THEY EVEN LOOKED AT OUR WEBSITE TRAFFIC TO OUR COUNSELING PAGES TO SEE HOW AND WHEN PARENTS ARE ACCESSING RESOURCES. OBVIOUS THING TO WONDER, WHAT IS THAT BIG SPIKE RIGHT THERE? THERE WERE SOME BOMB THREATS AROUND THAT TIME, DO YOU RECALL? BUT PARENTS WERE COMING TO LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE TO LOOK FOR RESOURCES INFORMATION, WHICH IS A GOOD THING FOR US TO SEE AND KNOW AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THE THINGS THERE ARE WHAT THEY NEED. WE HAD SOME STUDENT FOCUS GROUPS. THIS IS A GROUP OF EIGHTH GRADER OR EXCUSE ME MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. THIS IS A HIGH SCHOOL GROUP. WE HAD A COUPLE OF PARENT FOCUS GROUPS AS WELL, ONE AT LUNCH AND ONE AFTER SCHOOL AND WE JUST SAW A LOT OF GREAT AND THOUGHTFUL FEEDBACK ABOUT WHAT COUNSELING DOES, WHAT IT SHOULD BE FROM STUDENTS AND PARENTS THAT RECEIVE A LOT OF SERVICES, AND THOSE THAT RECEIVE LESS. BUT THE COUNSELORS ARE THERE TO SERVE EVERY STUDENT HOW THEY NEED IT AND SO THAT'S WHAT WE WERE WORKING TOWARDS WHAT THAT PARTNERSHIP COULD BE. WE CAME WITH THREE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS ONE. BOTH OF OUR PARENT GROUPS ENDED WITH PARENTS SAYING, WHAT'S NEXT? HOW ELSE CAN I HELP? WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? HOW CAN I CONTINUE TO BE INVOLVED? ARE YOU GOING TO FOLLOW UP AND LET US KNOW WHAT CAME OF THIS? ADVISORY COUNCILS WILL BE STARTING AT EACH OF OUR CAMPUSES. THIS IS A BEST PRACTICE IN SCHOOL COUNSELING ANYWAY. IT'S JUST A HUGE BENEFIT FOR THE COUNSELOR AND HOW THEY CAN COMMUNICATE WITH OUR FAMILIES. THE LAST THING, WE'LL KEEP THOSE FOCUS GROUPS GOING. THEY WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL. I THOUGHT THEY WENT GREAT. WE LOOKED AT SOME THINGS THAT ARE ALSO SUCCESSFUL RED RIBBON WEEK IS SOMETHING WE HAVE SOME WEEKLY, WE HAVE DAILY ACTIVITIES. IT'S A VERY SPECIFIC MESSAGE THAT EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS THAT WHEN WE HAVE RED RIBBON WEEK. THERE'S A RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK THAT WE LEARNED A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT AND THEN CRAIG'S WORK PRIOR WITH COUNSELING, WE HAVE MONTHLY THEMES AND MENTAL HEALTH MINUTES. AS WE LOOK THROUGH ALL OF THOSE, WE FOUND SOME GOOD CONNECTIONS. UNVEILING FOR YOU TONIGHT, OUT OF OUR SERVE MODEL, WE ARE LAUNCHING PAUSE FOR A CAUSE. PAUSE FOR A CAUSE. THAT CLASS TALKS THROUGH DIFFERENT OPTIONS OF WHAT I CAN GO DO. ARE WE GOING TO SEND CARDS TO THE TROOPS? DOES ONE OF OUR CLASSMATES PARENTS OWN A RESTAURANT THAT WE CAN WALK TO FROM THE CAMPUS? COULD WE DO A KINDNESS WALL? MAYBE WE FINALLY VOTE AND SAY, WE'RE GOING TO MAKE OUR OWN CARDS, AND WE'RE GOING TO WALK THEM TO THE FIRE STATION NEXT DOOR AND THANK THEM FOR WHAT THEY DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY. BUT THEN WE CAME BACK TOGETHER AND IT'S WHAT YOU SAID EARLIER ABOUT STAFF, ABOUT SUPPORTING CAMPUSES AND THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING WITH OUR STUDENTS. THE SECOND TIME TOGETHER, THAT'S WHAT CASEY AS A BUILDING TALKED ABOUT, AND WE WORKED ON WAYS TO BETTER SERVE OUR CAMPUSES TO THINK ABOUT, HEY, WHAT'S BROKEN, WHAT'S NOT WORKING THE RIGHT WAY, AND HOW CAN WE FIX IT WITH OUR CAMPUSES IN MIND? NOT BY THEY BEING EASIER, BUT THEIRS. EACH DEPARTMENT CREATED GOALS, AND THEN EACH EMPLOYEE CREATED AN INDIVIDUAL GOAL AS WELL THAT THEY CAN WORK ON JUST TO IMPROVE SOME OF THOSE THINGS AS WELL. THEN WE WENT TO CAMPUS ADMIN AND DID A SIMILAR PROCESS, BUT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. WE LOOKED AT WE EVEN WENT AT THE DR. MCCORD ASKED JOE TO GO DIG IN IN THERE IN AN EMAIL AND JUST SEE, HOW MUCH ARE WE EMAILING A PRINCIPAL?
