'VE HEARD IN THE PAST IS THEY LIKE WHEN THE THREE BIG SCHOOL DISTRICTS TRY TO HAVE VERY SIMILAR CALENDARS, IT'S JUST EASIER ON FAMILIES THAT WAY.
