[00:05:03]

SO THANK FOR COMING I'M SURPRISED.

>> WHEN YOU STARTED, 20 YEARS AGO OR SO.

THE PRINCIPLES CAME TO THE MEETING, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE NEARLY AS MANY PRINCIPLES.

BUT WE HAVE THE PRINCIPLES HERE TONIGHT.

AND SO THERE'S MORE OF THEM.

AND I KNOW I'M NOT GOING TO BE TO GET ALL THE NAMES, RIGHT NOW.

SO THIS ROW AND INTO THE NEXT ROW PRINCIPLE OF FRIENDSHIP.

>> PRINCIPAL [INAUDIBLE] STAND UP.

>> PRINCIPLES.

>> PRINCIPLES.

>> LOOK AT ALL ONE SET IN THE BACK.

NOW, WE'RE NOT DONE. SO NOW IT'S TIME TO GIVE.

BRAD, STEP UP TO THE [OVERLAPPING] AND WE MADE THIS.

I DIDN'T LIKE IT. BRAD HAD MENTIONED TO ME, TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR, BUT I THINK THE WERE AT A CMC MEETING AND THOSE ARE EARLY IN THE MORNING.

AND I THINK WE SHOWED A VIDEO THAT TIFFANY, OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT HAD SHOWED WHEN WE WERE GETTING READY TO REVEAL OUR PANTHER LOGO AND MASCOT.

AND SO PART OF THAT VIDEO WAS THESE TWO DECATS WITH THE YELLING PEAK FACING OFF.

HE JUST MENTIONED IN PASSING BECAUSE HE NEVER SAYS, I WANT THIS OR I WANT THAT.

HE SAID HE WAS LIKE, OH, THAT WOULD BE A COOL PICTURE IF I HAD IT HANGING IN MY OFFICE.

BUT THAT WAS BEFORE, WE KNEW THAT HE WAS GOING TO BE GET ON THE BOARD SOON AND ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF.

SO HERE IS SOMETHING TO HANG IN YOUR OFFICE OR WHEREVER.

>> DON'T TURN AROUND.

>> YOU WANT TO COME TAKE A PICTURE.

PRESENTED THAT TO YOUR DAD? YES.

>> I STILL HAVE THINGS TO SAY [INAUDIBLE].

>> TURN THE PICTURE. THERE YOU GO RIGHT THERE.

>> I NEED MY NOTE. I GOT A SPEECH.

BECAUSE I HAD TO REMEMBER [INAUDIBLE] SUITABLE FOR FRAMING.

CERTIFICATE SUITABLE FOR FRAMING.

AND MR. DRAPER USUALLY SIGNS THEM, BUT WE DIDN'T MAKE HIM SIGN.

MR. DRAPERS SERVE ON I'M NOT GOING TO LOOK OVER THERE.

>> CAN I GO SIT DOWN?

>> NO. BUT HE STARTED HIS WORK ON THE BOARD IN 2004.

AND OVER THE THEN AFTER A FEW YEARS, HE BECAME THE BOARD PRESIDENT.

THAT WAS I CAME TO FRIENDSHIP AS AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT THE SUMMER OF 2010.

AND HE WAS THE BOARD PRESIDENT WHEN I ARRIVED AND SERVED AS THE BOARD PRESIDENT UNTIL A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO.

SO OVER THE PAST TWO DECADES, SO SO GOING BACK A MINUTE, I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY HOURS YOU'VE SPENT AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY THINGS HE'S MISSED, BUT IT'S REALLY A WHOLE FAMILY KIND OF FEEL LIKE BEING IN THE MILITARY, A LOT LIKE THAT IN WARTIME.

BUT THAT BECAUSE YOU MS. A LOT OF THINGS AND YOU PUT THE GOOD OF THE WHOLE OF THE THOUSANDS OF KIDS.

BUT IT'S A SACRIFICE TO SOMETIMES YOUR OWN KIDS AND WIFE AND GRAND KIDS.

BUT IT'S KIND OF LIKE A MINISTRY.

BUT OVER THESE TWO DECADES,

[00:10:01]

WE'VE ADDED TEN SCHOOLS SCHOOLS.

THE POPULATION IN TERMS OF STUDENT ENROLLMENT HAS DOUBLED IN THAT TIME.

YOU'VE MADE A MARK ON THE DISTRICT.

WHETHER, PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS REMEMBER THE NAMES, BUT IF THEY LOOK AT THOSE PLATS.

WHICH THEN IT'S RECORDED.

BUT WHETHER PEOPLE REMEMBER THE NAME OR NOT.

I KNOW I'LL REMEMBER THE NAME.

AND BUT THAT YOU'VE LEFT AN INDELIBLE MARK ON JUST LEADING THIS GROW BOARD, ALONG WITH YOU, BUT LEADING THAT CHARGE IS REMARKABLE.

AND IT'S OFTENTIMES A THANKLESS JOB.

IT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU SPEND A LOT OF TIME IN HERE.

YOU DO A LOT OF BEHIND THE SCENES THINGS.

AND SOME OF THE MOST PLEASANT THINGS ARE DURING RECOGNITIONS, THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO A COUPLE OF THOSE.

BUT A LOT OF IT IS NOT FUN.

IT'S CRITICALLY IMPORTANT IN THE FUTURES AT STAKE FOR KIDS.

BUT DURING YOUR LEADERSHIP, THE DISTRICT HAS CHANGED FROM A RURAL SMALL TOWN DISTRICT TO A FAST GROWING SUBURBAN DESTINATION DISTRICT.

AND PART OF THAT IS BECAUSE OF YOUR LEADERSHIP.

AND THEN THIS ISN'T ABOUT ME.

BUT THIS IS MY 15TH YEAR IN THE DISTRICT.

AND GOT TO KNOW THE BOARD MEMBERS AND MR. DRAPER, BECAUSE AT THAT TIME AS ASSISTANT, MY JOB WAS TO MAKE PHONE CALLS ABOUT ALL THE BAD THINGS.

LIKE WHAT TIFFANY DOES AND [INAUDIBLE].

SO BUT I WOULD CALL AND THEN THEY WOULD BE LIKE, WELL, YOU WANT I MEAN, JUST THEY WOULD BE NICE, BUT THEY KNEW IF IT WAS GOOD, IT WOULDN'T BE ME CALLING.

IT WOULD BE SOMEONE ELSE.

AND SO I GOT TO KNOW THE BOARD THROUGH THE BAD NEWS.

THEN WHEN THE SUPERINTENDENT WENT ON TO A LARGER DISTRICT AND I HAD NOT REALLY EVER INTENDED TO BE A SUPERINTENDENT.

I'M REALLY A THERAPIST DISGUISED AS A SUPERINTENDENT.

AND HAD IT NOT BEEN OR SPECIFICALLY, MR. DRAPER AND MR. MILLER.

AND KYLE WAS ON THE BOARD AT THAT TIME.

BUT MR. MILLER AND MR. DRAPER, THOSE ARE NOT EASY TIMES WHEN THE SUPERINTENDENT LEAVES.

YOU FIND OUT NOT EVERYBODY LIKES YOU.

[INAUDIBLE]. WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THE COURAGE TO FACE IT TO DO IT, BUT THEY NAMED ME INTERIM.

WE DID THAT IN HERE.

AND THEN WE WALKED BACK BEHIND HERE INTO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE.

I WAS JUST THINKING, YOU KNOW, OKAY, HERE WE GO AND THEY SAID, OKAY, SO WE'LL GIVE YOU, THE WEEKEND, AND THEN YOU NEED TO MOVE DOWN HERE INTO THIS OFFICE.

I SAID, NO, I'M NOT MOVING DOWN NEAR TO THIS OFFICE.

I'M NOT MOVING DOWN HERE BECAUSE, I'M PROBABLY NOT GOING TO GET THE JOB.

THEY WANTED ME TO HIRE MY REPLACEMENT, AND I'M LIKE, NO, I THINK LET'S JUST LET ME DO ALL THE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO, NOT HAVE A CHAIR TO SIT IN WHEN MUSIC STOPS.

BUT ANYWAY, THEY SAID, NO, YOU'RE NOT DOING THAT.

YOU WILL GIVE YOU THE WEEKEND.

YOU MOVE YOUR STUFF DOWN HERE AND YOU RUN THIS DISTRICT.

LIKE YOU'RE THE SUPERINTENDENT.

THEN BECAUSE IT WAS VERY SERIOUS AND I'M SURE I WAS CRYING AND ALL THESE THINGS.

THEN JUST STILL IN THE MOOD.

I KNOW IT DOESN'T REALLY SOUND GREAT NOW, BUT WHAT YOU SAID WAS, YOUR LAST WORDS WERE, DON'T RUN IN THE DITCH.

BUT IT WAS BECAUSE I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ME.

IT'S LIKE YOU DO THIS? JUST KEEP TAKING ONE DAY AT A TIME. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. AND IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY?

>> YES I DO.

>> YOU CAN SAY.

>> I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT EVERYBODY'S PUT TOGETHER ON THIS, THE WORDS ARE SPECIAL AND THE GIFTS ARE SPECIAL.

[00:15:02]

WELL I THANK MY WIFE AND FAMILY FOR BEING SO SUPPORTIVE AND PUTTING UP WITH ME BECAUSE SOMETIMES WHEN THINGS AREN'T GOING GOOD HERE.

IT'S HARD NOT TO TAKE HOME AND BE GROUCHY.

SO I DO APPRECIATE THAT. I APPRECIATE.

ALL MY MY GRANDCHILDREN, ARE ALL TIGERS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE, AND WE'RE COUNTING ON HIM BEING ONE.

UNLESS IT'S NOT QUITE OLD ENOUGH YET.

>> THEY WHOLE FRIENDSHIP HAS BEEN VERY GOOD TO MY FAMILY.

IT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD TO ME.

WHEN I WAS APPROACHED BACK IN 2004 TO GET ON THE BOARD, IT WAS BECAUSE THEY WERE DOING A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION AND THEY WERE STRUGGLING AND WE HAD A FEW HURDLES TO CLIMB.

THEY GOT ME AND NOT TOO LONG AFTER THAT, THEY GOT MR. MILLER.

SINCE THEN, DAVE'S BEEN [NOISE] MAN FOR THE LONGEST TIME DAVE TOOK CARE OF A LOT OF THE STUFF THAT I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE EXPERTISE IN, BUT WE WERE A GOOD TEAM.

I LOOK AT THINGS AND IN SPORTS ANALOGIES BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND SPORTS.

IT'S REAL EASY TO BE A GENERAL MANAGER OF AN ELITE TEAM WHEN YOU GOT THE RIGHT HEAD COACH AND YOU GOT ALL THE RIGHT PLAYERS.

I CAN'T TAKE CREDIT FOR THAT BECAUSE I LOOK BACK AT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT I'VE HAD ON THE BOARD WITH ME, THAT HAVE BEEN GOOD GUYS AND GOOD GIRLS, AND I'VE ENJOYED EVERY ONE OF THEM.

THE ONLY THING THAT I DO REGRET AT THIS TIME IS TO YOU CHELSEA AND SEAN.

I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO WORK WITH YOU THAT LONG.

BUT THE BOARD GOT TWO GYMS AND HOPEFULLY, YOU'LL FIND ANOTHER ONE THAT TAKES MY SPOT.

IF THEY'RE THERE, IT'S FINE FOR SOMEBODY ELSE TO COME IN AND PARTICIPATE.

WITH THAT, I WILL TELL YOU THAT I'M STILL HERE.

I'M STILL WATCHING [LAUGHTER] TO YOU, DR. MCCORD, I'VE HAD THREE SUPERINTENDENTS, BEEN HERE AS I'VE BEEN A BOARD MEMBER, AND I THINK EACH ONE OF THEM WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME.

THEY WERE THE BEST FIT.

WHENEVER DR. BRANDMAN DECIDED HE WANTED TO GO TO MESQUITE, THAT'S BEEN A LIFE LONG DREAM LIKE IT IS TO BE A INTERCITY SUPERINTENDENT AND I THINK WE ALL TALKED ABOUT THAT.

WE WOULDN'T REAL HAPPY ABOUT THE TIMING THIS TAKES IT WORK OUT FOR THE BEST.

WE PUT DR. MCCORD IN AS INTERIM.

THE STORY SHE'S TELLING IS TRUE, DAVID DID GO DOWN THERE AND TELL HER YOU NEED TO MOVE DOWN THERE IN THE SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE.

BECAUSE AS AN INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT, NOBODY'S GOING TO SEE YOU IN THAT ROLE UNLESS YOU'RE IN THAT OFFICE DOING IT.

WHAT SHE DIDN'T KNOW IS DAVID AND I HAD A PLAN AS A TRIO FOR HER.

BOY, DID SHE GET ALL KINDS OF STUFF ON HER IN THE INTERIM THAT TO BE QUITE HONESTLY YOU, I'VE SEEN A LOT OF CAREER SUPERINTENDENTS, NOT GET ENGAGED IN THAT MANY DIFFERENT CONTROVERSIAL THINGS BUT SHE DID GREAT.

BUT I THINK THAT YOU'RE THE BEST FIT FOR THE DISTRICT.

BEST FIT MOVING FORWARD, YOU'VE BEEN SHOT AND ARMED.

I REALLY CONSIDER YOU THE TEACHERS SUPERINTENDENT.

YOU CARE A LOT ABOUT THEM, WHICH IN TURN CARES A LOT ABOUT OUR KIDS AND WHAT'S BEST FOR THE FUTURE.

IT'S TIME FOR ME TO GO AND MAKE SOME OF MY EFFORTS.

I'VE GOT A PARTNER THAT HAS BEEN VERY PATIENT FOR ME, BEING ON THE SCHOOL BOARD.

HE'S ON CITY COUNCIL IN SHALLOW WATER SO HE'S BEEN PATIENT ON ME AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR ME TO TAKE ALL THOSE ATTRIBUTES THAT I'VE LEARNED FROM BEING A BOARD MEMBER HERE AND PUTTING THEM TO WORK AT KWA ENGINEERING.

THANK YOU ALL. I'VE ENJOYED.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> SOME OF THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS MAY WANT TO ADDRESS THE AUDIENCE AND I'LL START OFF WITH IT.

FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS FOR ONE DAY A MONTH AND RAZ MISSED A FEW OF THOSE MONTHS AND I'VE MISSED A FEW OF THOSE MONTHS.

I'VE BEEN ON HIS HIP AND WATCH HIM AND LEARN FROM HIM.

I GUESS THE SUM OF ALL THOSE YEARS UP, BRAD HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS FRIENDSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT.

I'M NOT REPLACING BRAD, I JUST MOVED OVER A SEAT.

I DON'T THINK ANYBODY CAN REPLACE WHAT BRAD HAS MEANT TO THIS DISTRICT.

I'M GOING TO TRY MY BEST, BUT I KNOW WHAT I'M UP AGAINST AND I CAN TELL YOU,

[00:20:05]

I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYBODY LONG AFTER I'M GONE, THAT'S GOING TO REPLACE WHAT BRAD HAS DONE AND MEANT TO THIS DISTRICT.

MEANT TO ME, I'VE GOT TO KNOW HIM.

FAMILY, I APPRECIATE YOU LOANING HIM TO THE DISTRICT BECAUSE BASICALLY THAT'S WHAT SHE DID FOR 20 YEARS AND NOT MANY FAMILIES COULD COULD DO THAT OR WOULD DO THAT.

WE ALWAYS SAY IT'S ABOUT THE FRIENDSHIP FAMILY WELL, IT'S ABOUT THE [INAUDIBLE] FAMILY.

I KNOW, BRAD, YOU PROBABLY COULDN'T HAVE DONE THE THINGS YOU'VE DONE WITHOUT THEIR SUPPORT.

I KNOW I'M GOING TO MISS YOU.

BUT ENJOY LIFE AFTER BEING A SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT, IF THERE'S STILL SOME JOY LEFT IN YOUR LIFE.

[LAUGHTER] IF WE DIDN'T USE IT ALL UP.

GOOD LUCK AND WE'LL SEE YOU AROUND THE BLOCK.

>> [LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING]. I CRIED SUPERMARKET OPENING SO I'M TRYING TO KEEP THIS SHORT SO DON'T [INAUDIBLE] I TOO WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU.

IT'S BEEN AN HONOR SERVING WITH YOU. I'VE LOOKED UP TO YOU.

YOU'VE DONE A OUTSTANDING JOB AT LEADING THIS DISTRICT, AND IT'S BEEN AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH YOU.

>> NOW, I WANT TO ECHO THAT SO I LOOK UP TO YOU ALSO.

THE VERY FIRST PHONE CALL I EVER GOT, I WAS APPOINTED TO FILL AN UNEXPIRED TERM AND AND THE FIRST PERSON I TALKED TO ABOUT IT WAS BRAD.

BRAD SAID IT'S NOT THAT HARD IF YOU'RE JUST THERE FOR THE RIGHT REASON AND I THINK HE LIVED THAT.

YOU CAN LOOK AT HOW OUR BOARD IS AND HOW WE WORK AND COMPARE THAT TO SOME OTHER BOARDS THAT DON'T HAVE THAT RELATIONSHIP, AND THAT'S A BIG TESTAMENT TO BRAD.

BRAD LETS US, SPEAK, BRAD ALLOWS EVERYBODY THEIR OPPORTUNITY, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, HE REMINDS US THAT WE'RE ALL HERE FOR THE SAME REASON AND THAT WAS THE KIDS SO I THINK THAT HIS LEADERSHIP TO LEAD A SCHOOL DISTRICT THIS SIZE, AND WITH ALL THAT WE HAD GOING ON AND OUR GROWTH AND EVERYTHING ELSE, AND FOR US TO HAVE THE CONTINUOUS POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND LEADERSHIP.

IT'S ALL JUST A TESTAMENT TO BRAD'S LEADERSHIP.

SECOND TO NONE IS I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU TAUGHT ME AND HE'S RIGHT THERE'S NOT REALLY SHOES TO FILL, BUT IT IS A GREAT ONE TO TRY TO EMULATE AND SO I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR US AND [INAUDIBLE].

>> THANK YOU.

>> I KNOW WE DIDN'T GET TO SERVE TOGETHER FOR VERY LONG, BUT I'VE KNOWN YOU A WHILE.

I KNOW YOUR SWEET GIRLS BACK THERE.

I'M GLAD YOU CAME ON BOARD BECAUSE WE CAN TELL YOU RAN THEM OFF [LAUGHTER] THOSE GRAD BABIES ARE THE LOT OF YOUR WORLD THEY ARE, GO ENJOY AND HAVE YOURSELF [INAUDIBLE].

>> ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU.

>> WE HAVEN'T SERVED TOGETHER FOR A LONG TIME, BUT I'LL TELL YOU THIS, MY WIFE'S BEING A TEACHER IN THIS DISTRICT FOR 15 YEARS, AND HER CONFIDENCE IN WHAT FRIENDSHIP HAS DONE SPOKE VOLUMES.

WE WERE AT A TIME WHERE HAVING KIDS, WE CONTEMPLATED, HER STAYING AT HOME WITH THE KIDS.

BUT FROM WHAT THIS DISTRICT HAS DONE AND WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE SHOWN US MADE ME VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THIS MESSAGE YEARS AGO.

BUT COMING HERE AND SITTING IN FRONT OF ALL OF YOU, ESPECIALLY YOU, AS WE TALKED ABOUT ME BEING ON THE BOARD AND WHAT THIS MEANT, IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO HEAR FROM A LEADER THAT LEADS IN A WAY THAT'S NATURAL.

IF YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW BRAD, HE TACKLES THE HARDEST SITUATIONS, BUT HE DOES IT WITH SUCH GRACE THAT I FELT COMFORTABLE BECAUSE THEY WARNED ME I CAME AT A TIME WHERE, MAN, WE'RE GOING TO GET HIT WITH SOME THINGS, AND I TELL YOU, I FELT COMFORTABLE THE ENTIRE TIME.

I'VE SERVED ON THE BOARDS, BUT THIS BOARD HERE, YOU CREATED SOMETHING, A CULTURE.

ONE THING YOU GUYS SAID WAS NO ONE HERE IS HERE TO SERVE THEMSELVES AND THEIR OWN SELF INTEREST, AND YOU YOU MADE SURE THAT THAT'S STATE OF MIND, I'M PRETTY SURE SO I APPRECIATE YOU.

I THINK YOU'RE GREAT AND AGAIN, I WISH I HAD MORE TIME, BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU SET THE STANDARD.

I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE.

[00:25:02]

>> ONE THING I'VE ALWAYS APPRECIATED ABOUT THE BOARD IS EACH OF YOU MEN AND WOMEN ARE ALPHAS IN YOUR INDUSTRY AND WHAT YOU DO.

BUT WHAT'S ALWAYS BEEN MASS IS WHEN YOU COME TOGETHER AS A COLLECTIVE BODY.

THERE'S NOT ANYBODY TRYING TO BE THE AUTHOR, YOU ALL WORK TOGETHER BECAUSE YOU ALL HAVE THE SAME AGENDA AND THAT'S WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS AND I THINK THAT IS VERY COMPLIMENTARY TO YOU GUYS.

I THINK IT'S ALSO A LOT THE CULTURE IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THEY APPRECIATE THAT.

I APPRECIATE ALL THE KIND WORDS ABOUT BEING A LEADER, BUT I WILL TELL YOU I THINK I TOLD ALL OF YOU WHEN EVERYBODY HAD THOUGHT THAT I WAS GOING TO STEP DOWN.

I HONESTLY BELIEVE YOU GET THE SAME LEADER AND MR. MILLER AND I HOPE YOU ALL GIVE HIM YOUR FULL FLEDGED SUPPORT, HIM AND DR. MCCORD BOTH BECAUSE HE'S GOT IT, YOU KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING.

I GOT CONFIDENCE IN YOU GUYS.

>> MY TURN TO TALK. [OVERLAPPING] I'M GOING TO START OVER. LET'S START OVER.

I WANTED TO SAY THIS THAT I TALKED ABOUT, ALMOST LIKE AND THIS IS THE FUN PART, BUT MOST OF IT IS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND IT'S CARD DECISIONS.

I SAID IT'S LIKE, IN WAR TIME IN THAT IT'S THANKLESS, A LOT OF TIMES.

I THINK I SAY THAT BECAUSE THERE'S LOTS OF WONDERFUL THINGS THAT HAPPEN HERE.

WHERE A DESTINATION DISTRICT, THERE'S SO MANY EXCITING THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING BECAUSE OF THE LEADERSHIP.

BUT I WOULD SAY THAT I THINK I LIKEN IT TO WAR BECAUSE IT IS A DAILY BATTLE.

ANYBODY WHO WORKS IN PUBLIC EDUCATION KNOWS THAT IT'S A GOOD FIGHT, BUT IT IS A FIGHT EVERY DAY.

I THINK THAT YOU LEARNED THE MOST AND I LEARNED THE MOST.

IT'S NOT ON THE MOUNTAINTOPS WHERE YOU LEARN, IT'S IN THE VALLEY.

WE'VE BEEN THERE A PANDEMIC AND A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE, IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE FOX HOLE WITH YOU WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN THAT YOU REMEMBER THOSE PEOPLE ALL OF YOU AND MANY OF YOU OUT HERE.

WE WON'T FORGET THAT.

I'LL DIE OFF SOON, BUT IT STILL WON'T BE LIKE THIS.

WE REMEMBER THE PEOPLE THAT STARTED THIS DISTRICT 89 YEARS AGO AND YOU ALL ARE A BIG PART OF THAT HISTORY MOVING FORWARD.

IN ANOTHER 89 YEARS, THEY'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING THROUGH THE BOOKS AND THEY'RE GOING TO SEE WOW, WHO WAS THAT PERSON THAT STAYED FOR YEARS.

[LAUGHTER] ANYWAY.

>> WELL I GET THAT. YOU'VE BEEN ON THERE, RIGHT?

>> NO. [LAUGHTER] YOU DO REMEMBER SO MANY GOOD THINGS HAVE HAPPENED.

BUT AGAIN, IT'S YOU LEARN [INAUDIBLE] AND SO IT'S EASY TO DO THIS PART ACCEPT THE AWARDS ALL THAT KINDS OF STUFF.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD.

[INAUDIBLE] AND ALL THE STUFF THAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE IT A GREAT DISTRICT AND THAT LITTLE GIRL, MAYBE WE'RE GOING TO BE PASSING HIM OUT SOME CERTIFICATES.

[LAUGHTER] THANK YOU ALL. YOU GET TO GO.

YES MA'AM.

>> [OVERLAPPING] EVERYBODY ELSE USUALLY GETS TO LEAVE AND YOU HAVE TO STAY.

I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> [BACKGROUND] PRINCIPLES.

>> PRINCIPLES. [BACKGROUND].

>> I WAS GOING

[00:30:16]

TO TURN OVER TO [INAUDIBLE] BUT I GUESS SHE'S ALREADY DONE [INAUDIBLE] OUR NEXT ITEM IS THE UL STATE LAUNCHING TIME TEST [INAUDIBLE]

[G.2. UIL State Marching Contest Qualifiers]

>> YES. THIS WILL BE A LOT MORE PROTECTED.

>> IF YOU ALL COULD GO BACK THERE FOR [INAUDIBLE] TO GET PICTURE [INAUDIBLE] TO GO BACK THERE AND LET YOU ALL GET SET.

>> WE'RE EXCITED TO CONGRATULATE THE FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL BAND ON THEIR RECENT PARTICIPATION IN THE UIL SIX A STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP THAT WAS HELD AT THE ALAMO DOME IN SAN ANTONIO.

THIS IS THE BANDS 11TH APPEARANCE AT THE STATE MARCHING CONTEST DATING BACK TO 1999, AND THE FOURTH OVERALL STATE APPEARANCE IN THE SIXTH A CLASSIFICATION.

WE'RE EXTREMELY PROUD OF THE FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL STAFF AND THE MORE THAN 300 BAND STUDENTS WHO DILIGENTLY WORKED ON PERFECTING THEIR RACE THEME SHOW CALLED ZOOM ZOOM.

IF YOU WENT TO ANY OF THE FOOTBALL GAMES, YOU SAW THEIR AMAZING PERFORMANCES.

OUR FRIENDSHIP WAS JUST ONE OF 40 6A BANDS TO COMPETE AT STATE LAST WEEK, AND THEY REPRESENTED FRIENDSHIP VERY WELL.

TONIGHT, WE HAVE FRIENDSHIP BAND DIRECTOR SCOTT CARTER TO HELP US RECOGNIZE HIS STUDENTS AND STAFF.

>> THANK YOU MISS [INAUDIBLE]. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALLOWING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECOGNIZE THE STAFF AND THE STUDENTS.

AS THE LARGEST AND PROBABLY MOST VISIBLE SPIRIT ORGANIZATION IN THE DISTRICT.

WE TAKE A LOT OF PRIDE IN REPRESENTING FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, NOT JUST AT THE REGION, BUT THE AREA OF THE STATE LEVEL, AND NATIONAL AS WE TRAVEL ACROSS THE NATION OVER THE PAST MANY YEARS.

IT'S SOMETHING THAT'S NEAR AND DEAR TO OUR STAFF IS THE FACT THAT OUR GOAL IS TO TRY TO CREATE BETTER PEOPLE THROUGH MUSIC.

IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT, AND IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT BECOMING GREAT MUSICIANS, BUT IT'S ABOUT BECOMING GREAT PEOPLE.

WE BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE GREAT STUDENTS AND THAT STARTS WITH GREAT SUPPORT.

WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE FOR US AND SUPPORTED US THROUGH MANY LONG REHEARSALS AND UNIFORMS AND BUSES AND LOTS OF TRAVEL, AND THE MANY THINGS THAT IT TAKES TO MOVE WHAT WE FEEL LIKE A SMALL CITY SOMETIMES COMES TO MANEUVERING FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER.

TONIGHT WE HAVE A SMALL REPRESENTATION, OF COURSE, OF OUR LARGER STUDENT POPULATION.

OUR DRUM MAJORS ARE JOINING US THIS EVENING AND THESE YOUNG LADIES HAVE DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB.

THREE OF THEM ARE SENIORS AND ONE IS A JUNIOR.

THEY HAVE REALLY HELPED US LEADING OUR STUDENTS ON AND OFF THE FIELD IN THE CLASSROOM AND EVERYWHERE ELSE.

I WANT TO INTRODUCE SENIOR KIANAH ALDACO [APPLAUSE], SENIOR [INAUDIBLE] [APPLAUSE].

SENIOR PRITIKA GAUTAM [APPLAUSE], AND JUNIOR ELDY HILL [APPLAUSE].

I'M EXTREMELY PRIVILEGED TO HAVE AN INCREDIBLE BAND STAFF.

WE COULD NOT DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT THEIR INCREDIBLE WORK EVERY DAY.

THEY CERTAINLY HELP ME ON A DAILY BASIS, KEEPING EVERYTHING STRAIGHT, KEEPING ALL THE REST OF THE SAME.

I'LL ABOUT TO RECOGNIZE ASSISTANT BAND DIRECTOR MICHELLE LESSING [APPLAUSE].

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AJ BASSANI [APPLAUSE].

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR CAMERON WOLF [APPLAUSE].

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT AND GUARD DIRECTOR AMANDA KNIGHT [APPLAUSE].

AND WE'LL LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THIS SEMESTER STUDENT TEACHER, THIS IS MR. SAMUEL ORDE, WHO IS THE [INAUDIBLE] [APPLAUSE] [INAUDIBLE]. THANK YOU GUYS.

ONCE AGAIN. IT WAS SUCH A PRIVILEGE TO REPRESENT FRIENDSHIP HIGH SCHOOL AND FRIENDSHIPISD AT THE STATE LEVEL.

I TOLD THE STUDENTS, YOU WILL NOT FIND A LARGER COLLECTION OF EXCELLENCE IN THE MARCHING ARTS, AS YOU DO ON THAT ONE DAY IN THE ALAMO DOME WITH 40 OF THE MOST ELITE MARCHING ENSEMBLES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

FOR US TO BE A PART OF THAT WAS SOMETHING PRETTY SPECIAL. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

[00:35:13]

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> BEFORE YOU ALL SIT DOWN, MR. CARTER.

I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE JOB THAT YOU DO.

I KNOW YOU SAID YOU'VE GOT A TEAM, BUT A TEAM NEEDS A LEADER.

YOUR GROUP OF 300 MEMBERS, THAT'S A LARGE NUMBER OF KIDS TO BE IN CHARGE OF.

THERE'S NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT CAN DO THAT.

YOU DO THAT WELL.

EVERYWHERE I GO, I ONLY HEAR GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE FRIENDSHIP BAND.

NOT IN MY 18 YEARS.

I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT [OVERLAPPING].

>> I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 26 YEARS.

>> TWENTY SIX, SO YOU WERE HERE BEFORE ME, AND SO [APPLAUSE] I'VE NEVER HEARD A BAD THING.

ABOUT OUR BAND, AND YOU ALL REPRESENT THIS DISTRICT SO WELL, AND IT'S VERY MUCH APPRECIATED FROM A BOARD STANDPOINT THAT WHENEVER WE GO OUT OF TOWN, THAT WE CAN WHEN THE BANDS BROUGHT UP, THERE'S GOOD THINGS SAID ABOUT FRIENDSHIP.

WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO. THANK YOU.

>> YOUR SMALL CITY COMMENT MOVING A SMALL CITY, MY PARENTS ARE DRIVING DOWN ON TOWN THE OTHER DAY.

WHILE YOU ALL WERE ON YOUR WAY TO SAN ANTONIO AND I GET A CALL FROM MY DAD THAT SAYS, DID YOU ALL DECIDE NOT TO BUILD A HIGH SCHOOL AND JUST MOVE IT [LAUGHTER]. THEY'RE GOING TO THE BAND.

>> MR. WOLF I HAVE TO ASK YOU THIS.

AT THE STATE COMPETITION, WERE YOU WALKING AROUND LIKE CIA OR SOMETHING IN THE STANDS THAT THE BACK?

>> NO THAT'S PROGRESSION DIRECTOR, MR. [INAUDIBLE].

>> I WAS LIKE, WHO IS THIS GUY? [LAUGHTER] [INAUDIBLE] YES, HE HAD LIKE THEM [INAUDIBLE] AND ALL THE THINGS LIKE SECRET SERVICE.

I WAS LIKE, IS THIS? WHAT'S GOING ON? IS THAT LEGAL.

>> HE COULD BE HERE TONIGHT. HE WAS AT [INAUDIBLE]

>> [INAUDIBLE].

>> AND HE HUSTLE WAS OVER. ANYWAY OKAY.

>> THANK YOU GUYS.

>> [OVERLAPPING] TELL ME. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> THE NEXT ITEM

[G.3. Region 17 ESC Secondary Teacher of the Year]

OF BUSINESS IS RECOGNITION OF REGION 17 ESC SECONDARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

>> FINALLY AGAIN [INAUDIBLE].

>> UP NEXT, WE'RE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE ALCOVE TRAILS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER, SARAH DENNING WAS SELECTED AS A REGION 17 SECONDARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

SARAH WAS SURPRISED WITH THE NEWS AT CONVOCATION AND PRESENTED WITH THE HONOR BY REGION 17 BACK IN APRIL, SARAH WAS SELECTED BY HER PEERS AT ALCOVE TRAILS AS THEIR CAMPUS TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

SHE WAS LATER SELECTED BY A COMMITTEE OF FRIENDSHIP ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AS THE OVERALL FRIENDSHIP IF SECONDARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

NOW AS A RECIPIENT OF THAT REGIONAL AWARD, SARAH WAS ALSO RECOGNIZED WITH ALL THE OTHER REGIONAL WINNERS ACROSS THE STATE AT THE ANNUAL TEXAS TEACHER OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION.

TONIGHT, WE HAVE REBECCA WIKI, ALCOVE TRAILS MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO HELP US RECOGNIZE HER ACCOMPLISHMENT.

>> THANK YOU, TIFFANY.

THANK YOU ALL FOR RECOGNIZING AND HONORING SARAH TONIGHT.

THIS IS SUCH A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD.

OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE A FRIENDSHIP TEACHER OF THE YEAR EVERY YEAR, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY REGIONAL TEACHERS OF THE YEAR WE'VE HAD OVER THE YEARS, BUT IN WEATHERS 1,200 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS OVER 350,000 TEACHERS, AND SARAH WAS ONE OF THE TOP 20.

I CANNOT THINK OF ANYONE MORE DESERVING.

SHE IS THE CREAM OF THE CROP.

I AM BLESSED TO SAY I HAVE A LOT OF ROCK STAR TEACHERS AT OUR SCHOOL.

BUT I'VE TRULY NEVER SEEN ANYONE THAT HAS THE PASSION THAT SARAH DOES.

EVERY DAY, SHE COMES IN TO HER CLASS AND SHE FIGHTS FOR HER STUDENTS TO MOVE THAT NEEDLE, AND SHE DOES IT IN THE MOST CREATIVE AND FUN WAYS.

[00:40:02]

WALKING INTO HER CLASSROOM, IT'S LIKE A PARTY.

YOU DON'T EVEN REALIZE YOU'RE LEARNING.

SHE JUST MAKES IT SO FUN.

>> [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER].

>> I MEAN, MATTER OF FACT, SHE TOLD ME WHEN WE WERE GOING TO ROUND ROCK TO RECOGNIZE HER THAT SHE WAS GOING TO WRITE ANOTHER, NOT JUST ONE NOVEL.

SHE'S ALREADY WRITTEN ONE, AND SHE'S A PUBLISHED AUTHOR.

BUT SHE WAS GOING TO WRITE ANOTHER NOVEL SO THAT SHE COULD USE THAT NOVEL TO TEACH HER KIDS BECAUSE SHE REALLY WANTED TO INCORPORATE ALL OF THE TAKES AND ALL OF THAT INTO HER CLASSROOM.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I MEAN, SHE FINDS SO MANY WAYS TO REACH OUR KIDS AND TO INSPIRE KIDS. JUST SO BLESSED.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS WHEN I GOT TO ACCOMPANY HER TO ROUND ROCK, I WAS SO VERY PROUD THAT SHE WAS FROM FRIENDSHIP.

YOU GUYS WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD WAY.

SHE REPRESENTED NOT ONLY OUR DISTRICT, BUT OUR REGION.

SHE WENT TOE TO TOE WITH SOME OF OUR DIGNITARIES IN OUR STATE, AND SHE VOICED HER OPINION FOR THE STUDENTS OF TEXAS, AND I WAS SO BLESSED, SO IMPRESSED, AND JUST SO PROUD TO CALL HER MIND.

THANK YOU, SARAH DENNING.

THIS IS VERY WELL RESERVED.

[APPLAUSE].

SORRY. MOM WRITES [LAUGHTER].

>> WHO ARE THESE.

>> THIS IS MY DAD RAY BOX.

AND THIS IS MY MOM, KATHY BOX.

SO YOU MAY KNOW, KATHY BOX.

SHE'S BEEN IN EDUCATION FOR A REALLY LONG TIME, AND SHE'S THE REASON THAT I BECAME A TEACHER AND SO A LOT OF THESE THINGS, THIS PASSION AND YOU KNOW THESE THINGS.

DEFINITELY COME FROM MY MOM, AND SO SHE'S ALWAYS BEHIND THE SCENES HELPING ME WORK HARD TO GET BETTER FOR THE STUDENTS.

BOTH OF THEM HAVE SERVED ON BOARDS JUST LIKE YOU GUYS OVER THE YEARS.

IT'S REALLY NEAT TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THAT IS.

I KNOW FIRST AGAIN HOW MUCH WORK THAT IS, AND I'M JUST SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF YOU AND ALL THAT YOU DO FOR US.

WE FEEL AS THE TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL FOR SURE.

MY LEADERSHIP IS AMAZING.

WE FEEL THAT SUPPORT DIRECTLY.

DID YOU ALL KNOW THAT MISS WIKI GOT US THE MISSUS AT OUR LUNCH ONE PARTY.

[LAUGHTER].

>> IT WAS FREE. [OVERLAPPING]

>> DOCTOR MCCORD WE'RE SO GRATEFUL, WE DO FEEL THAT AS TEACHERS THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED SO THANK YOU A Y'ALL ARE ON THE FIRST ONE? THIS IS A GREAT [INAUDIBLE] FOR US.

>> IT DOES FEEL LIKE A [INAUDIBLE] DON'T IT [LAUGHTER].

LIKE YOU JUST HAVE TO PART IT.

I MEAN, IT'S LIKE YOU'RE PUSHING FOR EVERY KID.

IT'S NOT EASY. IT'S NOT EASY.

THANK YOU ALL, AND THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING HER, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF YOU.

I>> WOULD LIKE TO SAY ONE MORE THING, MISS PHILLIPS.

I GOT TO MEET YOUR DAD THIS MORNING.

I HAVEN'T [INAUDIBLE].

WE BOTH HAD THE HONOR OF INTRODUCING THE NEW PRESIDENT AT WAYLAND.

HE TALKED ABOUT YOU QUITE A BIT. HE'S SO PROUD OF YOU.

I SAID I'D BE SEEING YOU TONIGHT AND I SAID, I'LL TELL HER YOU DID A GREAT JOB, AND HE SAID, DO NOT TELL HER THAT.

SHE'LL KNOW THAT YOU'RE LYING.

I HAD EMBARRASSED ANYBODY. [INAUDIBLE].

>> OKAY. THANK YOU.

>> IT WAS REALLY GOOD HONORS HE'S A GREAT GUY.THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]

>> WILL TAKE A GREAT PICTURE. THANKS YOU.

>> BYE.

[G.4. Career Learning - Human Resources Manager Certification]

>> NEXT ITEM, WE HAVE CAREER LEARNING, HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER CERTIFICATION.

>> TO WRAP UP OUR RECOGNITION.

WE HAVE ONE OF OUR OWN CENTRAL OFFICE MEMBERS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO HONOR.

WE ARE VERY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT ASHLEY FORTNER, OUR FRIENDSHIP ISC HUMAN RESOURCES COORDINATOR, RECENTLY OBTAINED THE PROFESSIONAL HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER CERTIFICATION FROM CAREER LEARNING.

ASHLEY PREVIOUSLY EARNED HER PROFESSIONAL HUMAN CAPITAL LEADER IN EDUCATION CERTIFICATION FROM THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATORS.

THAT A LOT OF WORK [LAUGHTER].

SHE'S CELEBRATING 22 YEARS IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES FIELD WITH 12 OF THOSE SERVING HERE AT FRIENDSHIP IST.

TONIGHT, RHONDA DILLARD, OUR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES IS HERE TO HELP RECOGNIZE HER.

>> WELL, IT'S MY PRIVILEGE AND MY HONOR TO TALK ABOUT, ACTUALLY.

[OVERLAPPING] I KNOW SHE DOESN'T LOOK AT THOSE, BUT SHE DOES HAVE 22 YEARS IN HR.

[00:45:02]

BOTH OF THOSE HAVE BEEN WITH ME IN HR.

IT WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST HIRES I'VE EVER MADE.

SHE IS SMART.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT CERTIFICATION SHE HAS, DEGREE, WHATEVER.

SHE IS ONE OF THE SMARTEST PEOPLE I KNOW.

IF YOU ASK HER TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING, SHE CAN FIGURE IT OUT.

SHE'S WORKING ON RIGHT NOW AND SHE WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT.

WE HAVE A NEW SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE TO SUBMIT DATA THROUGH AND YOU GIVE IT TO HER AND YOU KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE TAKEN CARE OF.

SHE'S GOING TO DO IT. SHE'S TO BE RIGHT.

>> DOES SHE COMPLAIN?

>> SHE NEVER COMPLAIN. NO. SHE'S THE KIND, I'M NOT.

[LAUGHTER] SHE'S THE KINDEST NICEST PERSON.

WHEN YOU SEE HER, YOU JUST THINK SHE IS JUST THE SWEETEST PERSON.

SOMETIMES WHEN I'M WRITING THAT CADY EMAIL, AND I JUST WANT TO SAY SOMETHING, I'LL TOP AND SAY, ASHLEY, CAN READ THIS.

WELL YOU COULD SAY [LAUGHTER].

SHE'S MY ADVISOR ON BEING NICE.

YEAH, SHE IS MY ADVISOR.

I'M HOLDING MY TONE.

>> [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER]

>> BUT SHE IS A REAL GEM FOR US, AND WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HER ON THE HR TEAM OR ANYWHERE IN THIS DISTRICT AS A FRIENDSHIP EMPLOYEE.

THANK YOU FOR BEING DEVOTED TO HR, AND THANK YOU FOR GETTING THESE CERTIFICATIONS. YOU'RE AWESOME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DO YOU LOVE TO SAY ANYTHING?

>> MY BIGGEST WEAKNESS IS PUBLIC SPEAKING, SO I DON'T DO THAT, SHE KNOWS.

[LAUGHTER] BUT I'M VERY THANKFUL FOR FRIENDSHIP AND JUST THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND LEARN STUFF.

THAT'S IT. THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE] MY EARS TURN RED WHEN I GET NERVOUS [LAUGHTER][OVERLAPPING].

>> THANK YOU.

CONGRATULATIONS. ASHLEY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> MR. MILLER BELLER, WRAP UP OUR RECOGNITION FOR TONIGHT.

>> THANK YOU, MA'AM. APPRECIATE IT.

WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD,

[2.A. Strategic Plan Update]

STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE, MR. B.PECKER.

>> THANK YOU, MR. MILLER, THANK YOU BOARD. ARE YOU GOING TO CRY? [LAUGHTER] I JUST NEED TO BE.

[OVERLAPPING] WHAT'S MY TIME? [LAUGHTER].

>> WELL, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH.. [LAUGHTER]

>> WELL, I WILL BE BRIEF.

MISS COPT ASKED ME TO MAKE THIS AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

I HAVEN'T BEEN BEFORE YOU THIS SCHOOL YEAR TO TALK ABOUT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

JUST A BRIEF OVERVIEW, THE GOALS ARE IN FRONT OF YOU THERE, DEVELOPED BY OUR COMMUNITY TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TOGETHER.

YOU CAN SEE ONE THROUGH SIX THERE, WHAT THEY COVER AND THE BROAD GOAL THAT EACH ONE OF THOSE DEVELOPED.

I WILL NOTE FOR YOU, GOAL SIX.

THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR, THIS IS THE THIRD YEAR IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PLAN, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE HAD A SPECIFIC RESULT COMING OUT OF GOAL SIX.

SO WE'RE EXCITED TO START TO TACKLE THAT ONE.

THE SPECIFIC RESULTS FOR THIS YEAR ARE LINED OUT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU CAN SEE WHO OUR TASK LEADERS ARE FOR EACH OF THOSE, AND I HAVE A SLIDE FOR EACH OF THESE, SO I'LL GIVE YOU JUST THE OVERVIEW OF WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE.

BUT IT'S AN EXCITING YEAR FOR THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS.

IT KEEPS US DRIVING SOME WORK FORWARD, AND NOW AT THIS POINT IN YEAR THREE, WE HAVE BEEN BUILDING OVER SEVERAL YEARS ON TOP OF WORK THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE.

AND SO NOW WE'RE REALLY GETTING TO SEE THE FRUITS OF SOME OF THAT AS WE BUILD IN SOME NEW PROGRAMS AND SOME EXCITING THINGS.

SO FOR 3.1, IT'S ABOUT A RECRUITMENT PLAN FOR THAT INCENTIVES FUTURE EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT.

I THINK WE THINK INCENTIVIZING AND RECRUITING FUTURE EMPLOYEES, WE THINK OF MONEY IMMEDIATELY.

TIFFANY'S TEAM IS GOING TO BE LOOKING AT MORE ABOUT MEMBERSHIPS AND OTHER BENEFITS THAT WE PROVIDE OUR EMPLOYEES.

HOW ARE WE COMMUNICATING THOSE? BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY HAVE A LOT OF THEM RIGHT NOW.

AND SO HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THAT AND THEN BUILD NEW COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS THAT WILL ENHANCE THOSE THINGS.

OF COURSE, THE OTHER THINGS ALL PART OF THE CONVERSATION AS WELL, BUT THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THAT CONVERSATION AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AND HOW IT'S COMMUNICATED.

THE NEXT ONE IS BUILDING ON THE WORK THAT CRAIG THOMPSON'S TEAM HAS DONE MORE THAN ONCE NOW AS FAR AS WORK WITH OUR COUNSELORS.

THE DATA THERE IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE DATA THEY'RE LOOKING AT THAT IS REFERRALS FROM OUR COUNSELORS TO PARTNERS IN OUR COMMUNITY TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND SERVICES.

BUT THEY'RE LOOKING ACROSS THE BOARD AND HOW WE ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AS FAR AS OUR COUNSELING DEPARTMENT TO THE BENEFIT OF OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

BUT THEN BEYOND THAT, WE ARE ABOUT TO DO A LOT OF ASKING.

AND ASKING GROUPS IN OUR COMMUNITY, WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER?

[00:50:03]

WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER TO SERVE YOUR STUDENT, TO SERVE YOU AS PARENTS, TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND TO CONNECT AND BE AS GOOD OF A PARTNER AS WE CAN BE.

THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT OUR HIGHEST NEED, MOST AT RISK STUDENTS, IT'S ABOUT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

SO HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SERVING ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN A WAY THAT THEY NEED TO BE.

SO WE HAVE FOCUS GROUPS COMING.

THAT'S THE WORK RIGHT THIS MOMENT IS BUILDING THOSE OUT AND GETTING THOSE PLANNED FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER.

SO CRAIG'S TEAM IS HARD TO WORK WITH THAT.

THE NEXT ONE IS ABOUT ON-BOARDING.

REMEMBER WE ACTUALLY HAD THIS AS ONE OF OUR SPECIFIC RESULTS LAST YEAR.

WE RENEWED IT FOR THIS YEAR BECAUSE AS THAT WORK WENT ON AND WE BUILT OUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CAME OUT OF THAT WORK LAST YEAR.

WE REALIZED IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS THAT REGISTRATION AND ONLINE VERIFICATION AND PRE K AND KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP WERE THREE PIECES THAT ARE SOME OF THE FIRST TOUCH POINTS WITH OUR CUSTOMERS.

YOU MIGHT SAY ON THEIR JOURNEY, BECOMING FAMILIES AND STUDENTS OF FRIENDSHIP.

THAT WAS A LITTLE TOO BIG TO TACKLE IN ONE YEAR AS WE WENT THROUGH THE WORK, THAT'S THE SPECIFIC FOCUS THIS YEAR.

WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS SERVING? HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THEM? ARE THE TOOLS WHAT THEY NEED TO BE? WE'VE DONE A LOT OF DIGGING.

THIS IS CASSANDRA SLAYTON'S TEAM, AND WE'VE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT SKYWARD AND THE REASONS THAT WE DO SOME THINGS THE WAY WE DO THEM, AND THERE'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS BEING ASKED, HOW WE CAN IMPROVE THEM.

THIS IS ONE THAT IF THE WORK CAN BE DONE ON AN ACCELERATED TIMELINE, THAT WE COULD POTENTIALLY LOOK AT MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS TO DOCTOR MCCORD AND IMPLEMENTING THEM THIS SCHOOL YEAR RATHER THAN WAITING ALL THE WAY TILL THAT NEXT REGISTRATION CYCLE.

THIS ONE YOU MAY SEE COMING UP A LITTLE BIT MORE QUICKLY.

>> AFTER ALL OF THIS DIGGING THAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT AND THAT ONE OF OUR FIRST TOUCHES IS ONLINE VERIFICATION.

[LAUGHTER] IT'S NOT THAT'S NOT GREAT.

THAT'S NOT A GREAT FEEL.

OR IF YOU MAYBE GO TO KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP OR PRE K ROUNDUP, WHICH A LOT OF PEOPLE THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT, THEY DON'T COME TO IT, OR IF THEY DO, THEN THAT'S A LONG TIME BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.

AND SO JUST FIGURING OUT A WAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH THAT JOURNEY CALLING IT A JOURNEY AND IDENTIFYING THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THAT JOURNEY, AND WE HAVE SOME SMART PEOPLE WORKING ON IT.

BUT RICHARD NEEDS TO WORK ON THE EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE WITH ONLINE VERIFICATION.

>> RICHARD IS ON THE TEAM.

>> RICHARD IS ON THE TEAM.

>> HE IS ON THE TEAM.

>> AND HE'S VERY IN TUNE WITH HIS FEELINGS.

[LAUGHTER].

>> NO. THE LAST OF THESE AND THIS IS FROM OUR GOAL SIX THAT I MENTIONED, THESE ARE JUST SOME PICTURES OF STUDENTS AND STAFF SERVING AT FRIENDSHIP.

LOOKING AT A DISTRICT WIDE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM THAT'S ROOTED IN THE FRIENDSHIP WAY IN THE SERVE MODEL, THE IDEA OF THIS IS NOT TO RECREATE OR REINVENT THE WHEEL AT FRIENDSHIP WHEN IT COMES TO SERVICE.

THERE IS A LOT OF SERVICE THAT HAPPENS AT OUR CAMPUSES.

THIS TEAM HAS BEEN WORKING TO CAPTURE SOME OF THAT.

EAER FLORES IS LEADING THIS TEAM.

TO CAPTURE FROM OUR CAMPUSES, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHEN ARE THOSE THINGS HAPPENING? SO WE HAVE A CLEAR PICTURE.

THE IDEA OF THIS IS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY STUDENT HAS COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES, WHETHER THEY'RE INVOLVED IN AN ORGANIZATION, OR A TEAM, OR THEY'RE NOT.

TO MAKE SURE WE'RE PROVIDING THAT YEAR BY YEAR, BUT ALSO TO NOT FORGET THE WHY.

MAKE SURE STUDENTS UNDERSTAND WHY THEY'RE SERVING, WHY THEY'RE COLLECTING THOSE DIMES OR THOSE FOOD, OR THE FOOD, OR WHATEVER IT IS.

WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF IT AND MAKING SURE THAT THAT STORY IS GETTING TO THEM, SO THEY SEE THE VALUE OF SERVICE BEYOND THE FUN PART OF IT THAT HAPPENS ON THE CAMPUS, BUT ALSO THE LIVES THAT ARE BEING CHANGED.

THAT'S THE WORK THAT WE'RE DIVING INTO, AND IT'S BEEN A BUSY FALL ALREADY AND THERE'S LOTS MORE TO DO, BUT SOME GREAT TEAMS WORKING ON IT.

WITH THAT, I'M HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS.

>> [OVERLAPPING].

>> NEXT ITEM OF BUSINESS IS TAKING A MOTION ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[3.A. Consent Agenda]

>> WHO MAKES A MOTION, I CONSENT.

>> I MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION BY MISS CHELSEA SALAZAR AND A SECOND BY MR. CARL ROGERS TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

DO WE HAVE ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ABOUT THE SAME TIME? MOTION CARRIES.

WE HAVE AN ACTION ITEM.

[3.B.1. Consider and act on an order canvassing returns and declaring the results of a special election held in the Frenship Independent School District on November 5, 2024]

CONSIDER AN ACT ON AN ORDER CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF

[00:55:05]

A SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE FRIENDSHIP INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT ON NOVEMBER 5TH, 2024, AND I BELIEVE MISS LISA LIBRA IS GOING TO DO THAT FOR US.

>> YES, SIR. IS IT OKAY IF I STAY HERE?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> THANK YOU. SO THE BOARD IS REQUIRED TO ACT ON AN ORDER THAT'S CANVASSING THE ELECTION.

IT'S JUST PART OF THE HOUSEKEEPING, AND YOU DECLARE THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION.

SO IN YOUR PACKET WERE TONS OF CERTIFIED ELECTION RESULTS FROM HOGLEY COUNTY AND LUBBOCK COUNTY.

AND SO IT'S VERIFYING THAT THE THREE MEASURES PROPOSITIONS A, B AND C ALL PASSED.

POMPE RATIFIED THE AVALORM TAX RATE HAD 14,326 VOTES IN FAVOR AND 128,956 OF THOSE AGAINST.

NO, I DON'T. I'LL GET THROUGH.

>> NOT JUST ME.

>> YES. SO IT PASSED THE 189.5 MILLION BOND AND THEN FINALLY POPSI PASSED THE 10 MILLION TECHNOLOGY.

AND SO ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU HEAR ADMINISTRATION'S RECOMMENDATION? ON BEHALF OF THE ADMINISTRATION, IT'S RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD ADOPT THE ORDER CANVASSING THE RESULTS OF THE NOVEMBER 5TH SPECIAL ELECTION.

>> WE HAVE A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE ADMINISTRATION, AND AT THIS TIME, I'LL TAKE ANY MOTIONS.

>> I MOVE TO APPROVE THE ADMINISTRATION'S RECOMMENDATION.

>> I'LL SECOND.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION BY MR. CARL ROGERS AND THE SECOND BY MRS. JAMIE PHILLIPS TO APPROVE THE ADMINISTRATION'S RECOMMENDATION.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> WHOLE SAME SIGN? MOTION CARRIED.

>> [APPLAUSE].

>> LET'S DO IT, ELECTIONS.

>> YES.

>> RODGER CAN TESTIFY OTHERWISE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> OTHER BOARD BUSINESS, EDUCATORS CERTIFICATION REPORTS. MRS. RON DILLER.

[4.A. Educators Certification Report]

>> THANK YOU, SIR. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WILL BRING YOU TO TEARS.

[LAUGHTER] TEACHERS AND EDUCATION FIELD.

IF I START CRYING ON THIS ONE, IT'S GOING TO BE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY SAD.

IN ABOUT 2018, 2019, MOST DISTRICTS ADOPTED THEIR DISTRICT OF INNOVATION PLANS TO INCLUDE CERTIFICATION.

THE REASON THAT IS BECAUSE THE COLLEGES ARE TURNING OUT VERY MUCH FEWER APPLICANTS FOR TEACHING, HARDER TO FIND TEACHERS.

IT'S A REAL STRUGGLE ACROSS THE STATE AND ACROSS THE NATION.

AND SO WE RENEWED OUR DISTRICT OF INNOVATION PLAN IN 2023, AND WE KEPT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE PEOPLE ON THE DISTRICT OF INNOVATION.

SO WE CAN BE A LITTLE MORE FLEXIBLE WITH THEIR CERTIFICATION.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IS WE TRY TO FIND PEOPLE THAT ALREADY HAVE A TEACHING DEGREE, BUT MAYBE THEY'RE FOUR THROUGH EIGHT MATH AND WE NEED THEM TO TEACH SEVEN THROUGH 12 HIGH SCHOOL.

WE TRY TO LOOK FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE CERTIFIED AND MAYBE WE'RE JUST GETTING THEM CERTIFIED IN THE APPROPRIATE AREA.

THEN OUR NEXT THING THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IS PEOPLE THAT HAVE A DEGREE AND HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THEIR OFFICER PROGRAM AND HAVE AN INTERNAL CERTIFICATE.

THAT'S OUR NEXT THING. THE TIME STOP.

AND THEN THE NEXT THING IS THAT WE LOOK FOR PEOPLE WITH DEGREES THAT ARE WORKING ALSO.

AND SO I KNOW YOU SAW THE REPORTS, IT'S IN YOUR RECORDS.

AND THIS YEAR, WE HAVE 29 TEACHERS THAT WE HIRED US IN DISTRICT OF INNOVATION, LAST 19.

SO THAT LETS YOU KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE STATE THAT WE ARE IN AS FAR AS HIRING TEACHERS.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT SOME NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS HAVE HUNDREDS OF JOBS AT ARMFIELD THAT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A TEACHER IN.

AND SO WE FEEL VERY FORTUNATE.

WE RECRUIT WELL AT FRIENDSHIP.

WORD OF MOUTH, OUR EMPLOYEES HELP US, YOU ALL HELP US.

AND SO WE'RE USUALLY ABLE TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS WITH GOOD QUALIFIED PEOPLE.

SO I FEEL CONFIDENT IN OUR ABILITY TO DO THAT.

SO ONE NUMBER THAT DID GO DOWN, LAST YEAR WE HAD FOUR CERTIFIED TEACHERS THAT JUST NEEDED TO PASS ANOTHER CONTENT AREA.

AND THIS YEAR IT WAS EIGHT.

SO WE'VE GOT MORE TEACHERS THAT ARE CERTIFIED JUST NEEDING THAT EXTRA ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION.

THE NUMBERS LOOK GOOD.

ALSO LAST YEAR, WE HAD 13 THIS YEAR, WE HAVE TEN THAT ARE FULLY CERTIFIED WITH THE INTERN CERT, AND THEN OUT OF STATE NUMBERS WENT DOWN, WHICH WAS DIFFERENT BECAUSE LAST YEAR, THE PREVIOUS YEAR WE HAD PEOPLE COMING OVER FROM NEW MEXICO,

[01:00:03]

BUT A LOT OF OUR PEOPLE ARE RETIRING AND GOING IN NEW MEXICO.

THIS REPORT IS NOT EVEN IS NOT REQUIRED ANYMORE, BUT WE FELT LIKE THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE TO LET YOU KNOW WHERE WE ARE IN OUR CERTIFICATION SO THAT WHEN YOU GET ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT IT, YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING OUT, WE ARE RECRUITING, AND WE'RE WORKING ON GETTING PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE CLASSROOMS THAT ARE GOOD FOR KIDS.

SO IT'S NO ACTION REQUIRED JUST, REPORT ONLY. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, MISS DILLARD.

>> GOOD BYE.

>> APPRECIATE IT. NEXT ITEM IS TENTATIVE AGENDAS FOR UPCOMING MEETINGS.

[4.B. Tentative Agendas for Upcoming Meetings]

WE HAVE A SCHEDULED BOARD MEETING ON DECEMBER 16TH, 2024.

AND UPCOMING EVENTS, WE HAVE RES EDUCATION FALL GRADUATION AT

[4.C. Upcoming Events]

THE HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ON DECEMBER 19TH AT SIX O'CLOCK.

IF THE BOARD MEMBERS WOULD LET MISSES LIBRA KNOW, LET'S SAY BY THE BOARD MEETING ON THE 16TH, WHETHER YOU'LL GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT THERE OR NOT.

I KNOW SHE WOULD APPRECIATE THAT.

AND I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY I KNOW WE'VE PROBABLY GOT A LOT KIDS TRAVELING THIS WEEK FOR UIL COMPETITIONS.

FRIDAY NIGHT, WE'VE GOT A BIG FOOTBALL GAME AND WE'LL HAVE A LARGE CONTENTION OF THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT HEADED TO AVELINE.

FOOTBALL TEAM, TRAINERS, THE BAND, THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

AND I JUST ASK ALL THAT ARE HERE JUST TO KEEP EVERYONE IN YOUR PRAYERS FOR A SAFE RETURN BACK HOME FROM WHEREVER THEY'RE COMING FROM.

AND WITH THAT, WE ARE ADJOURNED.
