DRAPER, AND THANK YOU TO THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR HAVING US. IT THIS SPECIAL PART OF THE NIGHT WE DEDICATE TIME TO RECOGNIZE SOME VERY SPECIAL STUDENTS. THE FIRST STUDENT I WANTED TO ASK TO JOIN ME TONIGHT IS FRENSHIP MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT, MATTHEW NOEL. SO MATTHEW IS NO STRANGER TO YOU YOU GUYS. I'M SURE Y'ALL HAVE SEEN HIM BEFORE. HE'S BEEN RECOGNIZED IN THIS SETTING BEFORE FOR SOME EXCEEDING SOME EXPECTATIONS IN VARIOUS FORMATS, AND TONIGHT WE'RE EXCITED TO RECOGNIZE MATTHEW AS HE ADVANCED TO THE NATIONAL SPELLING BEE FOR A SECOND YEAR. SO THIS WAS BACK IN MAY, MAY 29TH. HE GOT TO GO TO WASHINGTON D.C. AND PARTICIPATE IN THE SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE. HE ADVANCED TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION AFTER WINNING THE LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL'S 68TH ANNUAL REGIONAL SPELLING BEE, WHICH WAS MARCH 30TH AT THE LUBBOCK MEMORIAL CIVIC CENTER. ONCE HE WAS IN D.C. HE ADVANCED TO THE THIRD ROUND OF COMPETITION AFTER CORRECTLY SPELLING INCIDENTAL. AFTER COMPLETION OF THE THIRD ROUND, THE TOP 50 CONTESTANTS ADVANCED TO THE FINALS AND MATTHEW WAS RANKED 51ST, SO HE ONLY MISSED ADVANCING AND HE ACTUALLY SPELLED HIS WORD RIGHT, BUT BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY COMPETITION HE DID NOT ADVANCE TO THAT NEXT ROUND, BUT WAS ONLY ONE PLACE SHY OF DOING THAT. SO IT'S OUR HONOR TONIGHT, MATTHEW, TO RECOGNIZE YOU FOR YOUR ACHIEVEMENT IN GOING INTO THAT NATIONAL SPELLING BEE TWICE IN A ROW. SO LET'S HEAR IT FOR MATTHEW. [APPLAUSE]. THANK YOU SCHOOL BOARD FOR YOUR RECOGNIZING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. WE'RE JUST SUPER PROUD OF HAYLEIGH. AS MS. SOLIS MENTIONED, SHE DID COMPETE THIS LAST SUMMER AT TEXAS STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE COMPETITION IN AUSTIN, TEXAS. SEVERAL WEEKS

LATER WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT SHE'D BEEN NAMED OUTSTANDING PERFORMER FOR HER PERFORMANCE OF "VOI, CHE SAPETE" AN ITALIAN ARIA FROM THE OPERA, LE NOZZE DI FIGARO BY MOZART. IN THE MUSIC REALM THIS HONOR IS CONSIDERED TO BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS WINNING A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. ONLY TWO TO THREE PERCENT OF OVER 100,000 PLUS STUDENTS COMPETING AT THE REGION LEVELS, AND OVER TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND COMPETING AT THE STATE LEVEL RECEIVE THIS DISTINGUISHED AWARD. HAYLEIGH IS A SENIOR, WHICH IS SAD FOR US, [LAUGHTER] BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE WHAT SHE'S GOING TO DO IN THE FUTURE.

SHE IS CONTINUING HER SECOND YEAR AS OUR SOPRANO SECTION LEADER AND VARSITY CHORALE.

SHE IS ALSO AN OFFICER AT CHOIR COUNCIL, A MEMBER OF NHS, AND SHE PLANS TO PURSUE A DEGREE IN MUSIC EDUCATION. WE ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU FOR YOUR PHENOMENAL WORK AND ARE EXCITED TO SEE THE AMAZING THINGS YOU WILL DO IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS AS A CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATOR. [APPLAUSE].

RECOGNIZE THESE STUDENTS. THESE YOUNG PEOPLE TOOK AP EXAMS, ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS, IN MAY. ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS ALLOW THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE THEY'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL. THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT TYPE OF AWARD SCHOLARS. THERE'S AN AP SCHOLAR. THOSE STUDENTS SCORED A 3 OR BETTER, AND A 3 WILL GET YOU COLLEGE CREDIT, SO YOU CAN SCORE BETWEEN A 1 AND A 5. 3 OR HIGHER GETS YOU COLLEGE CREDIT. AP SCHOLARS HAD A 3 OR BETTER ON THREE OR MORE EXAMS, AND THEN WE HAD SOME AP SCHOLARS WITH HONORS. THEY HAD A 3.25 AVERAGE ON ALL EXAMS TAKEN AND THEY HAD SCORES OF THREE OR HIGHER ON FOUR OR MORE EXAMS. I KNOW IT'S LOTS OF NUMBERS., AND THEN OUR AP WITH DISTINCTION THOSE STUDENTS HAD A 3.5 AVERAGE ON ALL EXAMS TAKEN AND SCORES OF A 3.5 OR HIGHER ON FIVE OR MORE EXAMS. SO THESE ARE VERY SMART PEOPLE, WE'RE VERY BLESSED TO HAVE THEM WITH FRENSHIP. I'M GONNA START WITH DEVIN SCHLEGEL. HE IS A GRADUATE. HE IS AT TECH RIGHT NOW AND HE CAME BACK TO RECEIVE HIS AWARD. HE IS ONE OF TWENTY EIGHT STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED IN 2019, SO HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT CAME BACK.

I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE OPPORTUNITY TO TELL YOU ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP & INNOVATION, AND OF COURSE THERE'S A MYRIAD OF THINGS THAT KIND OF FALL UNDER WHAT I DO THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, AND A LOT OF TIMES YOU SEE THE BEGINNING OF THOSE, YOU SEE THE GRANTS, THE CHECK PRESENTATIONS, SOME OF THOSE THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY, BUT I WANTED TO SHOW YOU KIND OF THE OTHER SIDE OF SOME OF THAT THIS EVENING. ONE OF THOSE WAS OUR TIGER GARDENERS PROGRAM. YOU REMEMBER WE BROUGHT A TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THE MONSANTO FUND, NOW THE BEAR FUND. WITH SARAH BURLESON'S HELP, SCIENCE COORDINATOR, WE BUILT OUT A PROGRAM IN ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES THAT ALLOWED OUR SECOND GRADERS TO EXPERIENCE AGRICULTURE JUST IN A HANDS ON AND MEANINGFUL WAY. AND AS WE WROTE THAT GRANT WE REALLY WANTED THEM TO START TO UNDERSTAND BETTER WHERE AGRICULTURAL FITS IN THEIR LIVES, WHERE THEIR FOOD COMES FROM, THAT WAS A BIG GOAL OF THE PROGRAM. WE SAW GREAT GAINS IN THAT FROM OUR PRE- AND POST-TESTING. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE GARDENS. FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL'S CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS BUILT THESE FOR US. THERE'S TWO AT EVERY ELEMENTARY. EVERY ELEMENTARY SECOND GRADER, EVERYONE IS USING THESE IN SOME WAY. SCIENCE INSTRUCTION, MATH INSTRUCTION, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND READING. THE PVC YOU SEE OVER THIS ONE WAS ACTUALLY BUILT BY OUR ENGINEERING STUDENTS AT FHS. THEY HELPED US WITH KIND OF THE GREENHOUSE COVERS FOR THE WINTERTIME. WE LEARNED SOME LESSONS ABOUT WIND WITH THAT AND THE PLASTIC ON THERE, BUT WE'RE READY TO GO FOR NEXT YEAR. AND THE NEAT THING IS YOU GET A TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT. NOW WE HAVE A PROGRAM THAT WILL CONTINUE ITSELF. WE BOUGHT A CURRICULUM THROUGH JUNIOR MASTER GARDENER THROUGH THE TEXAS AGRILIFE WXTENSION THAT WE'LL CONTINUE TO USE AND WE DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE AGAIN THIS YEAR, HAVE THE MATERIALS ALREADY.

SARAH WILL CONTINUE SUPPORTING THOSE TEACHERS AND WE DO PROVIDE A STIPEND TO A LEAD TEACHER IN EACH OF THOSE SECOND GRADE TEAMS TO HELP COORDINATE THE GARDENS AND MAKE SURE THEY'RE WORKING. AND THIS PICTURE I INCLUDED. IT'S NOT THE MOST EXCITING PICTURE TO LOOK AT, BUT WE ALSO PRE- AND POST- TESTED HOW MANY VEGETABLES STUDENTS HAD TRIED. SO A SECOND GRADER EATING VEGETABLES, LOTS OF LOW NUMBERS BEFOREHAND, BUT A LOT OF THEM ACTUALLY TRIED THE FOOD THEY ATE AND LIKED IT AND THERE WERE SOME VEGETABLES ON THERE THAT WE DIDN'T GROW LIKE TOMATOES, AND THOSE NUMBERS WENT UP TOO. SO THEY GOT A COMFORT LEVEL WITH EATING SOME HEALTHIER FOODS THAT MAYBE THEY DIDN'T HAVE BEFORE. SO THAT WAS A NEAT THING TO SEE. AND HERE AT THE END OF THE PHOTOS THIS LITTLE GUY WE FOUND OUT OVER THE SUMMER HE HAD TAKEN SOME OF THE PLANTS THAT THEY HAD PLANTED IN HIS CLASS, HE TRANSPLANTED THEM HOME AND HIS MOM WAS EXCITED TO SEND PICTURES BACK TO HIS TEACHER THAT HE HAD PLANTED AND GROWN HIS OWN THINGS OVER THE SUMMER AND BECOME HIS OWN LITTLE GARDENER. SO SHE WAS EXCITED

SAYING YOU KNOW THESE IMPACTFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCES, THIS HANDS ON TOOL OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM, JUST OUT IN THE YARD, OUT IN THE GRASS AT THESE CAMPUSES, KIDDOS ARE GETTING TO DO SOMETHING NEAT AND EXCITING AND THEY'RE BUYING INTO IT AND THEN TAKING IT WITH THEM AND ACCOMPLISHING A LOT OF THE GOALS THAT JUST A BASIC GRANT DID FOR US. SO THAT'S BEEN A REALLY NEAT PROGRAM THAT WE'VE SEEN. THE EDUCATIONAL GAINS AND OF COURSE THE ROOTS OF FRENSHIP LAYING IN AGRICULTURE, THAT'S HOW WE WROTE THE GRANT WANTING TO CONTINUE THAT. I THINK THAT WAS SUCCESSFUL. AS YOU KNOW I VOLUNTEER A LOT IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND I RUN SOME PROGRAMS FOR THE DISTRICT. AS PART OF THAT VOLUNTEERING COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS WOULD BE AN EXAMPLE OF THAT, BUT I ALSO AM THE CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR FOR FRENSHIP FOR LUBBOCK AREA UNITED WAY. OF COURSE MCCORD SIT ON THE BOARD, AND AS A CO-FOUNDER OF WOMEN UNITED, BUT I'M ALSO A TEAM LEADER FOR LUBBOCK AREA UNITED WAY SO I'M ON THEIR CAMPAIGN CABINETS SO KIND OF DUAL ROLES FOR THEM. AND I WANTED TO SHOW YOU, THIS WAS FROM MY PRESENTATION THIS YEAR. OVER THE YEARS THIS IS THE DOLLARS IN AGGREGATE THAT FRENSHIP ISD EMPLOYEES HAVE GIVEN AND PLEDGED TO LUBBOCK AREA UNITED WAY. THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT WE HAD NORMALLY SHARED OUT. IT'S NOT A CONTEST. IT'S JUST A POSITIVE THING TO DO, BUT WE SAW A BIG DIP IN 2017 AND WE WERE DISAPPOINTED TO SEE THAT AND WE SAT DOWN, DR. MCCORD AND I AND ANDY AND THE UNITED WAY FOLKS AND TALKED ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED? WE KNOW HARVEY WENT ON THEN, YOU KNOW, WHAT WERE THE REASONS? SO WE REVAMPED SOME THINGS, AND LAST YEAR I BEGAN AND CONTINUED THIS YEAR. I PRESENT TO EVERY CAMPUS IN PERSON, JUST ME, TALKING TO THEM FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF FRENSHIP AND WHAT OUR CULTURE IS ABOUT. WE TELL THEM THE STORY OF THE UNITED WAY OF HOW THE ORGANIZATION IMPACTS OUR KIDS AND OUR FAMILIES. LAST YEAR I TALKED TO THEM ABOUT COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS. WE HAD DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF CAMPUSES FROM THREE TO SIX THAT WERE SERVED BY COMMITTEES IN SCHOOLS. THIS YEAR WE'VE ADDED TWO MORE. FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL HAS BEEN ADDED AND THE NINTH GRADE CENTER. AND FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL WAS ADDED AT NO COST TO THE DISTRICT FOR THIS YEAR THROUGH A GRANT TO COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS. SO THINGS LIKE THE UNITED WAY ALLOW THOSE THINGS TO HAPPEN. SO I FEEL LIKE IT WAS PRETTY SUCCESSFUL. LAST YEAR WE SAW RECORD GIVING FROM THE FRENSHIP EMPLOYEES TO UNITED WAY, JUST KIND OF SEEING THE IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY, SHOWING THEM HOW MANY FOLKS ARE GETTING SERVED WITHIN THE ZIP CODES IN FRENSHIP. AND THIS YEAR, STILL UNDER WAY, HAVE THOSE FORMS IN MY OFFICE AND KC WILL HAVE THEIR MEETING IN OCTOBER AND WE'LL LOOK AT IT AGAIN. BUT NOT SOMETHING WE TALK ABOUT A LOT IN A DER BEING INVOLVED WITH THIS, BUT COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THAT WE SEE THAT IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF OUR KIDS AND OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STAFF. AND SO VERY VALUABLE PARTNER OF COURSE. JUST NEXT WEEK WE'LL HAVE EVERY ONE OF OUR OUR SECOND GRADE CLASSROOMS WILL HAVE SOMEBODY READING IN THEM FOR UNITED WE READ. THAT'S A VERY VISIBLE THING AROUND THE COUNTY THAT THEY DO, BUT WE WORK WITH UNITED WAY ALL YEAR LONG ON LITERACY AND REALLY BUILDING SOME MOMENTUM IN OUR COMMUNITY TO MEET A LOT OF GOALS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO EDUCATION. SO AS FAR AS THE VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF WHAT I'M DOING, AND THAT'S JUST A SNAPSHOT OF A COUPLE OF THINGS, BUT AT THE TOP OF THAT LIST WE ARE ACTIVELY REVIEWING AND LOOKING AT A PROGRAM THAT COULD PROVIDE A REALLY INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM WITHIN FRENSHIP HIGH SCHOOL. WE'RE WORKING ON A SITE VISIT FOR THAT RIGHT NOW. MR. HERNANDEZ AND HIS TEAM ARE GOING TO GO. I HAVE A PRIVATE GIFT TO THE DISTRICT. WE CAN BUILD KIND OF A PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP, IF IT'S THE RIGHT PROGRAM, THEN WE'LL WORK ON THAT THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THIS YEAR. BOARD BUSINESS. WE HAVE A REPORT ON PURCHASING COOPERATIVE FEES PAID BY FRENSHIP ISD AND FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR, TIM WILLIAMS. I KNOW Y'ALL HAVE BEEN WAITING A WHOLE YEAR FOR THIS REPORT, SO IT'S TIME AGAIN. WE KEEP REQUESTING IT EVERY YEAR. I KNOW. [LAUGHTER]. EDUCATION CODE SECTION 44.0331 IS THE LAW THAT GOVERNS THIS AREA. LEGISLATURE A FEW YEARS AGO DECIDED IT'D BE SOMETHING [INAUDIBLE] TO DO WHEN WE WERE INVOLVED WITH PURCHASING CO-OPS TO HAVE A LIST OF THOSE CO-OPS AND WHAT KIND OF FEES THAT THEY NEEDED. WE ARE CHARGED ON A YEARLY BASIS TO USE THOSE CO-OPS. OBVIOUSLY WE USE THEM QUITE OFTEN. WE DO A LOT OF OUR PURCHASING THROUGH THESE CO-OPS. WE WILL EVEN GO INTO A SORT OF CO-OP AND QUOTE WITHIN THAT COUPLE OF DIFFERENT VENDORS THAT ARE THERE TO TRY TO GET THE BEST PRICES FOR OUR DISTRICT, BUT WHAT YOU SE THERE IS A LISTING OF ALL OF THE VENDORS, ALL THE CO-OPS THAT WE USE, AND THEN IF THERE IS A FEE, AND YOU CAN SEE THOSE THERE. EVENING BOARD. IN ACCORDANCE WITH BGA LOCAL WE'RE SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE BOARD INFORMED ON SIGNIFICANT ISSUES. JUST WANNA RUNDOWN A QUICK ENROLLMENT UPDATES FOR THE BOARD. TODAY WE HAVE TEN THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY SEVEN STUDENTS ENROLLED IN FRENSHIP. THAT IS A RECORD ENROLLMENT. ENROLLMENT CONTINUES TO RISE EVERY DAY. LAST YEAR WE HAD NINE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY ONE ON DAY 19, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE ON TODAY. THAT IS A 2.93 PERCENT INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR. THIS COMBINED, I'M SORRY, THE 9TH GRADE CENTER HAD 751. THE HIGH SHCOOL HAS NINETEEN EIGHTY SEVEN. COMBINED THAT'S TWENTY SEVEN THIRTY EIGHT. THAT'S FORTY MORE THAN THEY HAD LAST YEAR. WE'RE SERVING 56 STUDENTS AT REESE FOR A TOTAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL OF TWO THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED NINETY FOUR. SOME OF THE TRENDS WE'VE NOTICED IS WE HAVE TWO CLASSES WITH ABOUT 800 STUDENTS. IT'S OUR SIXTH GRADE AND SEVENTH GRADE, WHICH IS WHAT WE ANTICIPATED OFF OF LAST YEAR'S NUMBERS. THE SIXTH GRADE HAS EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN. OUR SEVENTH GRADE HAS EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TWO. SO OUR SIXTH GRADE AGAIN THIS YEAR IS OUR BIGGEST CLASS. ALL OF OUR K THROUGH 5 ELEMENTARY CLASSES HAVE AN ENROLLMENT OF MORE THAN SEVEN HUNDRED STUDENTS, K THROUGH 5. AND ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT IS FOUR THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY. OUR TOTAL MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENT HAS INCREASED AS WELL FROM A TWO THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO TO TWENTY FIVE FORTY FOUR TODAY. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 24 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN OUR KINDERGARTEN DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM AND 25 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN OUR FOURTH GRADE DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT WILLOW BEND. BECAUSE THESE ARE HARD TO FILL POSITIONS BECAUSE OF THE DUAL LANGUAGE WE'VE ADDED A TEACHING AIDE IN BOTH OF THOSE CLASSES TO ASSIST THE TEACHERS IN THAT AREA. DUE TO BECOMING A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION, FRENSHIP IS EXEMPT FROM FILLING THE CLASS SIZE WAIVERS THAT WE'VE HAD TO DO IN THE PAST IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS EDUCATION CODE 25.112. ANY QUESTIONS?
