ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE OPPORTUNITY TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT WE'VE DONE THIS YEAR IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION.

SO I REALLY THIS DISTRICT EFFECTIVENESS REPORT, I'M FOCUSING IN ON WHAT'S REALLY A CELEBRATION, THE CULMINATION OF SEVERAL YEARS OF WORK.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, MY JOB AND MY ROLE HAVE CONTINUED TO EVOLVE SINCE COMING TO FRENSHIP IN 2015. BUT THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN A LONG TERM PROJECT, A LONG TERM GOAL FOR THE PROGRAM. AND I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

EXCITED TO SHARE IT WITH YOU.

INCUBATOREDU IS A PROGRAM THAT I SAW AT A CONFERENCE IN TWENTY SIXTEEN.

IT WAS BORN OUT OF A HIGH SCHOOL IN CHICAGO, AND THAT SUPERINTENDENT THEN MOVED TO TEXAS AND BROUGHT IT WITH HIM TO EANES ISD AND WEST LAKE HIGH SCHOOL.

AND IT HAS SINCE FLOURISHED ACROSS THE STATE AND AROUND THE COUNTRY.

IT'S A REALLY INTERESTING AND NEAT PROGRAM, GIVING STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL AND MOVE TOWARDS GETTING INVESTMENT TOWARDS THE END OF THAT YEAR AND THEN TO CONTINUE THEIR BUSINESS IF THEY SO CHOOSE AND MOVE ON WITH IT.

BUT TO HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO LEARN ABOUT THAT, A SAFE PLACE TO FAIL AND WORK THROUGH THE PROCESS. THIS PROGRAM JUST BEGAN HERE IN THE FALL AND I'LL SHOW YOU OUR PROGRAM IN PARTICULAR. BUT I WANTED TO GIVE YOU JUST A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO IT.

SO SOMETHING THAT'S GREAT WITH THE CLASS AND REALLY FITS WITH WHAT I'VE BROUGHT TO THE DISTRICT AND WHAT I WAS BROUGHT HERE TO DO, IT'S REALLY BUILT ON COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS.

IT'S BUILT ON PARTNERSHIPS.

AND SO IT'S DRIVEN BY MENTORS AND BY COACHES THAT COME IN.

THE TEACHER IS REALLY JUST A FACILITATOR OF THE CLASS.

AND IT'S THE INDUSTRY EXPERTS THAT COME IN AND REALLY HELP DRIVE THE CONTENT AND EXPERIENCE. IT ALSO GET STUDENTS OUT TO DO MARKET RESEARCH, TO UNDERSTAND WHO THEY'RE SELLING TO AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

AND SO IT'S REALLY A NEAT EXPERIENCE.

AND I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT COACH SMITH DOES WITH IT THIS YEAR.

VERY EXCITED THAT IT'S KICKED OFF.

BACK IN THE SPRING, WE CELEBRATED THE PRIVATE GIFT FROM GEORGIA, LINDA MACMAHAN, THAT WE APPLIED TOWARDS THIS PROGRAM AND ALSO THE FUNDING THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THE LUBBOCK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCE.

THAT WAS TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

THAT REALLY ALLOWED US TO COVER ALL YEAR ONE CURRICULUM AND STARTUP EXPENSES FOR THE COURSE, LEAVING THAT PRIVATE GIFT TO USE ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE BUILD OUT OF THE ROOM. WE COMPLETED THAT BUILD OUT HERE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER.

AND AS YOU CAN SEE, WE REALLY HAD THE COLLABORATIVE EFFECT IN MIND.

SO AND I COULD NAME 40 PEOPLE THAT REALLY MADE THIS POSSIBLE.

EVERY DEPARTMENT REALLY COLLABORATED TO DO IT.

BUT YOU CAN SEE CARPET IN THERE.

WE REALLY WANTED STUDENTS TO WALK OUT OF SCHOOL AND INTO WORK, SO TO SPEAK.

WE ALSO WANTED TO KEEP THE ROOM A LITTLE MORE QUIET BECAUSE WE EXPECT THERE'LL BE A LOT OF DISTANCE COMMUNICATION GOING ON.

YOU CAN SEE THE COLLABORATION STATIONS DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE ROOM, THOSE FIFTY FIVE INCH SCREENS OR TOUCH SCREENS, ALL COMPUTERS, THEY ALL HAVE WEBCAMS AND DISTANCE CAPABILITY.

ALSO, WE BOUGHT A CLASSROOM SET OF 15 LAPTOPS THAT ANY STUDENT OR USER CAN SHARE THEIR SCREEN UP TO ANY SCREEN IN THE ROOM.

AND SO REALLY COLLABORATIVE AND INTERACTIVE IN THAT WAY.

THIS IS A GROUP BASED CLASSROOM.

WE ALSO YOU SEE THE STAFF SEATING HERE AT THE FRONT.

AT THE FRONT OF THE ROOM, THERE'S AN EIGHTY SIX INCH TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTER.

ALSO, COACH SMITH USE THAT AS A MAIN TEACHING STATION.

HE ALSO HAS A GLASS BOARD THERE TO WORK FROM.

AND YOU NOTICE THE COUNTERTOPS ON THE SIDES ON THE BACK OF THOSE COUCHES.

WE WANT MENTORS TO COME IN, TO HEAR PITCHES, TO SEE STUDENTS PITCH.

WE WANT THE CLASS TO BE ABLE TO GATHER IN SOFT SEATING AROUND THAT TEACHING AREA OR FROM THEIR TABLES AS WELL.

THE BACK TWO TABLES ARE A LITTLE BIT TALLER SO THEY CAN SEE OVER.

GWEN HUGHES IN OUR BUSINESS OFFICE WAS INVALUABLE IN THIS PROCESS AND HELPING US CHOOSE THE FINISHES AND FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ROOM WOULD LOOK LIKE.

WE'VE REALLY BUILT, IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE BEST INCUBATOR LABS WITHIN THIS SYSTEM OF CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE ORGANIZATION.

I'M REALLY PROUD OF WHAT IT IS.

WE ALSO SEE THOSE LITTLE SOFT THOSE ROLLING POOFS THAT ARE BEHIND THE COUCH IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM. THOSE ARE ALSO UNDER EVERY GLASS BOARD.

THEY CAN BE ROLLED AROUND AND USED JUST AS MOVABLE SOFT SEATING AND ALSO MS. [INAUDIBLE] FROM EMILY [INAUDIBLE] TEAM DID THAT WRAP ON THE BACK WALL.

I THOUGHT SHE DID A GREAT JOB INCORPORATING THAT FRENSHIP FEELING.

AND ALSO, AS YOU KIND OF RUN THROUGH THAT PROCESS THAT SHE'S PRESENTED THERE, YOU CAN REALLY SEE THAT KIND OF ENTREPRENEURIAL PROCESS GO ON AND MOVE TOWARD SUCCESS.

IN THE BACK RIGHT CORNER OF THE ROOM, THERE IS A CONFERENCE TABLE AND THAT CONFERENCE TABLE ALSO HAS ITS OWN TELEVISION OR COMPUTER STATION ON THE WALL.

WE'VE SINCE ADDED SOME MOVABLE PARTITIONS AROUND THIS SPACE TO GIVE A LITTLE MORE PRIVATE SPACE TO DO DISTANCE MEETINGS WITH INDUSTRY EXPERTS.

WE INTEND OVER TIME AS WE CONTINUE TO BUILD THAT BASELINE OF SUPPORT, TO HAVE FOLKS FROM HOPEFULLY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THAT CAN INTERACT WITH OUR STUDENTS AND BRING THAT INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE.

BACK TO THAT IDEA OF LEAVING SCHOOL.

COMING INTO WORK, WE PUT HOOKS BY THE DOORS FOR BACKPACKS TO KEEP THE CLUTTER DOWN.

THIS IS ALSO A CLASS THAT WOULD HAVE DAILY VISITORS EVERY TIME THEY'RE IN SESSION, THEIR MENTORS AND COACHES AND SPEAKERS COMING IN TO BE A PART OF THE COURSE.

AND THIS IS COACH SMITH'S LITTLE WORKSTATION.

AS I SAID, THE TEACHER IS A FACILITATOR.

THE LARGE PORTION OF THAT DESK BREAKS OFF.

IT'S HELD TOGETHER BY MAGNETS AND HE CAN ROLL THAT AROUND WITH HIS LAPTOP AND PRESENT TO EACH INDIVIDUAL SCREEN USING THAT TECHNOLOGY OR FROM THE FRONT OF THE ROOM IF HE WANTS TO AS WELL. SO VERY PROUD OF THE SPACE, VERY PROUD OF THE WORK, THE FRENSHIP FOLKS PUT IN.

AND MS. [INAUDIBLE] ALSO HAD HELPED US WITH THESE QUOTES.

AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT GEORGE, IMMEDIATELY HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME, HONESTLY, I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT THAT WE HAD TO HAVE SPENT TWO AND A HALF OR THREE TIMES WHAT HE DONATED TO THE DISTRICT, AND I THINK THAT'S A REAL TESTAMENT TO ALL THE FOLKS AROUND FRENSHIP THAT WERE ABLE TO PULL TOGETHER AND DO THINGS LIKE THIS.

OF COURSE, TECHNOLOGY, JOE BARNETT'S TEAM WAS INCREDIBLE, BRINGING ALL THAT TECHNOLOGY TOGETHER AND MAKING SURE IT WAS ALL WORKING AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.

AND IT'S JUST REALLY BEEN AN IMPRESSIVE AND GREAT PROCESS.

AND I'M EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THOSE STUDENTS ARE GOING TO DO.

OF COURSE, IT WOULDN'T BE A [INAUDIBLE] WITHOUT VISION FOR THE FUTURE.

AND TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT'S COMING.

THAT PROGRAM IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE BUILDING THAT BASE OF SUPPORT, TO GET THE COMMUNITY BASE BUILT ALSO TO TO MARKET IT INTERNALLY TO OUR STUDENTS, TO SHOW THEM WHAT IT IS. WE'LL HAVE SOME OTHER CLASSES COMING THROUGH AND KIND OF USING THAT ROOM AS GUESTS SO THEY CAN SEE WHAT A NEAT SPACE IT IS.

AND ALSO SHOWCASING WHAT THAT CLASS IS DOING TO THE CAMPUS WILL BE IMPORTANT TO BUILD FUTURE INTEREST FROM OUR STUDENTS.

IN LINE WITH OUR YEAR FOUR OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN IMPLEMENTATION, BE WORKING TO BUILD A YOUNG ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM AND REALLY FOCUS ON GETTING THOSE NEW GRADUATES, WHETHER THEY'RE IN COLLEGE, IN INDUSTRY, IN THE MILITARY, GETTING THEM ONTO CAMPUS, OR AT LEAST VIRTUALLY CONNECTING WITH OUR STUDENTS AND SHARING PERSPECTIVE WITH THEM.

AND THEN PARTNERSHIPS WILL CONTINUE AND COMMUNITY PARTNER PROGRAMS WILL CONTINUE.

BUT REALLY, THERE'S KIND OF GOING TO BE A FOCUS, A RENEWED FOCUS ON LOOKING FOR SOME STRATEGIC PROGRAM GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES AND LOOKING FOR PARTNERS THAT ARE LOOKING FOR A LONG TERM CONNECTION AND WAYS TO BUILD THAT TOGETHER.

JUST IN COMPLIANCE WITH BGA LOCAL AND IN KEEPING THE BOARD INFORMED, FRENSHIP HAS AN

ENROLLMENT OF TEN THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY STUDENTS.

COMPARED TO LAST YEAR, WE HAD TEN THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY SIX ON THIS DAY.

SOME OF THE CHALLENGES WE'VE COME ACROSS THIS YEAR, WE'RE CONTACTING STUDENTS WHO AND GETTING THEM ENROLLED, PARENTS WHO FELT THEY ENROLLED.

BUT THEY JUST DID THE ONLINE ENROLLMENT BUT THOUGHT THEY SIGNED UP FOR THE VIRTUAL AND THEN JUST BASICALLY FINDING THE STUDENTS AND GETTING THEM BACK IN SCHOOL.

SINCE WE WERE OUT SINCE MARCH.

TODAY, THE 9TH GRADE CENTER HAS AN ENROLLMENT OF SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SEVEN.

COMBINED WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT OF TWO THOUSAND AND THIRTY EIGHT.

WE'RE CURRENTLY SERVING TWO THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE STUDENTS AT THESE TWO CAMPUSES. THERE'S ANOTHER NINETY ONE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT REESE.

SO THAT'S THE NUMBERS FOR HIGH SCHOOL OF TWO THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY.

OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS HAVE INCREASED FROM TWENTY FIVE FORTY TO TWENTY FIVE SIXTY NINE FROM LAST YEAR. THIS YEAR, ALL THREE MIDDLE SCHOOLS HAVE OVER EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTY STUDENTS IN EACH CLASS.

SEVENTH GRADE HAS NINE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN AND THE EIGHTH GRADE HAS EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY THREE. ALL OF OUR K THROUGH FIVE FIFTH GRADE ELEMENTARY CLASSES HAVE AN ENROLLMENT OF MORE THAN SEVEN HUNDRED.

THE TOTAL ENROLLMENT IN ELEMENTARY IS FOUR THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED EIGHTY SEVEN.

OUR LARGEST CLASS IS THE SEVENTH GRADE CLASS WITH NINE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN STUDENTS.

OUR SMALLEST CLASS WOULD BE THE SENIOR CLASS WITH SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE STUDENTS.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR TEACHERS TEACHING VIRTUALLY.

IN ELEMENTARY WE HAVE THIRTY THREE TEACHERS THAT ARE DESIGNATED AS FULL TIME VIRTUAL TEACHERS. AND IN SECONDARY THERE ARE ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN CONDUCTING AT LEAST ONE SECTION OF VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION.

THAT IS THE ENROLLMENT UPDATE.

THERE'S NO ACTION THAT'S NEEDED ON THIS.

JUST A REPORT TO THE BOARD.

WHAT IS THE BREAKDOWN BETWEEN OUR VIRTUAL AND OUR IN PERSON? WE HAVE EIGHT THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWELVE IN PERSON AND SIXTEEN HUNDRED AND FORTY IN VIRTUAL. AND HAVE WE HAD MUCH MOVEMENT BACK AND FORTH? THERE'S BEEN MOVEMENT. WELL, THERE'S PROBABLY BEEN MOVEMENT ON A DAILY BASIS, BUT WITH THE END OF THE SIX WEEKS COMING UP, THAT'S PROBABLY GOING TO CHANGE TO WHERE IT'S THE STUDENTS WILL BE ON ONE TRACK OR THE OTHER.

THAT'S THE OPEN PERIOD WHERE THEY CAN MAKE THEIR DECISIONS TO MAKE THE CHANGE? CORRECT.

[INAUDIBLE] STUDENTS AND GET THE ONES ENROLLED WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE? THE PRINCIPALS ARE MAKING CALLS DAILY ON WHAT WE CALL OUR NO SHOWS.

AND THESE WOULD BE STUDENTS THAT WOULD END UP SHOWING AS DROPOUTS.

AND THE LIST ON THAT IS CONTINUING TO SHRINK ON A DAILY BASIS BECAUSE THE PRINCIPALS ARE MAKING THOSE CALLS OR HAVING FOLKS MAKE THOSE CALLS.

I DON'T HAVE THAT NUMBER RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.

BUT I WOULD SAY JUST KIND OF ADD TO THAT, GREG, IS THAT I LOOKED AT THAT LIST OF THE NO SHOWS. OH, GOSH, IT'S PROBABLY BEEN TWO WEEKS AGO.

AND MOST OF THOSE CHILDREN THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THEY WERE AND THEY WERE KIND OF THERE WAS JUST CONFUSION ABOUT THEY THOUGHT, WELL, I SIGNED UP FOR FRENSHIP ONLINE.

THEY THOUGHT THEY SIGNED UP FOR VIRTUAL AND THEY DIDN'T.

SO WE FOUND MOST OF THOSE.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE FINDING, THOUGH, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A TREND ACROSS THE STATE, IS THAT KINDERGARTEN CLASSES ARE SMALL THIS YEAR ACROSS THE STATE, EVEN IN THE, AS A FAST GROWTH DISTRICT.

OTHER FAST GROWTH DISTRICTS ARE SEEING THE SAME THINGS, ALSO PRE-K.

AND SO WE'VE SEEN GROWTH IN OUR UPPER GRADE LEVELS.

BUT IT'S THOSE LITTLES, THE PRE-K, KINDER AND TO SOME DEGREE FIRST GRADE.

AND JUST AS A REMINDER, I SOMETIMES FORGET THIS MYSELF, THAT YOU'RE NOT REQUIRED BY LAW TO ATTEND SCHOOL UNTIL THE FIRST GRADE.

SO, OF COURSE, PRE-K IS VOLUNTARY, BUT SO IS KINDERGARTEN.

WE'RE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE IT, BUT PARENTS AREN'T REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN IT.

NORMALLY IT'S TWENTY TWO STUDENTS IN THAT CLASS.

THERE'S TWENTY FOUR IN THAT CLASS.

AS STUDENTS MOVED FROM VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION, THERE MAY BE MOMENTS WHEN WE'RE OVER IN A CLASS SIZE.

HOWEVER, WE'RE GOING TO WORK TO MINIMIZE THOSE OCCURRENCES WHEN THE STUDENTS ENROLL IN A FACE TO FACE SITUATION.

AND DUE TO BECOMING A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION, FRENSHIP IS EXEMPT FROM FILING A CLASS SIZE WAIVER IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS EDUCATION CODE TWENTY FIVE POINT ONE ONE TWO.
