[A. Call to Order]

[00:00:06]

>> IT'S BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE QUORUM IS PRESENT.

THIS MEETING HAS BEEN DULY CALLED AND NOTICE OF THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CLOSE TO THE TIME AS MATTERS REQUIRED BY LAW.

THEREFORE AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES, I NOW CALL THIS MEETING OF TRUSTEES TO ORDER.

SHAWN, WOULD YOU MIND LEADING US AN INVITATION, PLEASE, SIR?

>> YES. PRAY WITH US.

LORD, WE JUST COME TO YOU WITH A SPIRIT OF THANKFULNESS, GRATITUDE THAT YOU SURROUNDED US WITH SO MANY INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE HERE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THIS DISTRICT.

WE JUST ASKED YOU TO CONTINUE TO BLESS US AND GUIDE US WITH YOUR HAND.

WE ASK YOU FOR THE WISDOM, PATIENCE, PERSEVERANCE TO DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO MAKE THIS DISTRICT BETTER.

IN YOUR NAME WE PRAY. AMEN.

>> AMEN. THANK YOU, SIR.

>> Y'ALL PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE AMERICAN FLAG.

>> ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

>> THANK YOU. YOU MAY BE SEATED. MS. [INAUDIBLE]?

>> YES, SIR.

>> THIS ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES.

[G.1. Humanities Texas 2024 Outstanding Early-Career Teaching Award]

IT'S RECOGNITION, SO I'M GOING TO TURN THE FLOOR OVER TO MS. [INAUDIBLE].

>> THANK YOU, MR. DRAPER.

EVEN THOUGH SCHOOL'S OUT, WE STILL HAVE PLENTY OF RECOGNITION, SO WE'RE GOING TO HOP RIGHT IN.

FIRST, WE'LL HAVE DR. CHRISTOPHER VASQUEZ-WRIGHT COME UP ALONG WITH MALLI TRAVIS. YOU'RE GOING TO COME UP RIGHT HERE.

WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE DR. CHRISTOPHER VASQUEZ-WRIGHT ON RECEIVING THE HUMANITIES TEXAS 2024 OUTSTANDING EARLY-CAREER TEACHING AWARD.

THIS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD RECOGNIZES THE EXEMPLARY CONTRIBUTIONS OF HUMANITIES TEACHERS AND TEXAS SCHOOLS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THREE OR FEWER YEARS OF TEACHING.

NOW DR. VASQUEZ-WRIGHT, HE WAS NEW TO FRENSHIP THIS YEAR AND TAUGHT DUAL LANGUAGE SOCIAL STUDIES AT FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL.

PRIOR TO THAT, HE SERVED IN ROLES SUCH AS THE DIRECTOR OF THE LANGUAGE LABORATORY AND RESEARCH CENTER AT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY.

AS THE OUTSTANDING EARLY-CAREER TEACHING AWARD RECIPIENT, HE WILL RECEIVE $5,000 IN RECOGNITION OF HIS ACHIEVEMENTS, AND ADDITIONALLY, FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL WILL RECEIVE $1,000 TO PURCHASE HUMANITIES INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS TO HELP IMPROVE HUMANITIES PROGRAMS AND COURSES.

THIS FALL, HUMANITIES TEXAS WILL ALSO COORDINATE A FORMAL AWARD CEREMONY AT FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL.

TONIGHT, WE HAVE SOCIAL STUDIES COORDINATOR MALLI TRAVIS, WHO ALSO RUNS OUR FIRST YEAR TEACHER ACADEMY WHO NOMINATED DR. VASQUEZ-WRIGHT FOR THE AWARD.

SHE'S HERE TO HELP US RECOGNIZE HIS ACHIEVEMENTS. MALLI.

>> WORKING WITH DR. VASQUEZ-WRIGHT IN NOT ONLY OUR FIRST YEAR TEACHER PROGRAM, BUT THROUGH OUR SOCIAL STUDIES PROGRAM, JUST HIS WORK IN THE CLASSROOM HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL AND BEING ABLE TO GET THIS HISTORY AWARD, THIS HUMANITIES AWARD, NOT ONLY TO WEST TEXAS.

WE'VE NEVER HAD THIS AWARD IN WEST TEXAS, BUT TO HAVE IT HERE IN FRENSHIP IS PHENOMENAL AND WE ARE ECSTATIC.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO DR. WRIGHT BECAUSE HE HAS A FEW WORDS HE'D LIKE TO SAY TO THE BOARD.

>> THANK YOU. BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING, I MUST ACKNOWLEDGE AN AMAZING WOMAN SITTING BEHIND ME.

IT'S MY WIFE [LAUGHTER] AND IF I DON'T, I'LL BE IN TROUBLE.

[LAUGHTER] BUT SHE SUPPORTED ME THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, OF EARNING TWO MASTER'S DEGREES AND A PHD, RAISING FIVE KIDS, WHICH INCLUDES ME.

THE BOLD MOVE I MADE, THE CAREER SHIFT, LEADING A HIGHER EDUCATION SO I CAN SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SECONDARY EDUCATION.

IT'S ABOUT THREE MINUTES. I WANT TO EXPRESS TO YOU ALL HOW GRATEFUL I'M TO BE HERE.

IT'S BEEN AN ADVENTURE COMING HERE, TEACHING TEENAGERS.

OVER THE YEAR, THOUGH, I'VE ENJOYED THE FREEDOM TO WORK CREATIVELY AS AN APPLIED LINGUIST AND EDUCATOR.

I'VE BEEN ABLE TO EXPERIMENT WITH INNOVATIVE TEACHING AND SPECIFICALLY IN ARTS INTEGRATED LEARNING.

IN THE DUAL LANGUAGE CLASS WE MADE PALEOLITHIC CAMPFIRE STORIES.

WE WROTE THE MAP AND CRUMBLED UP BROWN PAPER, AND THEN DREW CAVE DRAWINGS WITH THE GRID OF THE CHARCOAL AND THE STUDENTS GOT SO INTO IT AND EMOTIONALLY ENGAGED THAT THEY WOULD RUB THEIR FACES AS IF THEY WERE WORKING [LAUGHTER] AND WE JUST HAD SO MUCH FUN.

WE ALSO HAD A SIMULATION OF A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DISASTER, AND AFTERWARDS, THEY WROTE THESE EMOTIONAL DIARY ACCOUNTS AS IF THEY WERE SURVIVORS OF CHERNOBYL.

THEY LEARNED EMPATHY FOR REFUGEES.

ALSO WHEN WE LEARNED ABOUT AFRICA, SOME OF THE STUDENTS, I GAVE THE FREEDOM TO WRITE RAP MUSIC ABOUT THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF AFRICA,

[00:05:05]

AND THEY PERFORMED THEM IN THE CLASS.

I'M SO PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS OF HOW THEY'RE LEARNING.

ARTS INTEGRATED LEARNING IS VERY ENGAGING AND IT ACTIVATES THEIR HIGHER PROCESS, HIGHER ORDER THINKING AND INTRINSIC MOTIVATION, AND IT'S JUST FUN, AND IT'S INTERDISCIPLINARY.

IT BECAME I WAS RECOGNIZED BY HUMANITIES TEXAS, BUT I WANT TO MAKE CLEAR THAT THIS RECOGNITION WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE AND I'M SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, THE VERY COMPETENT SERVICE MINDED PEOPLE HERE WHO SUPPORTED.

I KNOW THAT IS TRUE THAT ALL MY EFFORT IS BEING RECOGNIZED, BUT IT'S THE SERVICE MINDED PEOPLE HERE, THAT HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE FOR THREE REASONS THOUGH.

FIRST, IT'S THE POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT.

THANKS TO YOU, MR. HERNANDEZ, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU, SIR.

YOU'VE HELPED CREATE A WORK ENVIRONMENT WITH YOU AND THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS A MUTUAL RESPECT.

ENCOURAGING AND GRACIOUS FOR THE LITTLE ERRORS I MAKE AS A NEW FIRST YEAR TEACHER.

SECONDLY, IS A TOP NOTCH PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT THAT I RECEIVED HERE.

I'M KNEW AT TEACHING TEENAGERS, AND IT'S BEEN ROUGH.

THE FIRST SIX WEEKS WERE CRAZY.

[LAUGHTER] MY FOUR PERIOD CLASS IS IN THE DAILYS.

FIVE BOYS WHO'VE KNOW EACH OTHER PROBABLY SINCE KINDERGARTEN, THEY WOULD THROW BOTTLES ACROSS THE ROOM AND IT WAS CHAOS, BUT I REACHED OUT TO MS. TRAVIS AND MS. ATHRO AND ALSO [INAUDIBLE] MY IT COACH, TEACH TEXAS.

YES. FROM TAKING THEIR ADVICE, I CREATED A MORE STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT AND A CARING RELATIONSHIP, GOT TO KNOW THESE KIDS.

THEY TRANSFORMED FROM THROWING BOTTLES ACROSS THE ROOM AND DISRUPTING THE CLASS TO HELP ME PASS OUT PAPERS.

THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP ME TAKE ATTENDANCE.

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, THEY WERE TEASING A STUDENT WHO WAS DIFFERENT THAN THEMSELVES, AND THEN THEY TRANSFORMED.

THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO INCLUDE HIM IN THEIR GROUP AND HELP HIM LEARN.

I'M VERY PROUD OF THEM AND THEY'RE BECOMING TRULY EDUCATED STUDENTS, AND A TRUE EDUCATION IS DEVELOPING GOOD CHARACTER.

THAT'S WHAT MARTIN LUTHER KING SAID, A TRUE EDUCATION IS INTELLIGENCE PLUS CHARACTER.

WE WORK ON THE WHOLE PERSON HERE.

THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT FRENSHIP.

ALSO, THE THIRD FINAL REASON THAT I BELIEVE THIS AWARD IS FOR FRENSHIP, IT'S FOR THE COMMUNITY, IS THE FACT THAT WE ARE COMMUNITY WITH A SHARED VISION.

NONE OF THIS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF EACH OTHER.

WE SUPPORT THE STUDENTS THROUGH SUPPORTING EACH OTHER.

WE HELP THEM GROW BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND MORALLY.

WE HELP THE WHOLE PERSON.

ALSO FOR OUR DUAL LANGUAGE STUDENTS, THIS PROGRAM IS AMAZING.

IT'S A JEWEL IN WEST TEXAS.

WE'RE HELPING THEM BECOME BILITERATE, SO THEY CAN BE COMPETITIVE IN THE WORKFORCE AND MAINTAIN THEIR HERITAGE.

THIS IS SOMETHING TO BE VERY PROUD OF AND THAT'S THE REALLY POLLING FACTOR WHY I'M HERE.

TO CONCLUDE, I JUST WANT TO EXPRESS MY SINCERE GRATITUDE TO ALL OF YOU.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT, AND I'M VERY PROUD TO BE HERE WITH YOU. THANK YOU.

>> DR. VAZQUEZ, CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE]

>> I'LL TAKE A PICTURE OF YOU.

1, 2, 3. PERFECT. THANK YOU.

>> DR. VAZQUEZ, CONGRATULATIONS.

BUT BEFORE YOU LEAVE, WOULD YOU MIND INTRODUCING YOUR OTHER SPECIAL GUESTS?

>> MY FAMILY, SHE JUST GRADUATED.

THIS IS BRIANNA, AND THEN AYANNA, SHE WAS ACTUALLY MY STUDENT.

>> I'LL ASK YOU LATER. [LAUGHTER]

>> THEN THERE'S MAX AND DIANNA AND THIS BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, BEA.

BEA IS BEAUTIFUL. THEN MY PARENTS, JERRY AND BECKY. [APPLAUSE]

>> I DON'T KNOW WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO CHANGE TO SECONDARY EDUCATION, BUT I WILL SAY THIS, THAT I'M VERY GRATEFUL THAT YOU DID.

>> I CAN TO EXPLAIN THAT.

A STUDENT ASKED ME THAT YOU'RE OVER QUALIFIED FOR THIS JOB.

WHY ARE YOU HERE? I TOLD HIM, THIS IS NOT A JOB.

THIS IS A CALLING. THAT'S WHY I'M HERE.

I FELT A VERY STRONG SOMETHING, SOMETHING TOUCHED MY HEART.

[00:10:04]

YOU NEED TO GO TO PUBLIC EDUCATION. THAT'S WHY I CAME.

>> WE'LL TALK LATER.

>> SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME.

[LAUGHTER] I WAS A THERAPIST IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR AND CAME HERE. WE'LL EXCHANGE.

>> HIS WIFE IS JOINING US AT WESTWIND.

>> YOU ARE?

>> YES.

>> MY GOD.

>> DR. VAZQUEZ, I'D LIKE TO TELL YOU, JUST SITTING HERE LISTENING TO YOU, YOU'RE TRULY PROBABLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST AMBASSADORS THAT WE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE.

I APPRECIATE YOU IN MORE WAYS THAN I CAN POSSIBLY DESCRIBE PERFECTLY TO YOU.

BUT SITTING HERE WATCHING YOU GETTING THIS AWARD, PUT YOU UP ON THAT PLATFORM AND TO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY JUST THEN IS VERY COMPELLING AND IT TOUCHES A LOT OF PEOPLE RIGHT IN THE HEART, SO I DO APPRECIATE THAT, SIR.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE]

>> Y'ALL CAN STAY AS LONG AS YOU WANT, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

[LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING] BUT DO WHAT YOUR DAD SAYS,.

>> AND YOUR MOM. [LAUGHTER] UP NEXT, WE HAVE ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER THAT WE'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE,

[G.2. LCU Distinguished Educator and Excellence in Teaching Award]

ROEL SANCHEZ FROM TERRA VISTA.

IF YOU'LL COME UP, ALONG WITH DR. RYAN SMITH.

ROEL SANCHEZ IS THE TERRA VISTA SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR, AND HE'S A RECIPIENT OF THE LOVETT CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING.

BACK IN NOVEMBER, 15 FRENSHIP EDUCATORS, ONE FROM EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS WERE NOMINATED BY THEIR CAMPUS TO BE NAMED ONE OF LOVETT CHRISTIANS DISTINGUISHED EDUCATORS.

NOW, THROUGH THE SELECTION PROCESS, MR. ROEL WAS CHOSEN TO REPRESENT THE DISTRICT AS FRENSHIP ISD'S OVERALL NOMINEE FOR THE LCU DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR.

THEN IN APRIL, DURING AN AWARD CEREMONY AT LCU, HE WAS RECOGNIZED AS A DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR ALONG WITH SIX OTHERS FROM AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

DURING THAT RECOGNITION, HE WAS ANNOUNCED AS ONE OF THE OVERALL WINNERS AND THE RECIPIENT OF THE LCU AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING.

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THAT WE'VE HAD A FRENSHIP EDUCATOR RECEIVE THAT AWARD.

NOW THE AWARD IS PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO REMARKABLE EDUCATORS IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR DILIGENT EFFORTS IN EDUCATING TOMORROW'S GENERATION AND AS ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE TANGIBLE IMPACT THAT THEY MAKE THROUGH THE LONG HOURS AND DEDICATED COMMITMENT TO THEIR STUDENTS.

AS A RECIPIENT OF THE AWARD, HE ALSO RECEIVES $1,000.

FRIENDSHIP ISD'S DIRECTOR OF FINE ARTS, DR. RYAN SMITH IS HERE TO HELP US RECOGNIZE HIM.

>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING.

IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO HAVE VALIDATION FROM ORGANIZATIONS OUTSIDE OF OUR DISTRICT WHO ALSO RECOGNIZE THE AMAZING INSTRUCTORS WE HAVE HERE IN FRENSHIP ISD.

ROEL SANCHEZ HAS BEEN INSPIRING OUR STUDENTS AT TERRA VISTA FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND HAS AMAZING RESULTS WITH THE TVMS BAND.

ROEL'S DEDICATION AND CREATIVITY IS EVIDENT IN HIS OWN CREATED CURRICULUM FOR HIS COURSES AND HIS KEEN ABILITY TO PLAY EVERY SINGLE BAND INSTRUMENT.

MORE THAN ANY OTHER TEACHER THAT I HAVE WITNESSED, ROEL HAS THE UNIQUE ABILITY TO REACH EACH STUDENT INDIVIDUALLY.

EVERY STUDENT IN THIS BAND PROGRAM FEEL SEEN AND VALUE FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL ABILITIES.

ONE OF THE CLEVEREST RELATIONSHIP BUILDERS IS THEIR SECRET, WELL, IT'S BECOMING NOT SO SECRET ANYMORE, CATCH PHRASE BOO.

EVERY TIME THE DIRECTORS AND STUDENTS SEE EACH OTHER IN THE HALLWAYS OR OUTSIDE THE CLASS, THEY SAY BOO TO EACH OTHER.

BOO STANDS FOR BE OVERTLY OUTSTANDING.

MR. SANCHEZ EXPLAINS WHAT THEY REALLY ARE SAYING IS, I SEE YOU, AND I WANT YOU TO KEEP BEING AWESOME.

ONE OF THE BEST QUOTES FROM A PAST STUDENT OF HIS KIANA ALDACO STATES, "AS A MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT, I WAS NOT VERY CONFIDENT.

I WANTED TO GIVE UP WHEN LIFE AND MUSIC GOT HARD.

MR. SANCHEZ REFUSED TO LET ME GIVE UP AND HELPED ME TURN MY MISTAKES INTO FEEDBACK AND GROW TOWARDS SUCCESS." WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF ROEL SANCHEZ BEING AWARDED THE LCU DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR AWARD.

BOO, MR. SANCHEZ.

>> BOO. [LAUGHTER].

>> CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE]

>> THEN TAKE A PICTURE.

DON'T RUN OFF BECAUSE I'M GOING TO ASK YOU A QUESTION.

>> 1, 2, 3. PERFECT.

>> ROEL, TELL ME ABOUT YOU LEARNED TO PLAY EACH INSTRUMENT SO YOU COULD BE A BETTER BAND DIRECTOR, ISN'T THAT RIGHT?

>> YEAH.

>> NOT MANY PEOPLE DO THAT.

>> IT'S BECAUSE WHERE I STARTED WAS IN ROMA ISD, AND THERE THEY TEACH DIFFERENTLY.

YOU HAVE A INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST FOR EVERY INSTRUMENT THAT FOLLOWS THE STUDENT FROM SIX THROUGH 12.

I WAS A TROMBONE INSTRUCTOR FROM SIXTH GRADERS ALL THE WAY THROUGH 12TH GRADE.

YOU CAN DESIGN YOUR CURRICULUM AND YOU CAN MOVE THINGS AROUND AND HELP THE STUDENTS,

[00:15:01]

HELP TARGET ALL THEIR WEAKNESSES SO THAT BY THE TIME THEY HIT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS, YOU'RE PRODUCING ALL STATERS, YOU'RE PRODUCING WELL ROUNDED MUSICIANS THAT CAN READ, THAT CAN PLAY, THAT HAVE NO FUNCTIONAL DISABILITIES, THEY HAVE NO WEAKNESSES, SO STRONGER MUSICIANS.

WELL, WHEN MY WIFE SHE GRADUATED WITH HER PHD FROM DICK SM AND SHE GOT A JOB WITH I KNOW [LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING]

>> THAT'S WHY YOU GOT THE MAROON SHIRT ON.

>> WELL, SHE GRADUATED, SHE GOT HER PHD, AND SHE GOT IMMEDIATE POST DOC POSITION WITH THE USDA.

SHE WAS LIKE, WELL, WHERE SHOULD WE GO? WHAT SHOULD WE DO? HER OPTIONS WERE MISSOURI, AND I TOLD HER, LISTEN, I'M A BAND DIRECTOR.

I'M IN MY DREAM JOB RIGHT NOW AND I WANT TO STAY IN TEXAS BECAUSE TEXAS IS THE BAND STATE.

SHE WAS LIKE, HOW'S LUBBOCK SOUNDING? I WAS LIKE, I'VE BEEN THROUGH LUBBOCK ONCE, AND IT WAS ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHERE WE HAD MUD BALLS.

[LAUGHTER] I REMEMBER LEAVING LUBBOCK AND THAT LONG DRIVE AND I REMEMBER THINKING, I'M NEVER GOING BACK TO LUBBOCK.

[LAUGHTER] SURE ENOUGH, IT WAS ROUGHLY 15 YEARS LATER, WE END UP BACK IN LUBBOCK, AND I CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT LUBBOCK BECAUSE IT'S BEEN NICE.

IT'S BEEN WONDERFUL TO ME AND MY FAMILY.

I HAVE THREE CHILDREN, ME AND MY WIFE, WE CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE AREA.

WE'VE BECOME FLATLANDERS NOW.

>> THEN YOU DO ONE OTHER THING THAT MR. BRIDGES TOLD ME ABOUT THIS WHEN WE WERE AT THE CEREMONY.

I WAS LIKE, NO WAY. THAT CAN'T BE TRUE.

HE WAS LIKE, YEAH, SOMETIMES HE'LL COME TO WORK WITH A BLACK EYE OR SCRATCH.

>> IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

>> YES. WHAT IS HAPPENING THERE? TELL US ABOUT THAT ACTIVITY.

>> IT'S A FUN HOBBY.

>> WHAT'S IT CALLED?

>> I'M A JIU-JITSU. I PRESENT JIU-JITSU, I'M A BLUE BELT. IT'S GREAT FUN.

>> I MIGHT FIND YOU AN OPPONENT. [LAUGHTER] A SANCTIONED.

>> [BACKGROUND] THAT IS SO AMAZING.

WELL, I'M GLAD YOUR WIFE AND YOU CHOSE LUBBOCK AND CHOSE FRENSHIP, AND THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO.

WE APPRECIATE YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS.

>> THANK YOU. I'M GREATLY HONORED.

NOW THAT WE'VE BEEN SO FAR REMOVED, FROM APRIL WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENED AND GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS OF WRITING AND REFLECTING ON WHAT'S GOING ON, IT'S WHY ME? WHEN THERE'S THOUSANDS OF TEACHERS THAT ARE EQUALLY OR BETTER QUALIFIED FOR THIS AWARD.

IT'S DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THAT.

JUST WHY? NOW WALKING HERE, I SEE SOME OF MY FORMER STUDENTS HERE BEING AWARDED FOR THE AWESOME THINGS THAT THEY CONTINUE TO DO, AND IT BRINGS ME MORE OF A PRIDE IN THEM.

THE THINGS I SAY ABOUT BAND STUDENTS BEING THE BEST STUDENTS AND THE WORK ETHIC THAT WE LEARN THROUGH THIS ACTIVITY, THAT IS REAL, AND SEEING ALL STUDENTS HERE REMINDED ME OF THAT.

OH, YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.

[LAUGHTER] THESE KIDS ARE ALL STARS.

MAN, LOOK AT THE FUTURES THEY HAVE AHEAD OF THEM AND HOPEFULLY, THE THINGS THEY'VE LEARNED FROM ME AND THEIR TIME WITH ME, THREE YEARS THAT THEY'VE HAD WITH ME, IT WILL PAY OFF IN THEIR LIFETIME AND THEY WILL BE REWARDED BY THEIR WORK AND THE ETHICS THAT THEY PUT FORTH INTO ANYTHING THAT THEY CHOOSE TO DO. THAT'S THE BEST FEELING.

>> THEY WILL, AND THEY ARE.

>> THANK YOU, GUYS. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU.

>> UP NEXT, WE HAVE ANOTHER TERRA VISTA STAFF MEMBER WE'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE.

[G.3. TGCA Track and Field Middle School Coach of the Year]

IF I CAN GET COACH MEGAN YOUNG TO COME UP.

WE WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE TERRA VISTA MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS ATHLETIC COACH MEGAN YOUNG ON RECEIVING A STATEWIDE AWARD FOR HER EXCELLENCE IN COACHING.

MEGAN IS A RECIPIENT OF THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION, 5A, 6A TRACK AND FIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL COACH OF THE YEAR.

NOW, EACH YEAR, TGCA ACCEPTS NOMINATIONS FOR COACHES OF THE YEAR AWARDS TO CELEBRATE AND HIGHLIGHT HARDWORKING COACHES ACROSS THE STATE.

BEING NOMINATED AND SELECTED AS A TEXAS COACH OF THE YEAR IS AN INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT.

SHE WAS SELECTED AS A RECIPIENT OF THE AWARD OUT OF ALL NOMINATIONS FOR BOTH 5A AND 6A MIDDLE SCHOOL COACHES IN TEXAS.

NOW, COACH YOUNG JUST WRAPPED UP HER 19TH YEAR IN EDUCATION AND HER 10TH YEAR AT TERRA VISTA.

[00:20:02]

WE HAVE FRENSHIP ISD'S ATHLETIC DIRECTOR BRIAN GERLICH TO HELP RECOGNIZE HER ACHIEVEMENT.

>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING.

THIS IS QUITE AN AWARD.

THE BEST THING I THINK I LIKE ABOUT IT IS IT GOES THROUGH NOMINATIONS.

WE HAD A COACH WHO FOUGHT ENOUGH OF MEGAN TO SPEND THE TIME TO WRITE UP A REALLY NICE NOMINATION ABOUT HOW GREAT SHE IS AND ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT SHE DOES, AND THEN, OF COURSE, WAS SELECTED OVER I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY WERE SENT IN, BUT THERE WERE PROBABLY HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENT NOMINATIONS THAT WENT IN.

JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE IDEA, MEGAN IS A FORMER COLLEGE ATHLETE.

SHE THREW THE DISCUS AND SHOTPUT AT TEXAS TECH.

I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT YEARS.

[OVERLAPPING] [LAUGHTER]

>> HOLDS THE RECORD.

>> A RECORD?

>> SHE DOES.

>> [OVERLAPPING] BUT ANYBODY WHO'S EVER TRIED TO THROW A SHOT OR DISCUS, IT'S HARD, AND IT'S REALLY HARD.

THE SHOT PUT IS HEAVY FOR ONE THING, BUT THE DISCUS IS ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUE, AND IT'S ALL ABOUT FORM.

THAT WAS THE ONE THING MISTY WILLIAMS IS OUR GIRLS' COORDINATOR AT TERRA VISTA.

IS SHE HERE? [LAUGHTER] MISTY DID A REALLY GREAT JOB ON THE NOMINATION.

I WANTED TO MENTION A FEW THINGS THAT SHE SAID IN THERE.

SHE SAYS, MEGAN HAS A GREAT LOVE FOR TRACK AND FIELD, AND THE ATHLETES SHE COACHES AT TERRA VISTA.

TRACKING THEIR WEEKLY IMPROVEMENT AND COMPARING HOW THEY STAND BASED UPON THE COMPETITION IN THE AREA.

SHE PLANS ALL PRACTICES THAT THEY WILL GET THE MOST OUT OF THEIR ATHLETE AND ALLOW FOR THEM TO GET THE APPROPRIATE REST AND RECOVERY.

WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE MEGAN AT TERRA VISTA.

HER DESIRE TO IMPROVE AND GET BETTER EVERY DAY IS SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL.

SHE WOULD BE AN OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL TRACK COACH.

[LAUGHTER] BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW, SHE'S CHOSEN TO STAY AT TERRA VISTA AND WORK WITH THOSE YOUNG ATHLETES AND PREPARE THEM FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

WE ARE REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE SOMEBODY WITH HER KNOWLEDGE AND WITH HER SKILL LEVEL, AND JUST THE WAY SHE HANDLES KIDS, THE WAY SHE TREATS PEOPLE, AND JUST THE WAY SHE CONDUCTS HERSELF TO BE WORKING WITH OUR STUDENTS IN THIS DISTRICT.

MEGAN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON BEING THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION'S MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK COACH OF THE YEAR.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> WE'LL HAVE YOU ALL POP IN THE PICTURE WITH HER.

[BACKGROUND] 1, 2 , 3 [NOISE].

PERFECT.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> DID YOU BRING ANY SPECIAL GUESTS?

>> I BROUGHT MY HUSBAND [LAUGHTER].

>> YOU STAND UP. [LAUGHTER] BECAUSE SHE WAS VERY NICE ABOUT YOU.

HE DOESN'T WANT TO. WHO ELSE?

>> MY SON.

[BACKGROUND] [APPLAUSE] I THREW A DISCUS AND MY SON IS LEARNING HOW TO THROW A DISCUS.

WE TALK ABOUT DISCUS A LOT.

[LAUGHTER].

>> WELL, THANK YOU ALL FOR SHARING HER WITH US.

BECAUSE I KNOW IT TAKES UP LOTS OF TIME.

>> THEY GET TO HEAR ABOUT TRACK A LOT.

I TALK ABOUT TRACK AND THEN MY SON GETS TO HEAR IT.

>> I KNOW. MY HUSBAND'S NOT IN EDUCATION AND HE'S NOT A SUPERINTENDENT AND HE NEVER WANTS TO BE BECAUSE THAT'S ALL I USUALLY TALK ABOUT WHEN I GET HOME.

BUT YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU LOVE.

I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU'RE HERE. CONGRATULATIONS.

>> CONGRATS.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> WE HAVE ONE MORE STAFF RECOGNITION THAT WE'D LIKE TO DO.

[G.4. Perry Weather National Athletic Trainer Excellence Award]

DUSTIN RUSH, IF YOU'D COME UP.

WE WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE FRENSHIP ISD HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER DUSTIN RUSH ON RECEIVING THE PERRY WEATHER ATHLETIC TRAINER EXCELLENCE AWARD.

COACH RUSH WAS SELECTED AS THE WINNER OUT OF MORE THAN 800 NOMINATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

THIS IS A NATIONAL AWARD.

NOW, THE AWARD RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC TRAINER DEDICATED TO STUDENT ATHLETE WELL BEING.

IN ADDITION TO THIS RECOGNITION, HE'LL ALSO RECEIVE A $2,000 DONATION TO HIS PREFERRED SPORTS MEDICINE SCHOLARSHIP FUND OR CHARITY.

NOW, HE HAS MORE THAN 13 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO SAFEGUARDING THE WELL BEING OF STUDENT ATHLETES, AND HE STOOD OUT AMONG THE APPLICANTS ALONG WITH THE STORIES AND EXAMPLES THAT WERE SUBMITTED BY COACHES AND ADMINISTRATORS.

IN ADDITION TO HIS DEDICATION TO SERVING STUDENT ATHLETES, HE ALSO HAS ELEVATED THE STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WITH SEVERAL STUDENTS ADVANCING TO THE STATE COMPETITION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FRENSHIP'S HISTORY.

NOW, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR BRIAN GERLICH IS HERE TO HELP RECOGNIZE DUSTIN.

>> YOU GET TO HEAR FROM ME ONE MORE TIME.

THIS WAS REALLY A SPECIAL AWARD.

[00:25:03]

A LOT OF OUR COACHES TOOK THE TIME TO FILL OUT NOMINATIONS AGAIN AND SEND THEM IN, AND DUSTIN LOVES THE ATTENTION AS YOU CAN TELL.

[LAUGHTER] BUT WE HAD SO MANY OF THEM TALK ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT TRAINERS DO, AND YOU DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT A TRAINER UNTIL YOU NEED ONE.

YOU CAN BE AT A FOOTBALL GAME OR WHEREVER WE ARE, AND YOU GO OUT AND THERE'S BONES OR BLOOD, AND YOU GO, OH, MY GOSH, WHERE'S THE TRAINER? LET SOMEBODY TAKE CARE OF THIS.

THEY DON'T GET A WHOLE LOT OF ATTENTION.

THEY DON'T GET A LOT OF RECOGNITION AS THEY DESERVE UNTIL THEY'RE BADLY NEEDED.

WE'RE REALLY FORTUNATE HERE THAT WE'VE GOT A GUY LIKE THIS THAT'S WILLING TO DO WHATEVER NEEDS TO BE DONE NO MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS.

YOU CAN CALL THIS GUY AND HE'LL PICK THE PHONE UP.

THIS IS WHAT AND I WANTED TO READ THIS BECAUSE ONE OF OUR ADMINISTRATOR SAID THIS.

WHEN A STUDENT IS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR AN INJURY, COACH RUSH IS THE FIRST ONE THERE, BEDSIDE TO VISIT WITH THE STUDENT AND THE FAMILY TO MAKE SURE THEY ALL HAVE WHAT THEY NEED, AND THEY FEEL SUPPORTED BY FRENSHIP.

THIS ISN'T A ONE TIME DEAL.

COACH RUSH DOES THIS ALL THE TIME.

AS A FRENSHIP ADMINISTRATOR, I FIND COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT FRENSHIP FAMILIES FEEL SUPPORTED DURING SOME OF THE MOST DIFFICULT, TRAUMATIC TIMES OF THEIR LIFE.

NOT THAT ALL THE THINGS WE DEAL WITH ARE TRAUMATIC AT TIMES.

HE HANDLES ALL OF THE OTHER LITTLE THINGS TOO, BUT WHEN YOU NEED SOMETHING, WHEN YOU NEED TO GET IN TO SEE A DOCTOR, HE'S WILLING TO HELP.

WE'VE GOT KIDS UP THERE IN THE SUMMER THAT HE'S UP THERE WORKING WITH THEM, HELPING TO REHAB FROM ACL INJURIES OR SHOULDERS, OR ELBOWS, OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE.

HE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND.

FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT ALL TRAINERS DO, THEY'RE INVALUABLE, FROM THE INJURIES THEY DEAL WITH TO HELPING US WITH THE BAD WEATHER THAT COMES UP.

WE ALL HAVE THE LIGHTNING DETECTORS AND ALL THESE THINGS THAT WE ALL TRY TO KEEP TRACK OF.

NOW WE'VE GOT A NEW THING TO KEEP TRACK OF ACCORDING TO UIL WITH THE HEAT RELATED, THE WET BULB TEST.

>> I'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF THOSE ALERTS.

>> YES. WE'RE ON TOP OF IT.

[LAUGHTER]

>> LIKE WET BULB ALERT.

>> IT'S GUYS LIKE THIS THAT ARE KEEPING US UP TO DATE ON EVERYTHING, AND JUST MAKING SURE OUR KIDS ARE SAFE.

THERE'S NOBODY MORE DESERVING THAN DUSTIN FOR A RECOGNITION LIKE THIS.

AGAIN, WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE A GUY LIKE THIS IN OUR DISTRICT.

THE NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINER OF THE YEAR, DUSTIN RUSH.

[APPLAUSE].

>> I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING. BECAUSE I'M UNIQUELY QUALIFIED TO MAKE THIS COMMENT.

BECAUSE HAS TAKEN CARE OF A LOT OF THE PHILLIPS CHILDREN A LOT OF TIMES.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT AN ATHLETIC TRAINER DOES, KUDOS TO THE FOLKS IN THE BACK BACK HERE BECAUSE HE LIVES AT FRENSHIP ON ANY CAMPUS ANYWHERE AND HAVING HAD A KID GET HURT AT AN AWAY GAME AND DEALING WITH A QUALIFIED TRAINING STAFF FOR ANOTHER SCHOOL THAT'S NOTHING LIKE WHAT WE HAVE.

YOU REALIZE THAT YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO GO ANYWHERE THAT HE'S NOT WITH YOU.

THIS SUMMER, HOLDEN ASKED ME IF D. RUSH COULD JUST TRAVEL WITH US THIS SUMMER.

[LAUGHTER] HE DOES I THINK SOMETHING THAT WAS SAID ABOUT HE TAKES CARE OF THE WELL BEING OF THE KIDS BECAUSE THEY DON'T ALWAYS MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS BECAUSE THEY THINK THAT THEY'RE INVINCIBLE, AND SO THAT'S A HARD SPOT TO BE IN, AND HE REALLY DOES TAKE CARE OF OUR KIDS AND REALLY DOES THINK ABOUT THE LONG TERM, NOT JUST GETTING READY FOR TUESDAY OR FRIDAY OR SATURDAY OR WHATEVER.

AS A PARENT AND AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER, AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO BECAUSE IT DOESN'T GO UNNOTICED, BUT IT IS SOMETIMES A THANKLESS JOB AND A TOUGH JOB AND THE HOURS THAT YOU SPEND, AND WE'RE SUPER, SUPER, SUPER LUCKY TO HAVE YOU.

WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO.

>> DID YOU BRING [OVERLAPPING] YOUR FAMILY? WHO ARE YOUR SPECIAL GUESTS?

>> MY WIFE, KAYLIE, AND THEN MY TWO KIDS, KASEY AND BRYLON.

>> WORKING THE PHONE. [LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING]

>> IF I COULD SAY SOMETHING TOO FROM THE OTHER END.

MY DAUGHTER WAS A TRAINER.

I'LL CALL YOU D. RUSH BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT SHE CALLS YOU.

THE PROFOUND IMPACT YOU HAD ON LINDSAY WAS AWESOME.

SHE LOVED YOU LIKE YOU WERE HER DAD OR BROTHER OR WHATEVER, BUT SHE TALKS ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIME AND IS THANKS TO A LOT OF YOUR EFFORTS AND EVERYTHING, SHE LEAVES IN AUGUST TO GO TO PHYSICAL THERAPY SCHOOL AT HARDIN-SIMMONS.

A LOT OF THAT IS THE FACT THAT SHE WAS PART OF THIS OUTSTANDING TRAINING PROGRAM THAT YOU ARE PART OF, SO THANK YOU.

[00:30:01]

>> THANK YOU.

>> CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE]

>> NEXT UP, WE HAVE OUR SOFTBALL ATHLETES.

[G.5. Softball Academic All-State and All-State]

LEXI CLARK, AND PARENTS, IF Y'ALL WOULD LIKE TO GO IN THE BACK TO TAKE PICTURES, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO DO SO.

ANYBODY WANT TO TAKE PICTURES?

>> YES. [BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER]

>> FRENSHIP ISD WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE TWO STUDENT ATHLETES FROM THE FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM WHO RECEIVED STATE LEVEL AWARDS THIS SEASON.

WE HAD ONE STUDENT RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL STATE HONORS FROM THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION, AS WELL AS THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION.

IN ORDER TO EARN ACADEMIC ALL STATE, THESE STUDENTS HAVE TO BE IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE COACHES, HAVE GOOD MORAL CHARACTER, AND HIGH GPAS.

THEN WE ALSO HAD A JUNIOR RECEIVE A 6A ALL STATE HONORS FROM THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION AND SHE'LL ACTUALLY PLAY IN THE 6A ALL STAR GAME ON THE RED TEAM.

NOW, THIS YEAR SOFTBALL TEAM BROUGHT HOME THE DISTRICT AND BY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES AND MADE IT TO THE AREA AROUND PLAYOFFS.

NOW, TONIGHT WE HAVE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR BRIAN GERLICH HERE AGAIN, [OVERLAPPING] TO HELP RECOGNIZE THE STUDENTS.

>> OUR SOFTBALL TEAM, I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY GOT TO WATCH THEM PLAY THIS YEAR, BUT IT WAS AN AMAZING GROUP OF YOUNG LADIES.

WE ARE A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE PROGRAM.

THE GIRLS WERE IN EVERY GAME.

WE GOT INTO THE PLAYOFFS, AND THEN WE KEEP RUNNING INTO THESE COLOR SCHOOLS, AND WE'RE GETTING TIRED OF SEEING THEM, AREN'T WE? BUT VERY PROUD OF THE GIRLS AND WHAT THEY DID THIS YEAR.

THIS WAS THE 18TH YEAR IN THE ROW THAT WE MADE A PLAYOFF APPEARANCE.

THIS IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT WE WERE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS.

OUR OVERALL RECORD THIS YEAR WAS 26 AND 10, AND WE FINISHED DISTRICT PLAY WITH NINE WINS AND ONE LOSS DURING THE YEAR.

WE HAD A GREAT YEAR IN THAT AREA.

BUT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT, WE'VE GOT A LOT OF OTHER KIDS, STUDENTS WHO HAD SOME DISTRICT ACADEMIC AWARDS AS WELL.

WE HAD SEVEN DIFFERENT STUDENTS WITH ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICT, FOUR OF THEM WERE FIRST TEAM, FOUR WERE SECOND TEAM, AND THEN TWO HONORABLE MENTIONED ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICTS.

THE DISTRICT MVP WAS LEXI CLARK.

THE PICTURE OF THE YEAR WAS ORMAN.

WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THESE YOUNG LADIES AND ALL OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, BUT AS IT WAS MENTIONED ALREADY, THESE TWO GOT SOME STATE RECOGNITION AS WELL.

THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION HAS SELECTED LEXI CLARK TO PLAY ON THE RED TEAM.

NOW, WHAT THAT IS IS, I THINK IT'S NEXT WEEK, ISN'T IT OR THE WEEK AFTER? THE COACH AND SCORE. LEXI, I'M SORRY.

I WAS LOOKING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

>> IT'S NEXT WEEK.

>> NEXT WEEK.

>> WHAT IT IS IS THEY DIVIDE THE KIDS INTO TWO TEAMS. THEY HAVE A RED AND THE BLUE TEAM, AND THEY BASICALLY PLAY AN ALL STAR GAME WITH THOSE TWO.

LEXI HAS BEEN SELECTED TO PLAY AND WHAT POSITION YOU GOING TO PLAY? DON'T KNOW YET.

[LAUGHTER] YOU JUST GET TO PLAY.

WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF HER FOR THAT. SORRY.

>> MOST IMPORTANT PART.

>> I KNOW. I GOT ALL THE WAY TO THE END.

LEXI, CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING NAMED TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION 6A ALL STATE TEAM.

CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE] KYNLEE OVER HERE, SHE WAS ALSO SELECTED TO THE TEXAS GIRLS COACHES ASSOCIATION'S ACADEMIC ALL STATE TEAM AND THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION'S ACADEMIC ALL STATE TEAM AS WELL.

KYNLEE, CONGRATULATIONS.

[APPLAUSE]

>> HERE, 1, 2, 3. PERFECT.

>> SORRY.

>> THAT'S OKAY. [LAUGHTER]

>> CONGRATULATIONS, GIRLS.

>> [OVERLAPPING] THANK YOU.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> YES. GOOD JOB.

>> UP NEXT, WE WERE GOING TO HAVE BASEBALL, UNFORTUNATELY,

[G.6. Baseball Academic All-State]

THEY COULD NOT BE HERE, BUT WE DID HAVE SEVEN STUDENTS RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL STATE.

THEY'RE PLAYING SUMMER BALL OR DOING COLLEGE VISITS.

WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE BASEBALL PLAYERS WHO COULD MAKE IT.

WE'RE GOING TO GO TO TENNIS.

[G.7. Tennis Academic All-State]

CAN I HAVE TENNIS COME UP? AGAIN, PARENTS, IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE BACK, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO YOU.

>> WE'LL LET YOU GET BACK. FRENSHIP ISD WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE SEVERAL FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS PLAYERS ON A SUCCESSFUL SEASON.

THIS YEAR, FRENSHIP HAD SEVEN SENIORS RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL STATE HONORS THROUGH THE TEXAS TENNIS COACHES ASSOCIATION AND THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION.

[00:35:04]

TO QUALIFY, AGAIN, THESE SENIORS HAVE TO MAINTAIN HIGH GPA'S, EXHIBIT GOOD MORAL CHARACTER THROUGHOUT THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS.

IN THIS FALL, DURING TEAM TENNIS, THE TIGERS MADE HISTORY, WITH THEIR FIRST 6A DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

THEY ADVANCED AND WERE ALSO NAMED THE BY DISTRICT CHAMPS.

THEN DURING SPRING TENNIS, WE HAVE SIX ATHLETES ADVANCED TO THE 6A REGION 1 TENNIS TOURNAMENT, INCLUDING SOME OF THE STUDENTS BEING RECOGNIZED TONIGHT.

FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COACH SHELBY MAY IS HERE TO HELP US RECOGNIZE HER ATHLETES. COACH.

>> GOOD EVENING. BEFORE I START TALKING ABOUT OUR TEAM'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

I HAVE A COUPLE OF THANK YOUS THAT I WANT TO EXTEND.

FIRST TO THE BOARD AND TO DR. MCCORD, OUR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND ADMINISTRATION, AS WELL AS OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU GUYS DO SO THAT WE CAN GO OUT AND COMPETE IN 6A ATHLETICS.

THESE KIDS LEARN SO MANY DIFFERENT LIFE LESSONS FROM THAT, SO I JUST WANTED TO EXTEND A THANK YOU TO YOU FIRST.

I JUST WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR SEASON.

IN TEAM TENNIS, WE PLAY TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND THEN IN THE SPRING, IT'S MORE INDIVIDUAL, SO YOU HAVE FIVE DIFFERENT EVENTS.

IN TEAM TENNIS, OUR KIDS DID AN AMAZING JOB.

WE STARTED THE YEAR UNDEFEATED.

WE WOULD END UP BEING 12 AND THREE AT THE END OF THE YEAR.

WE WENT UNDEFEATED IN DISTRICT, WHICH IS 6A IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO DO AND THESE KIDS WON THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THAT WAS PRETTY AMAZING TO SEE THAT AND SEE THE SPORTSMANSHIP DISPLAYED AND JUST THEIR CHARACTER ALONG THE WAY, AND THEN OF COURSE, BY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AND THEN AREA QUALIFIERS.

THEN IN THE SPRING, WE TRAVELED TO ALL THESE DIFFERENT TOURNAMENTS AND THERE WAS NOT ONE TOURNAMENT THAT WE WENT TO THAT WE DID NOT HAVE SOMEBODY PLAY.

WE PLACED AT EVERY TOURNAMENT AND WE PLAYED SOME OF THE TOUGHEST TOURNAMENTS IN OUR REGION AS WELL AS JUST TRAVELING ACROSS THE STATE.

SUPER THANKFUL TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT AND TO SEE THESE KIDS REPRESENT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT SO WELL, NOT JUST IN THEIR PERFORMANCES, BUT HOW THEY TREATED PEOPLE ON AND OFF THE COURT.

THEN WHEN WE GOT TO DISTRICT PLAY.

WE HAD 15 OUT OF OUR 16 TOTAL VARSITY PLAYERS MAKE IT TODAY TO A COMPETITION, WHICH ONCE AGAIN, IN 6A, THAT'S INCREDIBLY TOUGH TO DO.

THEN EACH OF THOSE KIDS CONTRIBUTED TO TEAM POINTS, AND SO THEY DIVIDE IT BY A BOYS TEAM AND A GIRLS TEAM AND OUR BOYS TEAM WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND THEN OUR GIRLS TEAM WAS RUNNER UP.

THEN WE HAD SIX REGIONAL QUALIFIERS, INCLUDING BOTH OF THE STUDENT ATHLETES THAT ARE UP HERE WITH ME TONIGHT.

THEY GOT TO PLAY IN REGION 1 AND 6A, AND THEN WE ALSO HAD A LOT OF DIFFERENT DISTRICT AWARDS.

EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN OUR PROGRAM, RECEIVED A DISTRICT AWARD, AND THEN ALSO ACADEMICALLY, THEY EXCELLED.

I'D LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THOSE REAL QUICK.

WE NOMINATED OUR STUDENTS THROUGH THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION.

THEY HAVE TO HAVE A 92 PLUS GPA, AND THEN ALSO LIKE MS. TAYLOR SAID, THEY'RE EVALUATING THEIR CHARACTER AND THE OTHER THINGS THAT THEY'VE DONE THROUGHOUT THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS.

THEN OUR OWN TEXAS TENNIS COACHES ASSOCIATION DOES THEIR OWN ACADEMIC OWN STATE, WHICH HAS A LOT OF OTHER RIGOROUS STANDARDS TO EVALUATE STUDENTS ON AND ALL SEVEN OF OUR SENIORS RECEIVED THOSE AWARDS.

THAT WAS AMAZING TO SEE AFTER SUCH A SUCCESSFUL FALL AND SPRING SEASON.

I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE OUR TWO ATHLETES THAT ARE UP HERE TONIGHT, LISA LOUDER.

SHE RECEIVED THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION ACADEMIC, ALL STATE HONORABLE MENTION, AS WELL AS THE TEXAS TENNIS COACHES ASSOCIATION ACADEMIC ALL STATE.[APPLAUSE] THEN I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE CARSON SMITH, WHO ALSO EARNED THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION, ACADEMIC ALL STATE SECOND TEAM AND THE TEXAS TENNIS COACHES ASSOCIATION, ACADEMIC ALL STATE.

CONGRATULATIONS.

[APPLAUSE].

>> GREAT JOB.

>> PARENTS, IF Y'ALL WOULD LIKE TO GO IN THE BACK TO TAKE PICTURES, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO DO.

THIS WAS HER THIRD YEAR GOING FOR STATE CONGRESS.

TFA STATE, WE COMPETE IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS, UIL, IN SDA, NATIONAL SPEECH AND DEBATE ASSOCIATION, AND TFA, TEXAS FORENSIC ASSOCIATION.

IT JUST GIVES OUR STUDENTS SO MUCH MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET OUT THERE AND DO AMAZING THINGS.

IN TFA, THEY EARN POINTS AT CONTESTS BY PLACING AT THOSE CONTESTS AND THEN THEY GET TO GO TO STATE.

TATUM CAMERON, AGAIN, THIS IS HER SECOND YEAR QUALIFYING FOR TFA STATE IN EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING.

WE GIVE JUST THE RIGHT ONE.

>> THANK YOU.

SHE DID ABOUT THE SATURN V ROCKET. I REMEMBER THIS.

KENDALL, RIGNEY AND DUSTY PATEL BROKE OUT OF OUT ROUNDS IN TFA STATE AT DUO COMPETITION AND MEMORIZED 10 MINUTE THEATRICAL PIECE, AND THAT'S THE FIRST TIME IN FRENSHIP HISTORY I THINK THAT WE HAVE DONE THAT.

THEY DID A REALLY INCREDIBLE JOB.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. [APPLAUSE]

MR. KACKROW. YOU DRIFTED RIGHT ON THE END, RIGHT INTO THE FLIER. [LAUGHTER]

>> THANK YOU, BOARD MEMBERS.

LET'S START WITH RIDGEWOOD ELEMENTARY.

SAC RATING AND DIRT WORK FOR PARKING LOTS ARE ONGOING.

THE ROOFS IN THE DRIVE AND WE'RE DOWN TO OUR FINISHED LAYER OF ROOFING FOR THE STORM SHELTER.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT, THE SCHEDULE WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO.

THE INSTALLATION OF IRRIGATION SYSTEM IS SCHEDULED TO GOING BY THE 1 JULY.

EVERYTHING IS LOOKING GOOD, SCHEDULE WILL BE COMPLETED THE TIME STAFF AND STUDENTS RETURN FOR SCHOOL.

HERE, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE STANDING SEAM ROOF, GOING OVER THE PORCHES AND MAIN ENTRANCES, THAT'S COMING ALONG LOOKING NICELY.

PARKING LOT, WORK IS ONGOING.

SUB GRADES, AND I BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY THERE ON THE SUB.

OF COURSE, HERE, WE'VE GOT THE OFFICE AREA AND YOU SEE THE FLOORINGS IN, CEILINGS IN.

WALLS ARE PAINTED, COUNTERTOPS, DOORS ARE UP, SO DOWN TO THE FINAL AMENITIES ON THE NET.

TEACHERS' WORK ROOM, AND THEY WERE PADDING THIS OUT THIS MORNING CEILING.

CEILINGS IN, FLOORS ARE IN, OF COURSE, THE METAL WORK STAINED.

I GOT A FEW ODDS IN, PLUGS, AND SO FORTH IN THE WRAPPED UP.

ONE OF THE CLASS ROOM CORRIDORS, SEE THE FLOOR TILES DOWN.

WALL PROTECTIONS UP, CEILINGS COMPLETE.

HGAC IS ACTUALLY RUNNING THIS AREA.

TILE FOR THE REST ROOMS DOWN, WATER BOUNDS ARE INSTALLED.

STILL LIKE A FEW THINGS LIKE FIRE EXTINGUISHER CABINS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. WRAPPING THE NICE.

TYPICAL CLASSROOM, SEE THE CARPET, OF COURSE, CEILINGS AND WALL PAINT.

WALL BOARD. TECH BOARD ARE UP.

TYPICAL RESTROOM. OF COURSE, WALL TOP FOUR TILES DOWN [INAUDIBLE] FLOORS DOWN.

SOUND PANELS ARE UP, WALLS ARE PAINTED, GOALS ARE UP, THEN THE WRAPPING THE SMALL STUFF UP, PLUGS AND SWITCHES AND SO FORTH IT'S LOOKING NICE.

THIS IS THE FINAL SECTION OF THE BUILD TO BE WRAPPING UP.

THIS IS A STORM SHELTER AREA.

BUT YOU SEE THE WALL PROTECTION'S UP.

THE CEILING'S UP, GRID ITSELF, AND DOORS ARE ON FRAME TRANS.

I THINK THE FLOOR IS STARTING NEXT WEEK, SO SHOULD WRAP UP BRIEFLY.

LAST OUT THERE. NOW, LOUIS ON MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL.

[01:05:10]

STARTING IN THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND CORNER, WE HAVE THE ADDED AUDITORIUM, AND JUST TO THE LEFT OF THAT, WE HAVE ADMINISTRATION AND THE MAIN ENTRYWAY WHERE METAL STUD FRAMING AND EXTERIOR SHEETING ARE ONGOING.

JUST TO THE LEFT OF THE AT END, ARE THE PRACTICE GYMS AND COMPETITIONS WHERE BLOCK WAR FOR THE FOYER CONTINUE TO GO UP, AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL WALL ROUGH ENDS.

DIRECTLY BEHIND THAT, WE'LL HAVE OUR COACHES OFFICES, DRESSING ROOMS, THE BLOCK WAR CONTINUES TO HEAD BACK TO THE WEST.

BACK BEHIND THAT, WE'RE AT THE BLUE TOP ON THE BUILDING, THAT'S A BIG CLASSROOM AREA.

MOVING ALONG REAL NICE.

OVERALL, THE FACILITY IS ABOUT ONE THIRD ROOFED, SO WE'RE IN THE DRIVE AND IT'S LOOKING GOOD. THIS IS NOTEWORTHY.

THE DEVELOPER ACROSS THE STREET PUT IN THIS GREEN SPACE MEDIUM RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL, SO THERE'LL NEVER BE HOUSES BUILT IN.

I THINK IT'LL NOT ONLY LOOK NICE BUT HELP TO DEVIATE TRAFFIC DRIVE THROUGH.

I WAS GLAD TO SEE THAT.

THAT WAS AN MEANINGFUL ADDITION, A SURPRISE.

THIS IS ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER.

THIS IS THE CLASSROOM ADDITION.

THIS IS ACTUALLY FINISHED BLOCK WORK.

CAN YOU SEE BLOCK, STONE, AND BRICK WALL, ALL IN ONE SECTION? THAT YOU SEE THE BROWNS AND THE GREENS AND IT LOOKS REALLY NICE, REALLY ELEGANT.

THIS IS THE AUDITORIUM AREA.

YOU SEE THE VAPOR BARRIERS DOWN, CONCRETE REINFORCEMENTS PUT DOWN, THEY SET THE STAGE AREA IN THE LOWER SEAT. IT'S LONG.

I'M ACTUALLY GOING BACK TO THE STAGE IN THIS PICTURE.

THIS IS ADMINISTRATION, PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE, CHECK IN AREA, BUT STILL STUD FRAMING IS GOING UP AND IN WALL ROUGHING THROUGH ONGOING.

THIS IS A CAFETERIA KITCHEN AREA IT'S ALL FRAMED UP.

IN-WALL ROUGHING, YOU JUST FINISHED YOU'RE STARTING TO INSULATE THIS AREA, SO IT'S ALONG.

OF COURSE, COMPETITION IT, THEY'RE CURRENTLY FORMING AND FORM CONCRETE STEPS AND LANDINGS FOR YOUR SEATING.

OF COURSE, YOU EITHER TRUSSES ARE ACROSS THE ROOM AND WALK WORK HAS CONTINUED TO SURROUND IT, IT'S LOOKING NICE.

THIS IS BACK THE NORTHEAST CORNER, THE CLASSROOM ADDITION. THIS IS ONE OF THE CORE ROLE.

YOU CAN TELL SHE ROCKS UP, TAPED AND EMBEDDED, DOOR FRAMED ARE SET.

THE CONTINUING WITH THE OVERHEAD ROOF IN IT.

THIS WOULD BE ONE OF THE FIRST AREAS TO BE FINISHED, SO IT'S SCIENCE.

THIS IS IN THE SAME HALLWAY, IT'S ONE OF THE LEADING TO ONE OF THE [INAUDIBLE] START WITH SOME OF THE FINISHED TOWER.

YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT TOWER INSIDE OF THE RED ROOM.

A TOUGH PLACE WITH NOTHING AROUND IT BUT THE COVERS ARE NICE, THIS IS ONE OF THE CLASSROOMS. THIS IS THE FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE CLASSROOM, BUT YOU SEE WALLS ARE PAINTED, SITTING GRIDS UP, OVERHEAD ROOF IS COMPLETE.

FINE ARTS AREA, STILL STUD FRAMING AND IT IS UP AND WHILE ROUGHING IS ONGOING AND THEY STARTED INSULATING THIS AREA LAST FRIDAY.

WON'T BE LONG WE'LL GET SOME SHEET ROCK IN HERE.

IT'S REALLY A GRAND AREA.

THE PICTURE DOESN'T DO IT A LOT OF JUSTICE WHEN YOU WALK IN.

THOSE WALLS ARE 20, 25 FOOT TALL, SO IT'S GRAND, IT'S REALLY.

THIS IS BACK IN THE CT AREA, BACK IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER, WILL BE AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGIES.

BUT THEY'RE PRIMING THE WALLS, GOT THE DECK ON IT'S GOT A CONCRETE FLOOR, WAS A LITTLE DUSTY RIGHT NOW BUT IT'S LONG.

NOW WE'LL MOVE US ON TO MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

OF COURSE, WE GOT THE FOOTBALL FIELD, SEE THE GO POSTS UP.

THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM HAS BEEN INSTALLED.

SUB RAD AND GRADE PACKED AND GRAVELS ON OFF.

GOT OUR BLACK TOP WAS JUST ASH BALL TRACK.

THIS AREA IS ACTUALLY READY FOR TURF AND FOR TRACK.

[INAUDIBLE]. OF COURSE, HERE WE HAVE OUR SOCCER PITCH, SAME THING, DRAINAGE SYSTEMS IN. YOU SEE THE CURVE.

POSTS ARE UP. CONCESSION STAND WITH WALKS ONGOING SO IT'S LOOKING NICE.

I THINK AT THE END OF THE MONTH, WE'RE GOING TO START SEEING SOME STANDS ON THIS PER.

OF COURSE, YOUR FIELD HOUSE AND YOUR INDOOR TURF ROOM, YOU SEE WALKS ONGOING FOR YOUR FIELD HOUSE AND THE STEEL STRUCTURES UP FOR YOUR INDOOR TURF ROOM.

THAT'S ACTUALLY WHITE, I LEFT ON THIRD DAY I TOOK THIS PICTURE AND I CAME BACK TODAY, AND EVERYTHING'S PAINTED WHITE.

SLOW MOVING BOARDS, EVERYTHING.

THEY JOIN.

HERE IS ACTUALLY THE INDOOR DRESSING ROOMS FOR SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL AND DIRECTLY BEHIND THAT WILL BE THE INDOOR BACK SIL.

THEY GOT THE FIRST FEW COURSES OF LOCK UP PLUMBING IN.

>> COURSE OUTFIELD WITH SOFTBALL FIELD, DRAINAGE SYSTEMS IN THAT CURVE A FENCE POSTS UP FOR THE OUTFIELD.

THEY SHOULD WRAP THIS UP REAL QUICK.

THE FIELDS, I THINK WILL BE READY FOR TURF PLANTING IN 69 DAYS.

NOW, WE WON'T PLANT IT NOW OBVIOUSLY, WE'LL BE BUILDING DRILL.

THAT STRETCH IS REALLY MOVING.

THEN I MOVES SOUTH ON NINTH GRADE CENTER CONVERSION.

[01:10:04]

WE WILL BRING IN THE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES.

GOT THE SIDEWALK REMOVED AND BRINGING EVERYTHING IN FOR THE TWO ADDITIONS, THE ONE IN THE NORTH AND THE ONE TO THE SOUTH.

THERE WE'RE GETTING IT IN THE GROUND.

THIS IS A DRAINAGE SWELL THAT'S ACTING DIRECTLY TO THE EAST OF THE NINTH GRADE CENTER TO ALLEVIATE THE WATER OFF THE TWO FOOTBALL FIELDS, AND IT WILL ALSO TAKE SOME OFF OF THE EXISTING ATHLETIC COMPLEX PARKING LOTS, WHICH WILL HELP.

IT DRAINS BACK AROUND TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE NINTH GRADE CENTER, AND THERE'S A LITTLE RETAINAGE POND OVER THERE.

THEN IT DRAINS FROM THIS RETAINAGE POND WE'RE LOOKING AT RIGHT HERE OFF IN THE CITY DRAINAGE.

A FUN-FILLED FACT, WE GOT THIS RETAINAGE POND DUG AND THERE'S 10 FOOT BETWEEN IT AND THE CITY DRAINAGE THAT JACK DIG OUT TO CONNECT THE TWO.

WE GOT THREE INCHES OF RAIN IN 24 HOURS, AND I DIDN'T GET THAT 10 FOOT DUG.

I MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH.

[LAUGHTER] THIS IS THE CONCESSION STAND ACTUALLY BEHIND THE NINTH GRADE CENTER, THE EAST THAT YOU SEE FOOTINGS ARE DUG AND UNDERNEATH THAT THERE IT'S ACTUALLY CONCRETE FOOTINGS AND GROUND DRAINAGE TO THE PLUMB.

>> THAT'S THE REASON WHY IT RAINS SO MUCH.

>> I'M TELLING YOU. WASHES EVERYTHING OFF.

>> ANY TIME WE PUT POP IN THE GROUND IT RAINS.

>> THAT RIGHT. THIS IS THE PAD FOR THE TENNIS COURTS, THE POST ATTENTION TENNIS COURTS OVER TO THE NORTH SIDE OF THE NINTH GRADE CENTER.

IT'S REALLY READY TO BE FORMED UP REPORT.

THIS IS THE ADDITION TO THE NORTH OF THE NINTH GRADE CENTER AND THE SLASH TO BE THE ATHLETIC ADDITION.

FOOTINGS ARE IN, YOU SEE THE FIRST THREE COURSES OF WALKER UP AND UNDERGROUND ROUGHING IS COMPLETE.

AS SOON AS WE FINISH PUMPING THE WATER OUT OF THE DITCHES, WE'LL WALK ON IT.

THIS IS THE ADDITION ON THE SOUTH SIDE.

FOOTINGS ARE IN, THE FIRST COURSE OF WALKS GOING UP, UNDERGROUND ROUGH IS ONGOING SO MAKE NEW TIME HERE.

THEN WE'RE GOING A LITTLE ADDITION ON THE SOUTH END OF THE NINTH GRADE CENTER.

THERE'S FOUR CLASSROOMS THAT WE'RE TURNING INTO A VASCULAR AREA.

WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE GOING IN THERE THIS SUMMER AND WE'RE GOING TO DO ALL OF OUR UNDERGROUND PLUMBING, AND WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO FLOOR TILE BACK OVER THAT FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR SO THEY CAN USE THE FOUR CLASSROOMS. NEXT SUMMER WE'LL GO IN THERE, REMOVE THE TILE, BUILD OUR WALLS, AND TIE EVERYTHING WITH FIXTURES.

THERE'S JUST NOT ENOUGH TIME TO GET ALL DONE ON SUMMER SO WE'RE GOING TO FACE IT.

THERE'S A NATURAL DITCH IN THERE.

THEN THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE SOCCER PITCH DRESSING ROOMS. IS THE PATH BUILD. THEY'RE EXCAVATING THE FOOTING RIGHT NOW AND UTILITY SO THIS IS MOVING ON.

THAT BRINGS US TO THE EXISTING FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATIONS.

WHAT THIS IS IS A MAP OF THE AREA THAT WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS ON THIS SUMMER.

PROJECT WE WANT TO DO SOME OF THIS SUMMER AND SOME NEXT, SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO THAT SCHOOL.

BUT OVER IN THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND CORNER, YOU'LL SEE A KEY PLAN.

THAT KEY PLAN, I'VE LAID THINGS OUT.

THAT'S A FOOTPRINT OF THE ACTUAL HOSTING THE [INAUDIBLE] THE TOP, THE OFFICE HALFWAY DOWN THE PACK.

THE HIGHLIGHTED AREA IS IN GRAY.

THE A AND B IS THE AREA OF FOCUS THIS SUMMER.

THEN MOVING OVER TO THE ACTUAL FLOOR PLAN IS THAT BASICALLY BLOWN UP.

IN THE BOYS' RESTING ROOM, WE'RE TAKEN TO THE FLOOR RIGHT NOW DOING UNDERGROUND PLUMBING FOR SHOWERS, RESTROOMS, AND THEN THE P.E LOCKER ROOM WILL BE ADDED RESTROOMS AND ADDITIONAL LOCKERS FOR THE ADDITIONAL P.E KIDS.

THEN THE GYM IS PAINT THAT THE WALLS SO WILL GO AND KNOCK IT OUT THIS SUMMER.

HERE THE UNDERGROUND ROUGH AND, OF COURSE, FOR OUR RESTROOMS AND SHOWER AREA.

THIS IS OVER IN THE BOYS' WRESTLING AREA. THIS IS THE LOCKER AREA.

YOU CAN'T SEE THE PICTURE BUT OVER TO YOUR RIGHT-HAND SIDE IS THE OTHER TIME THE BOYS' RESTROOM.

THEY'RE HAVING A GOOD TIME. IT'S LOOKING GOOD. TO THE QUESTIONS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> FANTASTIC.

>> GREAT JOB. IT'S A LOT.

[LAUGHTER] THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING EVERYBODY DOES.

I ACTUALLY GOT TO TOUR THAT MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL ON THURSDAY.

IT WAS LIKE THE PACED ADVENTURE.

BECAUSE IT HAD RAINED A LOT.

BUT IT WAS GOOD.

I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY MAKE IT ALL COME TOGETHER INTO A BUILDING.

IT WAS AMAZING. THANKS.

>> NEXT PRESENTATION IS A STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE.

[2.B. Strategic Plan Update]

THANK YOU, MR. GRIFFIN.

HERE TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE.

[01:15:01]

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH AND GOING TO WRAP UP YEAR 2 OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN IMPLEMENTATION FOR YOU, JUST AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT THIS YEAR WAS.

YOU'LL, OF COURSE, BE HEARING MUCH MORE ABOUT THIS BUT I'LL GIVE YOU A QUICK OVERVIEW AND WE'LL LOOK AHEAD A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT.

REMINDER OF OUR GOALS DEVELOPED IN 2021 BY OUR COMMUNITY ADMINISTRATORS, STAKEHOLDERS, STUDENTS, AND YOU CAN SEE UP AND DOWN THOSE GOALS, THE FOCUS OF EACH ONE AND HOW IT REALLY DEFINES SOME REALLY IMPORTANT WORK FOR THE DISTRICT.

ONE NOTE THAT AS WE GO AHEAD, GOAL 6 IS ONE WE HAVEN'T SEEN A SPECIFIC RESULT FROM YET, BUT WE WILL BE TACKLING PART OF GOAL 6 COMING IN YEAR 3 COMING UP NEXT YEAR.

THIS LAST YEAR, YEAR 2, THESE WERE OUR SPECIFIC RESULTS.

1.2 WAS ACTUALLY A RENEWAL.

THIS WAS ORIGINALLY IN YEAR 1, AND WE BROUGHT IT BACK INTO YEAR 2 AS WELL.

BUT I'LL EXPLAIN WHY IN JUST A MOMENT.

THEN YOU SEE THROUGH THOSE ENGAGEMENT, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND TECHNOLOGY, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND THEN OUR CULTURE AS IT RELATED TO ONBOARDING WITH THOSE SPECIFIC RESULTS.

IN 1.2, WHICH WE DID RENEW LAST YEAR, THE BULK OF THE WORK WAS AROUND NAMING, AND, OF COURSE, IT'S DEFINED BY POLICY, BUT ALSO BOUNDARY SETTING AND JUST THE GUIDELINES THAT WE FOLLOW AND THE WAY WE GET FEEDBACK.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS WAS ENSURING THAT WE WILL ALWAYS BE GETTING STUDENT INPUT AND THAT WE'LL KNOW WHAT THAT STUDENT INPUT IS.

THAT WAS A BIG PART OF THAT.

THIS YEAR, WE BROUGHT IT OVER ALSO SOMETHING YOU'RE INTIMATELY INVOLVED IN, MORE NAMING, MORE BOUNDARIES, BUT THEN THE FRENSHIP MEMORIAL SPIRIT COMMITTEE WORKED UNDERNEATH THIS 1.2 STRATEGIC PLAN.

THE OUTCOMES, I THINK THAT WHAT WE'VE SEEN SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENTS WERE MADE AND ALL OF THAT IS JUST A LOT OF GREAT PUBLIC FEEDBACK ABOUT THE PROCESS, SEEING STUDENTS VOTE AND BE PART OF THE PROCESS, I THINK HAS BEEN VERY POSITIVE.

THE OUTCOMES ARE WHAT THE COMMUNITY CHOSE.

BUT AS FAR AS THE PROCESS GO, WHICH IS MY WORLD, I'M VERY HAPPY WITH HOW IT PLAYED OUT.

I THINK THAT OUR KIDS, THEIR VOICE WAS ELEVATED.

OUR COMMUNITY WAS A BIG PART OF IT, AND IT WENT REALLY WELL.

THAT ONE WILL NOT BE RENEWED INTO ANOTHER YEAR.

I THINK WE'RE DONE WITH THAT ONE TO NOW.

[LAUGHTER] IN UNDER GOAL 2, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN, MICHELLE ELLIOTT LED THIS TEAM.

SHE'S UNFORTUNATELY NOT FEELING WELL, SHE'S NOT HERE TONIGHT.

LAST YEAR, THE WORK THAT SHE AND JOE LED TOGETHER WAS TO BUILD OUR TECHNOLOGY PLAYBOOK AS A RESOURCE FOR OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF.

THIS YEAR SPECIFICALLY FOCUSED ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STAFF WHEN IT CAME TO TECHNOLOGIES.

A TEAM OF MEDIA SPECIALISTS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS AND TECHNOLOGY STAFF ALL TOGETHER CAME UP WITH A PLAN THAT WILL CARRY US FORWARD, REWORKING OUR BEGINNING OF YEAR TRAININGS AND WHAT WE'RE OFFERING, AND THEN TAKING US THROUGH THE YEAR, BOTH FOR RETURNING STAFF, NEW STAFF, AND STAFF THAT COME MID YEAR, HOW THEY'RE GETTING TRAINED UP ON THEIR DEVICES AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

THEY WORKED THROUGH A LOT, THEY GOT A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM TEACHERS.

THE PICTURES HERE FROM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN FEBRUARY, WHICH FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE GOT FEEDBACK BY CAMPUS AND THEN TARGETED THE PD ON CAMPUS BASED ON WHAT THEY SAID THEIR NEEDS WERE AROUND SOFTWARE, HARDWARE, WHATEVER IT WAS ON THEIR CAMPUS TECHNOLOGY SPECIFIC.

OUR MEDIA SPECIALISTS AND TIGER TECH SQUAD AND TIGER TECH CHAMPIONS ALL HELPED DELIVER THAT.

IT WAS REALLY WELL RECEIVED, A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK.

HOPEFULLY, SOMETHING TO CONTINUE WITHIN OUR PLAN TO CONTINUE DOING THAT.

RIGHT NOW, THE PLAN IS BUILT.

WE'RE FINALIZING WORKING WITH JOE AND HIS TEAM ON A COUPLE OF TWEAKS THAT THE TEAM IDENTIFIED AND JUST WAYS TO SUPPORT TEACHERS AS THEY COME IN TO THE DISTRICT.

BUT OTHERWISE, THIS ONE IS WELL ON ITS WAY TO BEING FULLY IMPLEMENTED WITH THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

I SKIPPED ONE OF OUR GOALS, 1.3, IF YOU NOTICE, AND WE'LL GET TO THAT ONE IN A MOMENT.

UNDER GOAL 3, THAT CRAIG THOMPSON LED THIS GOAL.

IF YOU REMEMBER IN YEAR 1, WE REWORKED OUR COUNSELORS' JOB DESCRIPTION, CINDY KOB LED THAT TEAM.

WE ADDED OUR DATA INTERVENTION SPECIALIST AND FREED UP COUNSELORS' TIME FROM A TESTING PERSPECTIVE.

THIS YEAR, IT WAS TAKING THAT NEW TIME AND NOW WORKING TOWARDS A DISTRICT-WIDE INSTRUCTIONAL CONTINUUM FOR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

THIS TEAM LOOKED AT A TON OF REFERRAL DATA, DISCIPLINE DATA, AND HOW THESE PROGRAMS ARE IMPLEMENTED AT FRENSHIP RIGHT NOW.

THESE ARE THE TWO PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE.

HOPE SQUAD'S A SECONDARY PROGRAM OF SUICIDE PREVENTION PEER TO PEER AND SECOND STEP IS A ELEMENTARY PROGRAM DELIVERED IN CLASSROOMS AROUND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL THINGS LIKE BEING KIND AND RESOLVING CONFLICT AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

WHAT WE LOOKED AT WAS HOW EFFECTIVE IS IT USING DATA, AND THEN ALSO THE TEAM SURVEYED THE DISTRICT DISTRICT-WIDE ABOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION, AND THEN LOOKED AT OTHER SOLUTIONS.

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES COULD WE PURCHASE? ARE THERE OTHER PROGRAMS? ARE THERE THINGS THAT COULD DO THIS BETTER? DISTRICT-WIDE, AND THEY CAME BACK TO SAY, WE HAVE TWO REALLY GOOD PROGRAMS, WE JUST NEED TO TIE THEM TOGETHER AND THEN TWEAK THE WAY THEY'RE IMPLEMENTED.

[01:20:02]

THEY HAVE BUILT IN NEW WAYS OF IMPLEMENTING PARTICULARLY SECOND STEP, BETTER TIMES OF THE WEEK, WORKING TOGETHER WITH CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, LOOKING FOR WAYS TO EMBED IT WITH CONTENT THAT IS BROUGHT FROM THE CURRICULUM SIDE, LIKE EMBEDDING IT WITH SOCIAL STUDIES AND CONNECTING THOSE LESSONS TOGETHER, WHAT TIME OF THE WEEK THAT IT'S DONE BASED ON DISCIPLINE DATA, THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

THEN IN CONNECTING THEM, BUILT A DISTRICT-WIDE THEMES EACH MONTH.

THEN THEY BUILT A PLAN WITH TIFFANY'S TEAM AROUND THIS.

ON THE SCREENS AT CAMPUSES, ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM PRINCIPALS, POSTERS, SOCIAL MEDIA, ACTIVITIES, ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT WILL TIE INTO THOSE LESSONS THROUGHOUT THE MONTH UNDER THEMES AND THEN REINFORCE THESE CONCEPTS AS WE GO ALONG.

THEN THAT GROUP, CRAIG'S GROUP, WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK AT DATA AS WE GO ALONG AND ADJUST AS NEEDED TO WHAT THIS WILL LOOK LIKE. CONNECTING THEM ALL.

WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME TALKING ABOUT STUDENTS THAT COME MID SEMESTER ALSO AND HOW THEY DON'T FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS, PARTICULARLY IN SECONDARY, THAT'S ONGOING THING THAT WE'LL CONTINUE WORKING ON WAYS TO ENSURE THAT THEY'RE CONNECTED AS THEY WALK IN THE DOOR AND THAT WE'RE MAKING SURE THAT NEEDS ARE MET FROM THE BEGINNING.

BUT THIS IS THAT PLAN AND HOW IT'S BUILT OUT SO FAR.

THEN 1.3 AND 5.2 ENDED UP WORKING TOGETHER.

1.3, THE TOP, CASSANDRA SLIGHTON LED THAT TEAM ABOUT ENGAGEMENT WITH PARENT, STUDENTS, AND STAFF AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL, AND THEN HE SIMPSON LED 5.2, WHICH IS THE SECOND PORTION.

ONBOARDING PROGRAMS, YOU THINK OF HIRING PEOPLE, BUT IT WAS STAFF, STUDENTS, AND FAMILIES, THE WAY THIS GOAL WAS WRITTEN, AND IT'S ALL ABOUT OUR CULTURE, EMBEDDING OUR CULTURE INTO THOSE THINGS.

WHAT WE ENDED UP WITH, DR. MCCORD FOUND AN ARTICLE THAT HELPED GUIDE THE PROCESS AND WE REALIZED, HEY, THESE TWO ARE REALLY DOING PARALLEL WORK AND THEY'RE CONNECTED.

WHAT THAT ARTICLE GAVE US WAS A CONTINUUM OF HOW YOU BECOME CONNECTED WITH A SCHOOL DISTRICT.

IF YOU SEE IN THE TOP LEFT, YOU INITIALLY HEAR ABOUT THE DISTRICT, YOU BECOME AWARE OF IT, AND THEN MAYBE YOU HAVE SOME INTEREST, AND THEN YOU MAKE A DECISION.

I'M GOING TO WORK THERE, OR I'M GOING TO ENROLL THERE, AND THEN YOU GO FORWARD FROM THERE.

HE'S TEAM REALLY TACKLED THE FIRST THREE IN THAT.

HOW DO WE MAKE PEOPLE AWARE OF FRENSHIP IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE? HOW DO WE GET THEM INTERESTED AND THEN HELP THEM MAKE THAT DECISION TO ENROLL OR APPLY? THEN CASSANDRA'S TEAM TOOK ON THE RETENTION AND ADVOCACY PIECE.

ONCE THEY'RE HERE, HOW DO WE KEEP THEM? THEN HOW DO WE TOOL THEM UP AND GIVE THEM INFORMATION AND HELP THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT WE DO AND WHO WE ARE THAT MAKES US SUCCESSFUL AND EXCELLENT AND THEN HELP THEM BECOME ADVOCATES FOR WHAT FRENSHIP IS AND FULLY BODY.

THE PLAN THAT HAS BEEN BUILT IS THOSE TWO PIECES, ATTEND SCHOOL OR APPLY TO WORK.

THEN ONE OF THE BIG THINGS THAT WE WILL SEE MOST PUBLICLY, TIFFANY HAS SIGNED ON TO DO A LOT OF WEBSITE WORK THAT WILL CREATE A WHO WE ARE AND A WAY TO EMBED OUR CULTURE INTO WHEN PEOPLE GO.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? ARE YOU GOING TO GO TO A SCHOOL OR ARE YOU GOING TO GO TO WORK, YOU'RE GOING TO GO TO THE WEBSITE AND TRY AND LEARN? LET'S BE INTENTIONAL THROUGH THE LENS OF THAT PERSON. WHO ARE WE? HOW CAN WE HAVE DR. MCCORD WELCOME THEM WHEN THEY COME LOOKING FOR THAT INFORMATION AND THEN SPLIT THEM INTO THE TWO THINGS THAT THEY WOULD BE LOOKING TO DO AND GET THEM INFORMATION QUICKLY AND EASILY AND THEN MAKE THAT A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE? THEN ONCE THE DECISION IS MADE, CASSANDRA'S TEAM WORKED ON TWO NEW PROGRAMS. CAMPUS CONNECTIONS AS A PROGRAM THAT PRINCIPALS WILL IMPLEMENT AT THEIR CAMPUS.

IT'S REALLY JUST INTENTIONALITY AND CONNECTING WITH THEIR STAFF ONE ON ONE AS WE GROW AND HELPING STAFF CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER TO CONTINUE TO BUILD THE CULTURE OF YOUR CAMPUS.

THEN ULTIMATELY BUILDING OUT AN AMBASSADOR PROGRAM THAT WILL IDENTIFY FAMILIES AT EACH CAMPUS THAT WE CAN GROW INTO THOSE ADVOCATES THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.

GIVE THEM SOME, I SURE HATE TO SAY SPECIAL ACCESS, BUT SOME SPECIAL ATTENTION SO THEY KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING AND WHY WE'RE DOING IT THE WAYS WE ARE, AND THEN SEND THEM OUT TO CONTINUE TO SPREAD THAT MESSAGE AS BEST AS POSSIBLE.

THAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE '25-'26 SCHOOL YEAR, BUT THE WEBSITE AND OTHER WORK WILL BE HAPPENING HERE COMING UP VERY QUICKLY.

LOTS OF WORK IN THIS ONE AND LOTS OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE TWO, BUT IT'S CALLED THE CUSTOMER JOURNEY.

THE MINDSET IS THERE ARE CUSTOMERS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER FROM THE MOMENT THEY HEAR ABOUT US, HOW DO WE THINK ABOUT OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THAT STANDPOINT? IT'S VERY HELPFUL.

THEN AS WE LOOK AHEAD, ONE THING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS RENEW 5.2, WHICH HE SIMPSON LED FOR ANOTHER YEAR.

THE REASON FOR THAT, IN THAT ARTICLE, IT STRESSED THAT REGISTRATION AND ONLINE VERIFICATION AND THAT PROCESS IS MANY TIMES THE FIRST IMPRESSION THAT ANYONE HAS OF OUR DISTRICT AS FAR AS NEW STUDENTS GO.

WE NEED TO MAKE IT AS SEAMLESS AS POSSIBLE.

WE'D LIKE TO RENEW THAT ONE AND HAVE A TEAM WORKING ON THAT TO UPDATE THE THINGS THAT NEED TO BE UPDATED AND MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING IT AS WELL AS WE CAN.

THEN AS I MENTIONED,

[01:25:02]

FOR THE FIRST TIME, GOAL 6 WILL BE REPRESENTED, A DISTRICT-WIDE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM THAT WILL CONNECT WELL WITH THE WORK THAT'S BEEN DONE BY CRAIG'S TEAM.

THEN WE WILL HAVE A RECRUITMENT PLAN THAT'S 3.1 AT THE TOP, I'M BOUNCING AROUND.

WE HAD IN YEAR 1 A RETENTION PLAN AND NOW THE RECRUITMENT PLAN, AND THEN IN CRAIG'S WORLD, AGAIN, A COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP THIS TIME TO SUPPORT STUDENT WELL BEING.

THIS ONE BRING THE COMMUNITY INTO THAT CONVERSATION A LITTLE BIT MORE.

THAT'S YEAR 3. YEAR 2 IN A NUTSHELL AND YEAR 3 MOVING AHEAD.

WE'RE GETTING READY TO BUILD THESE TEAMS RIGHT NOW OVER THE SUMMER AND THEN EVERYONE'S WRAPPING UP FINAL PIECES OF THEIR GOALS AND WE'RE DONE.

NICE TO TIE A BOW ON IT EVEN THOUGH THE WORK DOESN'T REALLY STOP WITH IT, BUT IT FEELS LIKE WE'VE GOTTEN IT MOSTLY TO THE FINISH LINE.

I'M HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS.

>> NO QUESTIONS. GREAT WORK.

>> GREAT JOB.

>> I'VE GOT A COMMENT. I LIKE TO EVERYBODY THINKS I COMMENT DOWN ON YOU AND I DON'T.

JUST YOU'RE ALWAYS SO SMOOTH AND FLUID, YOU CAN SLING SOME.

I'LL TELL YOU [OVERLAPPING] ABSOLUTELY.

WE GO TO COME DOWN. I LIKE TO HIT YOU SO JUST SEE I CAN STORE.

[LAUGHTER] WE'RE VERY THANKFUL TO HAVE YOU IN THE POSITION YOU'RE IN.

LIKE I SAY, MAN, IF THERE WAS A NAIL SEALED TEAM FOR FRENSHIP, YOU'D BE THE HEAD DUDE.

I DO APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO.

>> GREAT WORK.

>> GREAT WORK.

>> GREAT WORK.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT, BUT THEN, OF COURSE, THE TEAM, SO THEY DID A TONE OF WORK AND STUFF.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU, SIR.

>> THANK YOU.

>> GOOD JOB.

>> WHILE MR. PATRICK IS DECLUTTERING THE [INAUDIBLE] NEXT IT ON THE AGENDA, WE HAVE THE ROUTINE DISTRICT OPERATIONS.

IN YOUR PACKET, THERE WAS A CONSENT AGENDA.

[3.A. Consent Agenda]

AT THIS TIME, I WILL ENTERTAIN ANY MOTIONS OR COMMENTS WITH REGARDS TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[NOISE]

>> [INAUDIBLE] TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> SECOND.

>> MOTION TO APPROVE BY MS. JAMIE PHILLIPS, SECONDED BY MR. DAVID R. MILLER.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ANY OPPOSE SAME SIGN.

IT'S UNANIMOUS. I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'RE WHISPERING. [LAUGHTER]

>> WELL DID YOU ALL VOTE? [LAUGHTER]

>> WE DID. YOU DID. LISTEN TO THE RECORD. [OVERLAPPING]

>> I DID VOTE. SOMETIMES I ACCIDENTALLY VOTE AND I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO, BUT I DID WANT TO RECOGNIZE SOME VISITORS THAT WE HAVE.

NOT EVERYBODY'S A VISITOR, SOME ARE HERE WITH US ALL THE TIME, BUT PART OF THE CONSENT AGENDA WAS CONSIDERATION OF OUR FOOD SERVICE AGREEMENT AND SEVERAL ADMINISTRATORS FROM AIRMARK ARE HERE JOINING US.

SO WOULD YOU LIKE TO INTRODUCE THEM, MR. SHEETS? [NOISE]

>> YES. KEN, IF YOU WANT TO GO AND INTRODUCE YOUR STAFF.

>> OUR NEW DISTRICT MANAGER, MS. ERICKA SAMPSON.

[APPLAUSE]

>> SHE IS EVERYWHERE [LAUGHTER] AND SHE'S AWESOME.

>> THEN THE IMPACT REALLY IS BEHIND THE SCENES, REALLY IS THE GLUE THAT HOLDS THE BOX TOGETHER IS A GENTLEMAN BY THE NAME OF JOHN GASS, HE'S MY RIGHT-HAND PERSON.

[APPLAUSE] NOW WE HAVE TO SERVE YOUR STUDENTS.

>> I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU BEING HERE JUST IN CASE WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I APPRECIATE YOU-ALL TAKING THE TIME TO BE HERE THIS EVENING AND ALL THE THINGS THAT EACH OF YOU DO FOR US EACH DAY.

THEN SIMILARLY, PART OF THE CONSENT AGENDA WAS THE EXTENSION OF THE DURHAM TRANSPORTATION CONTRACT FOR THE '24/'25 SCHOOL YEAR, AND MR. SHEETS, WHO DO WE HAVE WITH US? I KNOW WHO ONE OF THEM IS, BUT WHO ELSE DO WE HAVE HERE WITH US FROM DURHAM?

>> YOU'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE WHO'S WITH YOU.

>> MY NAME IS WILLIAM DONOVAN.

I'M THE GENERAL MANAGER FOR FRENSHIP.

I'VE ACTUALLY BEEN HERE SINCE MARCH OF LAST YEAR, BUT WE'VE BEEN PRETTY BUSY, [LAUGHTER] SO I HAVEN'T GOT TO COME AND INTRODUCE MYSELF, AND THIS IS MY REGIONAL MANAGER, BRIAN GIBSON.

I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU GUYS FOR PUTTING THE TRUST THAT WE HAD TO EARN BACK INTO US.

WE'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF GREAT THINGS, HAVE A LOT MORE GREAT THINGS COMING THIS YEAR, AND I'M JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO A GOOD PARTNERSHIP. [NOISE]

>> YES. AND I WILL SAY, WILL,

[01:30:01]

I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT YOU [LAUGHTER] WHEN YOU FIRST CAME, AND I'M SURE YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ME, BUT WILL'S FROM NEW ORLEANS, THAT WASN'T MY CONCERN.

[LAUGHTER] YOU DID HAVE TO EARN SOME OF OUR TRUST BACK, AND IT WAS A LITTLE ROCKY THERE AT FIRST BECAUSE YOU INHERITED A LITTLE BIT OF A MESS, BUT I CAN TELL YOU, AND YOU ALL KNOW I DON'T SAY THIS VERY OFTEN ABOUT DURHAM, BUT WILL HAS DONE A GREAT JOB.

NOW DON'T MAKE A LIAR OUT OF ME, WILL.

[LAUGHTER] MESS THIS UP WILL.

BUT WILL HAS REALLY HELPED US, AND MICHAEL BACK THERE DOES LOTS OF WORK AS WELL.

HE WORKED FOR FRENSHIP. [OVERLAPPING] BUT WILL HAS HELPED US IN LOTS OF WAYS AND DON'T LET HIS YOUNG AGE FOOL YOU, HE IS REALLY HELPED IN SOME COST SAVING MEASURES AND LOOKED AT THINGS IN A DIFFERENT WAY AND UTILIZED SOME TECHNOLOGY AND SOME DIFFERENT THINGS THAT HAVE HELPED US AND REALLY HELPED ME.

THAT DAY I CALLED YOU, AND I'M LIKE, WILL, I NEED HELP.

I'M IN A LOT OF TROUBLE, WILL, [LAUGHTER] AND IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT.

AND HE WAS LIKE, OKAY.

AND SO YOU HELPED US OUT, HELPED US SAVE SOME MONEY, MAKE SOME PARENTS HAPPY, AND US FULFILL A PROMISE THAT WE HAD MADE, THAT FRENSHIP MADE THAT WE WE DID NOT FOLLOW THROUGH ON AND YOU HELPED US GET THAT DONE. I APPRECIATE THAT.

>> HE WAS ALWAYS HERE FOR US.

>> I APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> CAN I SAY SOMETHING NOW?

>> OF COURSE. [LAUGHTER]

>> WE'RE FACING GETTING INTO THE BUSY SEASON WITH YOU GUYS, NOT ONLY WITH KIDS, BUT WE GOT A LOT OF EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, AND THE ONLY THING I CAN STRESS TO YOU [NOISE] IS DEPENDABILITY.

>> YES, SIR.

>> YOU DID CARRY THE BALL WITHOUT FALLING.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> YOU TOLD ME, WHEN I TOOK OVER, DON'T RUN IN THE DITCH.

THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID.

[BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER]

>> [INAUDIBLE] TO BACK UP THE OTHER SIDE.

[LAUGHTER] WE'RE GOING DOWN THE ROAD.

>> THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME TO BE HERE IN CASE WE HAD QUESTIONS.

I KNOW YOU DIDN'T PRESENT OR ANYTHING, BUT I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOU-ALL TAKING THE TIME TO BE HERE. [NOISE]

>> WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE FANTASTIC PART OF THE PROGRAM HERE.

[3.B.1. Deliberation and possible action to select an auditor to conduct an efficiency audit of the District under Texas Education Code 11.184 as part of the Board's consideration of a possible November 2024 Voter Approval Tax Rate Election]

WE'RE GOING INTO SOME ACTION ITEMS. [BACKGROUND] B1, WE HAD DELIBERATION OF POSSIBLE ACTION TO SELECT AN AUDITOR TO CONDUCT AN EFFICIENCY AUDIT OF THE DISTRICT UNDER THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE 11.184 IS PART OF THE BOARD'S CONSIDERATION OF POSSIBLE NOVEMBER, 2024, VOTER APPROVAL TAX RATE ELECTION.

>> WELL, UNLIKE KEITH, I'M NOT SMOOTH AND FLUID, [LAUGHTER] SO YOU'RE NOT GOING TO TRY TO MAKE ME STUMBLE, I CAN DO THAT ALL ON MY OWN AND DO THAT.

>> I'M NOT GOING TO THROW ANYTHING AT YOU.

[LAUGHTER]

>> I APPRECIATE IT. I'LL START OUT WITH THIS.

I'M JUST GOING OVER TEXAS EDUCATION CODE 11.184.

IT WAS PASSED IN 2019 AT THE 86TH LEGISLATIVE SESSION, AND IT JUST MANDATES SCHOOL BOARDS TO CONDUCT AN EFFICIENCY AUDIT IF THEY'RE GOING TO GO OUT FOR A VOTER APPROVAL TAX RATE ELECTION.

I KNOW WE HAVE NOT DECIDED TO DO THAT, BUT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT AND EXPLORED THAT.

FRENSHIP IS EXPERIENCING AND ENJOYING A LOT OF GROWTH.

AND WHEN I SAY GROWTH, I'M TALKING ABOUT STUDENTS, AND SO I THINK THAT IT'S WORTH ACKNOWLEDGING, THAT'S A GREAT THING THAT SO MANY FAMILIES WANT TO BRING THEIR KIDS TO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT WITH THAT, OF COURSE, COMES INCREASED STUDENT ENROLLMENT, THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL CAMPUSES FOR THOSE STUDENTS AND JUST ADDITIONAL COSTS IN GENERAL AND SO THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE CAN EXPLORE.

SO YOU MIGHT ASK, WELL, WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS NOW THEN IF WE HAVEN'T DETERMINED TO GO DOWN THAT ROAD? IT'S SIMPLY A COUPLE OF THINGS.

IF SOMEONE IS GOING TO GO OUT FOR A VA-TRE, ONE, IT HAS TO BE DONE AT THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS.

THE OTHER PART OF THAT IS IT HAS TO BE DONE WITHIN A TIME FRAME LEADING UP TO THAT ELECTION.

SO WITH BOTH OF THOSE THINGS AND TRYING TO FOLLOW ALL THE REQUIREMENTS AND THEY'LL MEET ALL THOSE TIMELINES OF THE DEADLINES, WE'RE AT THE POINT WHERE WE NEED TO GO AND DO THAT TO GET THE BALL ROLLING AS

[01:35:01]

FAR AS JUST BEING PREPARED IF WE CHOOSE TO GO THAT ROUTE.

SO IN YOUR BOARD PACKET, YOU HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT LETTER FROM EIDE BAILLY, AND IT GOES INTO A LITTLE MORE DETAIL ON WHAT EXACTLY IS INCLUDED IN THAT AUDIT, WHAT ALL IT GOES THROUGH.

IT'S A LOT. IT'S PUBLIC INFORMATION ANYWAYS, BUT IT'S INCLUDED IN THERE SO I'LL BE GLAD TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS.

IF THERE'S NOT, I CAN GO ON TO WE DO HAVE A [NOISE] RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU TO CONSIDER.

>> AT THIS TIME, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR. SHEETS?

>> NO, SIR.

>> [INAUDIBLE]. [LAUGHTER]

>> WELL, THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE ADMINISTRATION FOR YOU ALL TO CONSIDER IS RECOMMENDING THE FIRM OF EIDE BAILLY LLP TO BE ENGAGED TO PERFORM AN EFFICIENCY AUDIT OF THE DISTRICT UNDER TEXAS EDUCATION CODE 11.184, AND THE COST OF THE AUDIT IS NOT TO EXCEED $14,000.

>> MOVE FOR APPROVAL.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION FOR APPROVAL BY MR. DAVID R. MILLER.

>> SECOND.

>> WE HAVE A SECOND BY MR. ANDREW COX.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ANY OPPOSED? MOTION'S UNANIMOUS.

ONE THING I WILL SAY AS YOU'RE GOING TO SIT DOWN, THAT'S FINE, [LAUGHTER] THE ONE THING THAT I WAS GOING TO SAY AS WELL, THERE'S AN AWFUL LOT OF DISTRICTS AROUND THE STATE THAT ARE ADOPTING THE DEFICIT BUDGETS, AND THAT IS NOT SOMETHING WE BELIEVE IN HERE, AND I BELIEVE THAT OUR STAFF AND OUR ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN VERY FRUGAL.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER THEY CAN CONTINUE, BUT YOU CAN BET AS LONG AS THIS BOARD IS SEATED WHERE IT'S AT, THAT IS PROBABLY WHAT WE'RE GOING TO STRIVE TO DO.

SO WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT ARE OUT THERE, WHETHER IT'S SWAPPING PENNIES OR DOING WHAT YOU CAN DO TO MAXIMIZE YOUR FUNDING AND MAXIMIZE YOUR BUDGET WITHOUT IMPACTING THE TAXPAYER THAT OFTEN, I THINK WE WOULD BE NOT GOOD STEWARDS TO THE TAXPAYERS IF WE JUST DIDN'T EXPLORE IT.

SO I THINK THE AUDIT IS A GENUINE 4A IN THAT, AND I THINK IT'S ABSOLUTELY A NECESSITY, SO I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY ALLOWING US TO DO THAT.

NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA, WE HAVE APPOINTMENT OF A DELEGATE.

[3.B.2. Appointment of delegate and alternate for the 2024 Texas Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly]

GET READY, YOU NEWBIES.

[LAUGHTER] TWO MORE ROUNDS.

>> WE HAD A COUPLE SNEAK OUT EARLIER FOR A BREAK.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> THERE'S A CURVE COMING ON THIS ONE.

>> THERE'S A CURVE BALL COMING.

>> THE APPOINTMENT OF THE DELEGATE AND ALTERNATE FOR THE 2024 TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS DELEGATE ASSEMBLY.

MS. LIBRA, I BELIEVE YOU ARE THE LADY WITH THE PLAN.

>> YES. THE PLAN IS TO KICK IT BACK TO YOU ALL.

[LAUGHTER] THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS.

IT'S BASICALLY YOU GUYS DETERMINE WHO YOU WOULD LIKE TO SELECT AS DELEGATE AND ALTERNATE FOR THE DELEGATE ASSEMBLY THAT'S PART OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS CONFERENCE AND THAT IS IN SEPTEMBER.

>> YOU ALL SEE HER FEATHERS.

CAN YOU SEE HER FEATHERS? IT'S CALLED CHICKEN. [LAUGHTER]

>> YES. [LAUGHTER] EVERYONE IS HERE TO DECIDE.

I MAY NOT BE HAPPY [OVERLAPPING]

>> I NOMINATE DAVID MILLER.

>> WHAT'S THAT? [LAUGHTER]

>> ARE WE SUPPOSED TO NOMINATE SOMEONE?

>> HE NOMINATED DAVID MILLER.

>> I NOMINATE DAVID MILLER.

>> AWESOME.

>> YOU'RE AS GOOD AS THIS [INAUDIBLE]. [LAUGHTER]

>> WHAT IS THE DAY? [OVERLAPPING]

>> DON'T EVER SPEAK TO ME AGAIN.

>> ARE YOU NOMINATING DAVID AS A DELEGATE, OR AS AN ALTERNATE?

>> AS A DELEGATE.

>> DELEGATE. SO WE HAVE A NOMINATION OF DAVID MILLER AS A DELEGATE.

>> JUST SO YOU KNOW, HE'S NOT BEING RAILROADED. HE AGREED TO DO THAT.

[LAUGHTER] PEOPLE ARE LIKE, WHAT? HE REALLY DOESN'T LIKE TAPING. [LAUGHTER]

>> SEAN, I'M GOING TO DO THIS.

YOU CAN GET UPSET WITH ME IF YOU WANT BUT [OVERLAPPING]

>> HONORED.

>> I SAID THAT TOO.

>> IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A TRADITION THAT THE JUNIOR MEMBER, WHILE YOU'RE THE SAME AS EVERYBODY ELSE UP HERE, BUT YOU'RE THE NEAREST ONE ON THE BOARD, USUALLY GOES AND PARTAKES JUST SO YOU CAN GET THE EXPERIENCE AND THE AMBIANCE.

>> BUT OF COURSE.

>> I LOVE THAT.

>> YOU'RE JUST THE DELEGATE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ALL BOARD MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO GO.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> YOU'RE JUST THE ALTERNATE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ENCOURAGE.

>> WE'RE NOT WEARING THE SAME SHIRTS. [OVERLAPPING]

>> NO.

>> I WOULD GO, BUT I HATE THOSE SHIRTS, THE LONGHORN ONES HAD ON LAST YEAR.

>> THE QUICKEST WAY TO GET THE SUPERINTENDENT FIRED.

[LAUGHTER]

>> IT'S ONLY BECAUSE A FEW OF US HAVE TO GO TO OMAR,

[01:40:01]

THE TENT MAKER TO HAVE SHIRTS MADE.

[OVERLAPPING] I TALK ABOUT THE SAILOR. [LAUGHTER]

>> ARE WE VOTING?

>> WE'VE LOST ALL OF CONTROL. [LAUGHTER]

>> WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT OF MR. DAVID R. MILLER AS THE DELEGATE AND MR. CHRIS WILL BE OUR ALTERNATE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> SEAN.

>> THAT'S ALL RIGHT. I JUST LIKE HIM. [OVERLAPPING] IT'S GOOD.

>> I'M TRYING. [LAUGHTER] ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

>> AYE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> ANY OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES.

>> THANKS, DAVID.

>> YOU'RE GOING TO BE GREAT.

>> YOU'LL BE RIGHT WITH ME.

>> WE HAVE OTHER BOARD BUSINESS.

[4.A. Tentative Agendas for Upcoming Meetings]

WE HAVE A TENTATIVE AGENDA FOR UPCOMING MEETINGS.

JUNE 26TH, 2024 IS A SPECIAL MEETING.

I WONDER WHAT THAT'S ABOUT.

YOU WANT TO EXPOUND UPON THAT?

>> SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION.

>> 26TH.

>> I BETTER GET MY ACT TOGETHER. [OVERLAPPING]

>> WHAT TIME?

>> 7:30 IN THE MORNING.

>> OH MY GOODNESS.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> [LAUGHTER] WE BE FED A PROPER BREAKFAST?

>> YES, YOU WILL.

>> I BELIEVE HE'S REFERRING TO BISCUITS AND GRAVY.

>> YES, OF COURSE.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> [LAUGHTER] WE ALSO HAVE THE JULY 15TH, 2024, WORKSHOP AND REGULAR MEETING.

>> BUDGET WORKSHOP.

>> BUDGET WORKSHOP. IT JUST SAYS WORKSHOP

>> WELL, IT DOES, BUT IT SHOULD SAY WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE BUDGET.

>> WHAT TIME IS THAT?

>> TEA MEETING.

>> IT'S NOT 730.

>> PROBABLY AROUND 5:30 SO [OVERLAPPING] IS WHEN WE'LL START.

[OVERLAPPING] WE'LL HAVE SNACKS OR DINNER, FOOD.

>> SOMETHING.

>> SOMETHING.

>> THEN WE HAVE UPCOMING EVENTS.

WE HAVE THE TASA/TASB CONFERENCE OF SEPTEMBER 27TH-29TH,

[4.B. Upcoming Events]

2024, TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.

>> THEN FUN FACT FOR YOU IS THAT, IS IT DALLAS, AND AUSTIN DECIDED TO JUST BLOW UP THEIR CONVENTION CENTERS BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO OLD SO THE ONLY PLACE TO HAVE A CONFERENCE IS GOING TO BE SAN ANTONIO FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS.

[NOISE] THAT WAS IT. THAT WAS THE NEWS.

>> THAT'S NOT A GOOD, NICE FACILITY.

>> THEY DO, BUT IT'S LIKE ALL THE BIG CONFERENCES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> HOW MANY UP AND DOWN OUR 35 QUARTER WERE DEVELOPING, ADOPTING DEFICIT BUDGETS.

MAYBE THEY'RE TRYING TO HELP THEM WITH TRAVEL.

[NOISE] ANY OTHER SUBJECTS.

YOU ARE FLIPPING ME UP BECAUSE I'M USED TO SEEING YOU HERE.

[LAUGHTER]

>> WE'RE TRYING TO FILL THE SEATS.

>> WE HAVE THE GIRLS ON LOCK OUT.

[OVERLAPPING]

>> ANY OTHER SUBJECTS TO BE DISCUSSED? THIS MEETING STANDS ADJOURNED. THANK YOU-ALL FOR COMING.
